Thank God For Buhari Govt, Security Is Better In Nigeria – Adesina

The special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina has declared that the current administration has made remarkable progress in fighting insecurity in Nigeria.

According to the presidential media aide, a lot of challenges still remain but for those who think and see objectively, things are a lot better, he observed.

Mr. Adesina made the observation on Thursday during an appearance on a Channels TV interview programme where he submitted that Nigerians should be thankful to God for what the Buhari administration has done so far.

“As challenging as security is, even now, we are still not where we were.”

“You would look at some areas of security, if you are true and dispassionate and you will have cause to thank God that things are better in this area,” he said.

Comparing the current government with past administrations, Mr. Adesina said many things have improved and there is hope that pending issues will also be sorted out.

“There are some areas of security where things are a lot better than they used to be. There are still some challenging areas but there is assurance that those areas will be sorted out within the lifespan of this administration,” the media aide said.

Amnesty International Has No Right To Exist In Nigeria – Presidency

The Nigerian Presidency has declared that Amnesty International, a non-governmental organization that fights human rights abuses, has no legal right to exist in the country.

In a statement issued by Garba Shehu, media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidency criticized Amnesty International over its ‘support’ for pro-secession groups like IPOB.

The statement read, “Amnesty International’s latest salvo at Nigeria is but more of the same.

“Again, they have decided to side with terrorists, before the liberty of those they injure, displace, and murder.

“Speaking the language of universal human rights, Amnesty International deploys it only in defense – even outright promotion – of those that violently oppose the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“Parroting the line of Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB, a proscribed terror organization, they work to legitimize its cause to Western audiences. This puts them in bad company. Controversial American lobbyists are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to do the same, laundering IPOB’s reputation in Washington DC.

“IPOB murder Nigerian citizens. They kill police officers and military personnel and set government property on fire. Now, they have amassed a substantial stockpile of weapons and bombs across the country.

“Were this group in a western country, you would not expect to hear Amnesty’s full-throated defense of their actions. Instead, there would be silence or mealy-mouthed justification of western governments’ action to check the spread of 'terrorism'.

“Despite Amnesty’s self-proclaimed mandate to impartially transcend borders, unfortunately in Nigeria, they play only domestic politics. The international NGO is being used as cover for the organization’s local leaders to pursue their self-interests. Regrettably, this is not uncommon in Africa. There is nothing wrong with an activist stance; there are claims of neutrality when all facts point to the opposite.

“Amnesty International has no legal right to exist in Nigeria. It must open a formal investigation into the personnel that occupies their Nigerian offices. They should reject the outrageously tendentious misinformation they receive and bring some semblance of due diligence to the sources they base their claims on. Currently, we see none.

“The Nigerian government will fight terrorism with all the means at its disposal. We will ignore Amnesty’s rantings. Especially when it comes from an organization that does not hold itself to the same standards it demands of others.”

India Arrests Two Nigerians Among Notorious Four-man Drug Cartel

The Narcotic Control Bureau on Tuesday has arrested four persons in which two are Nigerians in connection with a case registered against alleged drug peddler Ajay Singh alias Mamu and actor Armaan Kohli.

Following the questioning of the two accused, a follow-up operation was launched by the NCB at various places in Mumbai, and the agency seized a total of 118 gram mephedrone and 13 grams of cocaine and arrested four persons, including two Nigerians, making a total number arrested to be six.

According to GhanaWeb, an official said that as part of the follow-up operation, the NCB seized mephedrone and intercepted Mohammed Ajaz Sayyed alias Chiya Bhai from Juhu Gal after his name cropped up in the investigation.

Based on the initial interrogation of Chiya Bhai, one Imran Ansari was caught for his alleged role in dealing drugs from Sayyed on Monday. The names of two Nigerian nationals came to the fore in their questioning.

Accordingly, a team of officers intercepted one Nigerian, Uba Chinoso Wizdom, with a commercial quantity of mephedrone at Nalasopara late Monday night. He was allegedly the main supplier of mephedrone in this case.

The NCB intercepted the other Nigerian, Nwachiyaso Israel Nwachukwu alias Sam, with a commercial quantity of mephedrone and intermediate quantity of cocaine early Tuesday at Aarey Milk Colony, Mumbai.

“During the operation, he attacked the NCB team and one officer was injured. He was rushed to the nearest government hospital. Nwachukwu has been residing in Mumbai for five years and running the African drug cartel. He was the main trafficker of this international link as the cocaine seized has South American origin,” an official said.

The official noted that with this action they have busted a major drug network supplying cocaine to the high-end party circuits in the city.

Another African drug cartel member was apprehended with the seizure of intermediate quantities of mephedrone and ecstasy. The Nigerian national, identified as Sunday Okeki alias Sunny, was arrested from Nalasopara on Tuesday.

“The intercepted person works as a bouncer/bodyguard and is an actor by profession,” the official added. An official said that he worked in fight scenes with top Bollywood actors.

FG says it’s disbursed N56bn to over 1m Nigerians as Covid-19 survival fund

Nigeria’s federal government says it has disbursed N56.8 billion to over 1 million persons and businesses under the survival fund scheme.

Minister of state, industry, trade and investment and chairperson of the survival fund steering committee, Maryam Katagum, who made the disclosure at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja, explained that the scheme targeted 100,000 beneficiaries, but that as at the time the portal closed, only 65,976 applications were received, of which 50,032 scaled the pre-qualification test and were shortlisted.

She also flagged off the guaranteed offtake scheme which according to her, is the last track of the government’s micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) survival fund scheme.

The initiative is a component of the Nigeria economic sustainability plan (NESP) which was developed by a committee headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

“To date, we have successfully disbursed the sum of N56,842,780,000.00 to 1,079,323 including those registered under CAC,” she said.

“The federal government is set to roll out the last component of the survival fund known as the guaranteed off-take scheme (GOS).”

According to the minister, Covid-19 pandemic caused a drop in demand for corporate and household products and commodities.

She noted that the commencement was delayed due to issues from other programmes such as failed payments, balancing value and ensuring equity among states.

On the issue of verification and pre-qualification, the minister said the beneficiaries must be Nigerians with valid BVN and have a staff strength of not less than three.

The minister said the survival fund had also made great progress in other schemes that had been implemented.
