According to an anonymous source who spoke to Punch, Frederick had gone to demand the N2,000 owed him by Oruma. The victim had accosted Oruma in the Oza area of the state and seized one of his properties for failing to pay his debts.
An argument was said to have ensued between them which degenerated into a fight.

Oruma then picked up a bottle, broke it and used it to stab the victim, a native of Ebonyi state, who is an ice cream factory worker in Benin, in the neck.

Frederick lost consciousness after losing so much blood. He was rushed to a private hospital on a wheelbarrow after several cab drivers declined to take him.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command, Noble Uwoh, said the argument was between two friends, adding that the suspect had been arrested.
