“Nigerians don’t want 24-hour light, they can’t even afford it” — Activist Deji Adeyanju says

Nigerian activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has stirred reactions online after sharing his views on electricity expectations in the country.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, he argued that many Nigerians are not even asking for round-the-clock power because of the cost.

“Nigerians don’t want 24-hour light, they can’t even afford it” Adeyanju said

According to him, what most people want is simple—electricity at key times, especially at night and early morning. He explained that Nigerians would rather have light when they get home to sleep comfortably and early in the morning to prepare for the day.

He added that power supply can then be focused on factories and businesses during the day.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected spy and neutralised two terrorists in separate operations in Borno State, as part of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East theatre.

The troops of 198 Special Forces Battalion apprehended a suspected spy on 25 April 2026 at about 21:40 hours while conducting surveillance operations along a parapet area within their operational environment.

The suspect was reportedly observed through while conducting reconnaissance on troop dispositions before attempting to conceal himself in nearby shrubs.

The sources stated that troops on standing patrol swiftly moved in and arrested the suspect, who could not provide any identification details and declined to give information during preliminary questioning.

He is currently in custody for further interrogation to determine his motive and possible links to hostile elements operating in the area.

In a separate development within the same theatre, troops also repelled an attempted infiltration by terrorists around Buratai District in Biu Local Government Area.

The encounter, which occurred late on 25 April 2026, resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists, with troops recovering a motorcycle and a cache of ammunition after the attackers were forced to withdraw in disarray.

Military authorities noted that the general security situation remains fluid but under close monitoring, while reaffirming that troops’ morale and operational effectiveness remain high as counter-terrorism operations continue across the region.

Later that day, Ademola was found unresponsive at his workplace by a colleague who arrived for a night shift.

Odutola wrote, “On 18th April, 2026, Ademola, 37 years old, left home in the morning hale and hearty, with no signs of illness. He was in contact with his wife during the day, and they even shared a WhatsApp message at 2:08 pm—everything seemed normal.

“Tragically and without warning, Ademola passed away suddenly while at work. Later in the day, a colleague arriving for their shift at night in the service user’s house found him seated on a sofa, unresponsive.”

Odutola said emergency services were immediately contacted. Tragically, he was confirmed de@d at the scene.

A government that can’t protect lives has no right to exist – Obasanjo reacts to heightened insecurity in Nigeria

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commented on the heightened insecurity in Nigeria.

In an interview with News Central, Obasanjo said any government that cannot protect lives and property of its citizens does not have the right to exist.

He said: “Let me tell you, the government that cannot give security of life and property of its citizen has no right of existence.

“The elected members of our National Assembly have no right to fix their own salary and their own emolument.

“It’s not in our constitution for them to do that. It’s the revenue mobilization and allocation commission that should do it.”
