How to prepare Nigerian Afang Soup
The Nigerian Afang Soup, like the Edikang Ikong soup,
is native to the Efiks, people of Akwa Ibom and Cross River states of Nigeria
but enjoyed by all Nigerians. It is also very nutritious as the soup consists
mainly of vegetables. Afang Soup is prepared with a generous quantity of Water
leaves and the wild herbal Okazi leaves.
The Nigerian Afang Soup should not
be confused with the Okazi Soup native to the people of Imo and Abia States of
Nigeria. While Afang soup is prepared with basically vegetables, Okazi Soup is
simply the Nigerian Egusi Soup
cooked with thinly sliced Okazi leaves.
Ingredients
for Afang Soup
- 400g sliced Okazi/Afang leaves | about 4 handfuls
- 250g Water leaves
- 20 - 25 cl Palm oil (about 1 drinking glass)
- Beef, Kanda and Dry fish
- 2 tablespoons Crayfish
- Pepper, Salt and Crayfish - to taste
- 2 Knorr cubes
Notes
about the ingredients
- Great alternative to water leaves is Lamb's Lettuce, known as Canonigos in Spanish.
- Yes, you need that much palm oil. :)
Before
you cook the Nigerian Afang Soup
- Wash, drain and slice the water leaves into tiny pieces. Grind or pound the sliced Okazi leaves. In Nigerian markets, the sellers of these sliced Okazi leaves have a machine for grinding it. You can also grind it with your blender with a small quantity of water. Take a look at the ground Okazi leaves.
- Grind your pepper and crayfish and cut the onions into tiny pieces.
Cooking
Directions
- Boil the beef and Kanda with the diced onions and stock cubes in a very small quantity of water. When done, add the dry fish and cook for about 5 more minutes.
- Now add the palm oil, crayfish and pepper. Once it starts boiling, add the afang (okazi) leaves, water leaves and periwinkle. When the okazi leaves have softened and the water has dried up a bit, add salt to taste and leave to simmer for about 5 minutes. The Afang soup is ready!
- Serve with Garri (Eba), Semolina, Amala or Pounded Yam.

Courtney Stodden: Bigger Breast Implants In New Instagram Photos?
Courtney Stodden on Instagram. This girl loves taking photos of herself.
Courtney has denied plastic surgery rumors in the past, so clearly anything she says on the topic is total BS.
Fortunately, Stodden's Instagram selfies give us all the information we need about her constantly changing body.
Last, month we realized that Courtney's lip injections were threatening to take over her face, now it seems like she attempted to subtly upgrade from double to triple-D's without anyone noticing.
Courtney was reportedly quiet on social media for over a week recently, prompting rumors that she'd undergone some sort of elective surgery.
When she returned, obsessive Courtney fans (because those exist, apparently) claimed that her breasts looked slightly larger.
Frankly, we can't tell, but if she did bump up a size, the difference is ever so subtle.
Would anyone be dumb enough to shell out thousands and undergo surgery just to make their breasts imperceptibly larger? Come on...this is Courtney Stodden we're talking about.
Check out the gallery of Courtney's recent boobtastic selfies above to try and decide for yourself.
Courtney shows off her new lips. Can she even talk with those things? Let's hope not.

There is No Document That I Was Deported…..Apostle Helen Ukpabio
Nigeria’s most successful female preachers, Lady Apostle Helen Ukpabio,
has described the tale making the rounds that she was recently deported
from the United Kingdom, as untrue and unfounded.
According to the film maker and the founder of Liberty Gospel Foundation Church, she said that the viral information were not true as it was the handwork of atheists.
“I was never deported from the U.K. I went to London (South East, London specifically) for a programme, did my programme and came back when I wanted. I traveled on April 4 and I returned on April 17th, to do a programme for Bishop N.E Moses of Overcomers Church, in Lagos. Nobody deported me.”
She noted that if she were to be deported, the U.K. Immigration would have moved her and handed her over to the Nigerian Immigration and it would have been documented.

“I don’t have a child but I’ll do this for my dog, what more a child? Most women and mothers don’t know the power they have. You know, there’s always one good person amongst the bad guys who might be watching, touched by his mother’s love and release the girls. I don’t know what they have done or haven’t done, but I believe you start doing the work and expect help ‘smh’.
“So far the government hasn't done much and has lied about rescuing the girls before, so don’t expect much. After all, there is no politician child involved, so don’t expect them to worry about you. I hear they want to hold a protest ‘smh’, I have seen all types of protest in Nigeria that never led to anything. So can this women save the energy and time and figure out a plan or start recording some sad crying videos begging boko haram, because I don’t know, it is just killing me”
The entrepreneur and singer further went on her twitter page to inquire from UNICEF’s ( The United Nations Children’s Fund), formerly ‘The United Nations Children Emergency Fund’ about their silence on the matter stating, “Dear @ UNICEF, why am I not seeing anything from you guys about the 200 missing girls in Nigeria? Children’s rights, survival and Protection?”
However, information has it that American troops are already in Chibok, Borno State to assist with efforts to bring back the girls.

Senator Obasanjo also blasted the sect for abducting 230 school girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State saying that lack of female companion is no excuse for the abduction and also betraying the true essence of revolutionaries in directing their venom against the lower class.
She also noted her suprise that less groups like Boko Haram has not formed in the nation given the poverty and unemployment level.
Letter below:
Dear Boko Haram,
“The fact that you have taken arms against the Nigerian state is no surprise. The question should be why haven’t more young people organised themselves against the state? “Even the fact that your motto, ‘Against Western Education’ is in a way reasonable given the fact that your leader, martyred by the Nigerian state had university education and found no reasonable employment but had to resort to thuggery for politicians to survive, as the story goes. “He, like millions of Nigerian young people and college graduates, seeing a blighted future are doing anything to survive.
“They have become opportunistic desperados, almost sub‑human as the stepping on and trampling on each other to death at the Immigration employment debacle indicates.
‘Where you’re wrong’
“Where I think you have gotten it wrong are in two areas, if you can pardon my giving you some unsolicited advice. “First, your victims are becoming more and more the people you should be attracting to your side. Take the Nyanya bus massacre.
“The people that live in Nyanya are usually the clerks, messengers and other lowly office workers that live out in relative slums compared to the rest of Abuja and take public transportation to work to receive monthly salaries they barely get by on.
“Consult any written work of successful revolutionaries be it French, Russian, Cuban or even the more recent uprooting of communism in Eastern Europe, to succeed you need the people to be on your side. Right now you are not achieving this. “You are targeting the group you need most.
This does not make for a successful revolution but you are making yourselves into nuisances to the people and in the end while the state, including its military machine may not be able to conquer you, your downfall will be alienating these potential allies, i.e. the oppressed and down-trodden.
“Secondly, the abduction of girls. It must be hard to stay in the bush as all male revolutionaries fending for yourselves with no sexual gratification.
Cuban example
“But again, reading up on past bush revolutionaries like the Cuban, for example, indicates that they were able to convince some women to go voluntarily with them into the bush. “Somehow, revolutionary zeal does not include sexual abstinence and cooking and cleaning by yourselves.
“Reading must be hard for you since you hate education but the past is a good guide to the future and if you can’t read, you are done for in organizing or succeeding in most endeavours as most things have been done before and reading up on how it was done can only serve as good guidance.
“The parents of the girls you abducted are just trying to give their daughters a chance at having successful lives. Without an education there is very little anyone can achieve in this early 21st century.
“I know living in the bush; it must still seem like the dark ages but the truth is that even with the lack of jobs and opportunities for young people in Nigeria currently, it is still better to be educated.
“An educated university graduate who was selling food from a food cart ignited the Arab Spring which was spread by use of the internet which is hard to use if you are not educated. “There are writings, videos and stuff you post on the internet which I haven’t seen. But think of it, you can only post and use the internet because some of you have some education.
“But in the end you have no control over the distribution of your advertising and recruiting information because as you may know, the internet is really part of the western system you despise.
Why you’re succeeding
“The truth is that you have succeeded because the Nigerian state has failed to provide jobs and opportunity for its young people who you can now easily recruit. By disrupting education, you are adding to the burden of the people.
“You may say, but how about our religious issue? Let the truth be told, just as there are indigenous southern Muslims, there are indigenous northern Christians even from your epicenter in Borno State and just as you are zealous for your religion, I don’t see them giving up their religion either.
“The reasonable solution to this impasse would be for you to advocate for everyone to be able to practice their religion as they see fit with respect for each other’s beliefs. “Remember, a couple of centuries ago, all of our ancestors below the Sahara were all animists worshiping various ‘gods.’
“This ‘One God’ — us against them situation — is a relatively recent one in our human history and you will be advised to let the originators fight it out and let your people be.” (Naij)

#BringBackOurGirls – Actress Chika Ike: “My Heart is Broken"
Nollywood actress Chika Ike sent a press release on the trending topic.
Read it below; The Time to act is now.
My heart is broken, our daughters have been taken away from us. 234 has become a memorable number but not for a good cause. It’s been 2weeks and all we hear is that our daughters have been abducted, I can’t even imagine my innocence at that age.
I can’t imagine the pains and agony their parents are going through now, their sleepless nights, their tears, etc. It could have happened to anyone, this could have been your daughter, sister, niece, god daughter, neighbours’ daughter or your student.
All they wanted was to go to school and read, what crime did they commit to deserve this wicked and inhumane treatment. We are not going to relent in prayers.
We are tired of all this!!!!
The Time To Act is Now.
