MTN Project Fame West Africa is here again; bigger, better and more exciting. Yes indeed, West Africa’s biggest music talent hunt competition is its 8th season and you have a chance to be one of the contestant as the Live auditions is coming to a location near you.

This Saturday, June 20, the Bolingo Hotel, Abuja and Vointel Hotel, Port Harcourt will play host to the wannabe music stars as they slug it out for the right to perform in Project Fame.

So are you ready to live the dream? Are you ready to perform in Africa's biggest music talent reality TV show? Come display your singing talents at the auditions in Abuja and Port Harcourt.

Here are the easy steps to be a part of the auditions. All you need to do is to dial 5900 on your MTN line, listen to the voice prompt, follow the instruction and you will be given a unique PIN number. You can also record your songs and submit it via the Interactive Voice recording Platform.

The overall winner in MTN Project will walk away with a brand new SUV, a recording contract worth millions of Naira and N5million in cash while the 1st Runner up will get a saloon car and N3million in cash. The 2nd runner up will not go home empty handed as he will drive away a brand new saloon car along with N1million while the 3rd runner up is made a Millionaire

After Abuja, the MTN train will move to Ibadan and Accra, Ghana on 27th July while Lagos will be the next location for contestants on 3rd and 4th of July.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki Visits Obasanjo in Abeokuta

Senate President, Bukola Saraki paid a visit to Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo at his Hiltop villa in Abeokuta today, June 19, 2015.

A source who was part of the meeting informed PREMIUM TIMES that the Senate President was in Abeokuta to beg Mr. Obasanjo to reconcile him with President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mr. Saraki emerged as the president of the Senate against the decision of APC leaders. He was also elected when most Senators from the APC were at the International Conference Centre waiting to hold a meeting with Mr. Buhari to discuss the election of the Senate president and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

It was also gathered that Mr. Saraki lamented that although the party leaders have stated that they have accepted his emergence, there was “complete communication breakdown between him, the president and the party”.

The national chairman of the APC, John Oyegun, had abruptly cancelled a scheduled meeting with Mr. Saraki last week without giving another appointment.
Likewise, we also gathered that Mr. Saraki had tried severally to meet with Mr. Buhari after his emergence, but was always denied audience.

Another source in the presidency informed us that the President was angry with Mr. Saraki and the management of the national assembly for going ahead with their election despite adequate knowledge of an invitation for a meeting with Mr. Saraki and his colleagues.

“The president considered it as a mark of disrespect for his office for Saraki to ignore an invitation to meet with him and his colleagues,” our source said.
In his response, Mr. Obasanjo promised to do his best to “ensure communication between all parties”.
However, the spokesperson for the president, Garba Shehu, said the Senate president did not seek to meet with Mr. Buhari.

“I am not aware of any request for a meeting, the president would have seen him, he represents a key institution in our democracy,” he said.
Calls to Mr. Saraki and his aide, Bamikole Omishore, were not answered.
However, the former president in his usual self also joked with the delegation, saying “ you children of nowadays only run to elders when you have finished making the damage”.

PREMIUM TIMES also learnt that after he was informed of the visit, Mr. Obasanjo called Mr. Buhari to inform him that Mr. Saraki is leading a delegation of Senators to his Abeokuta home and Mr. Buhari simply said “you have to see them now, are they not your boys?”.

Among Mr. Saraki’s delegation include former governor of Gombe state, Danjuma Goje, Andy Uba, former Zamfara governor, Ahmed Sani, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and others.

Nigeria’s Four Refineries to Start Production Next Month- NNPC

Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC spokesperson, Mr Ohi Alegbe told AFP that Nigeria’s four refineries, two in Port Harcourt, one in Kaduna and the other one in Warri will resume production next month.

According to Ohi, “The refineries at Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna will resume next month after a successful turn-around-maintenance (overhaul) of their facilities. The turn-around-maintenance has been on for some time. We did not just want to make any noise about it. The refineries will start production as soon as they have delivery of crude oil for refining.”

How Fraudster Posing To Be Bank Staff Duped a Girl Of N14,000 Inside GTBank in Lagos

 A fraudster on Wednesday reportedly duped a young lady of N14,000 at the Guaranty Trust Bank, Allen Avenue branch, Ikeja, in Lagos.

According to reports, the young lady, who identified herself with one name, Ruqayat, was seen crying inside the banking hall and attracted attention from officials and customers. According to Rukayat, a man dressed in a corporate outfit approached her while on a queue, along other depositors.

He claimed to be an official of the bank and demanded if I had a bank verification number, to which I answered no. He collected the money for ease of the transaction and gave me a verification form to fill”, Rukayat explained.

While she moved away to fill the form, Rukayat said, the man went to the counter and was seen talking to a teller. By the time Rukayat was done, the pretending bank official had gone. Rukayat, who works with an IPhone 6 retail shop at Balogun street, also in Ikeja, burst into tears. 

  “The money belongs to my boss. I have just been employed two weeks ago and I don’t know where to get a refund for her,” she said sobbingly.

Many bank customers were in disbelief about Rukayat’s story, while a bank security guard reportedly ordered her out of the hall. Rukayat said.

Outside the banking hall, few Bureau de Change operators sympathized with Rukayat. A middle aged Hausa-speaking man, Ibrahim Hamisu told Nigeria Newsbreak a similar incident had happened previously in the bank and the fraudster arrested. The previous fraudster, Hamisu said, acted as though he were a bank official and elected to help two girls who had come to open accounts with the task. ‘

He (fraudster) collected two laptops from the two girls and gave them forms to fill. They were able to discover who he was through the CCTV, when the ladies raised an alarm.

The bank was thoroughly searched, but the fraudster had fled by then,” Hamisu said.

Shocking: This Woman Kills Her Husband So She Can be Sleeping With His Brother

Thirty-two-year-old Sphiwe Moyo of Zvishavane and her lover, Witness Maphosa killed Knowledge. The two appeared in court on June 8, 2015, charged with murder.

Witness admitted to committing the chilling crime while his sister-in-law-cum-lover denies involvement.

Court records show that Maphosa — a gold panner — was once married to another woman whom he left before settling down with Moyo. Witness lived at the same homestead and over time became “more and more comfortable” around his brother’s wife.

And so began their adulterous affair whose passionate flickers grew into tongues of fire, consuming relationships and friendships. On June 2, 2015, the lovers allegedly stitched together a plan to murder Maphosa. Though the motive is unstated, it appears they wanted to continue their affair freely.

Moyo — it is alleged — paid Witness US$10 to carry out the hit, promising a further US$40 once the job was done. They went over the plan on June 3 while Maphosa slept in his hut.

Time was up: The target was to slip into much deeper slumber, never to awake. The two, the court heard, entered the hut and Witness got hold of an axe with which he struck Maphosa three times on the head, opening his skull.

Afterwards, they placed a rock over his head and covered the body with clothes. Moyo then sprinkled mealie-meal over the blood, locked the door from outside and disappeared into the night.

The next morning, relatives became curious when they noticed how the door had been locked.

They barged into the hut, and to their horror found Maphosa’s motionless form. As investigators camped the hut, the obvious question kept coming back: Where was Maphosa’s wife? Moyo was arrested in Mberengwa after swift detective work. She implicated Witness, who was subsequently arrested on June 6, Kuzeyanyaya News  Zimbabwe reports.

Man Rapes Mum To Death (Photo)

A son raped and murdered his own mother during a chilling torture session in her bedroom, a court has heard.

Alexander McDonald was previously described as ‘laid-back and gentle’ but jurors were told he killed his mother by stabbing and strangling her after getting into a state of "sexual excitement”.

Restaurant worker McDonald, 27, denies murdering his 57-year-old mother Catherine but admits manslaughter.

Exeter Crown Court heard he got drunk during a wine tasting session at work and then snorted cocaine before returning to his mother's home in Norton Fitzwarren near Taunton, Somerset, late one night last September.

The jury heard he exchanged some sexualised texts during the small hours of the morning and prosecutor Simon Laws QC said only child McDonald was "in a state of sexual excitement".

Mr Laws said the victim, who worked as a carer for elderly people, wore ear plugs in bed to help her sleep but she was still wearing them when her body was found.

He said: "The evidence suggests she was attacked while she was in bed asleep.

"It was a surprise attack.

"She stood no chance against her 27 year old son who is well over six feet tall.

"He used at least three and in all probability four weapons against her.

"Catherine McDonald died as a result of being stabbed and strangled."

He said a kitchen knife was found in a bathroom sink which had been used to stab her twice in the chest which 'had penetrated right through her body'.

He also strangled her with an electric power cable which was still wrapped about her neck like ligature when she was discovered.

Mr Laws said there were also non fatal wounds.

He told the court McDonald had used knitting needles to stab her in the neck and one was still in place, and a pathologist said she was still alive when this happened.

There were scratches and bruises on her face, body, arms, legs and neck as she struggled for survival in the attack.

Mr Laws said on her neck there were also small cuts which had been caused by a pair of nail scissors used to poke and prod her neck.

He told the jury McDonald used the scissors to "force her to submit to a sexual assault' and Mr Laws said he raped her.

A condom was found and DNA was discovered on the victim.

He said afterwards he fetched a knife from the kitchen to stab his mother and strangle her with the cable.

The court was told McDonald tried briefly to clear up the scene before he fled in his mother's Smart car taking his passport and emptying her purse.

But he later crashed the car, flipping it over near Tiverton, Devon, and he was later arrested by police who then went on to discover his mother had been murdered.

At one point he texted an ex girlfriend to say that he would either be dead soon or in jail.

Mr Laws said: "He knew perfectly well what he had done."

He said virtually nothing in police interviews and officers said he appeared 'quite nonchalant'.

Other people said he was 'laid back and gentle'.

When he was told about the rape of his mother, he said that was 'a bit of a shock to him'.

Mr Laws said McDonald had admitted manslaughter but the prosecution say this was murder and say being drunk or drugged does not hide the intent to kill or cause really serious harm.

"He was acting in a purposeful and deliberate manner.

"He has no one else to blame for the state he was in."

McDonald denies murder and his trial continues.

Pakistan Tribal Court Fines a 10 Year Old Boy $7,000 for Having Affair with a Married Woman

A tribal court in southern Pakistan has convicted a 10-year-old boy of having an affair with a married woman in her late 30s and ordered him to pay a fine of $7,000, police said on Tuesday.

 
The incident occurred Monday in the remote village of Bakhrani in Sindh province, 510 kilometres (320 miles) north of Karachi.

“The 10-year-old was caught having an extramarital affair with a lady from another tribe, which created bad blood between the two tribes,” a local police official requesting anonymity told AFP.

“The incident was later taken to a jirga (tribal court) which ordered the boy’s family to pay a fine of Rs700,000 ($7,000) to the aggrieved side.

“The boy’s family paid Rs50,000 ($500) up front and undertook to pay off the remaining amount within three months,” he added.

The chief police officer of the district, Umar Tufail, confirmed the incident but said the tribal court’s decision was illegal and was under investigation.

“It has came to our knowledge that a jirga was held to solve a dispute regarding an extramarital affair. We are looking into the incident as jirgas are illegal,” he told AFP.

Under Pakistan’s penal code, an adult male having sex with a female child is considered to have committed statutory rape, but a woman having sex with a boy does not come under the law.

The woman could however be prosecuted for sexual assault or unnatural sexual acts, lawyer Sundas Hoorain told AFP. Adultery is also a crime but rarely prosecuted, he said.

Jirgas typically take the form of a council of male elders assigned to resolve disputes.

They have repeatedly come in for criticism for issuing controversial decisions, including forcibly marrying off young girls to end family feuds.

In July 2013 Pakistan’s Supreme Court declared the jirgas illegal and asked provincial authorities to clamp down on them.

But they persist in rural areas as a dispute settlement mechanism for people without the means to use regular courts.

Outrageous: National Assembly Members Gets N8.64Billion Wardrobe Allowance

According to ThisDay, the just inaugurated members of the National Assembly are to receive N8.64 billion as Wardrobe allowance next week.

Each of the 360 house members to get N17.5 million each from the N8.64billion and N21.5 million for each of the 109 senators. This is asides the other allowances they are entitled to which includes furniture, housing and vehicle.

Though the allowance for wardrobe and clothing is to cover the entire four-year tenure that they will be in office, their housing allowances are to be paid on a yearly basis. Based on the approval of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), the housing allowance for political office holders is usually 200 per cent of their annual salaries, the furniture allowance is 300 per cent of annual salaries, while a motor vehicle loan is pegged at 400 per cent of their annual salaries.

Going by this policy, each of the 107 senators besides the Senate President and his deputy, will be paid N4,052,800 as housing allowance. This will be paid to them every year, translating to N433,649,600 as housing allowance to be paid to the Senate annually, while the Senate President and the Deputy Senate President will be provided accommodation by the federal government.

On the other hand, each member of the House of Representatives will be paid N3,970,425 as housing allowance. This implies that the each of the 358 House of representatives members aside the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, will collect a total of N1,421,412,150 as housing allowance.

Like that of the Senate, the speaker and deputy speaker will be given accommodation by the federal government. Following the monetisation of entitlements of public officials undertaken by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, the lawmakers lost the right to occupy houses built and maintained by the government. Hence, the federal government sold the houses previously occupied by the lawmakers to them.

Since the principal officers of the Sixth National Assembly benefited from the sale of the houses, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is currently building new ones for the four presiding officers of both chambers. On the furniture allowance, each of the senators will be paid N6,079,200 while the furniture for both the Senate president and his deputy will be provided by the government. The total sum to be paid to the 107 senators as furniture allowance will be N650,474,400.

In the House of Representatives, each member will be paid N5,955,637.50 as furniture allowance. This means that the 358 members will collect a total of N2,132,118,225 for furniture.

On the vehicle loan, each of the senators is entitled to N8,105,600, while each House member is entitled to N7,940,850.50, meaning that the 107 senators will collectively take N867,299,200 as vehicle loans while the 358 House members will get N2,842,824,479 for their vehicles.

According to source who lives where the incident happened, a guy went to his friend's place with his girl friend last two saturday, a few hours later, the girl ran out screaming rape. And a few minutes later, the guy ran out too screaming help help help. The girl had blood on her clothes and partially naked, she was given a cloth to cover herself. It was when the guy came out in his own pool of blood that everyone knew what happened.

The guy was taken to the hospital but when they got to the hospital they realized that the other part was no longer there. They had to come back home to for the remaining part, but alas, it's dead.

We learnt that the mutilated body has been stitched and the victim is still in the hospital.

Two armed robbers, who have been terrorising Nkpor and its environs in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have been set ablaze by an irate mob at the new motor tyre market, Nkpor.  

Nemesis caught up with two robbers when they attempted to snatch an undisclosed sum of money from a trader, who came to procure goods at the market. The two robbers, who operated on motor bike, allegedly stopped the trader along Onitsha/Enugu Expressway, and ordered him to hand over the money in his possession at gunpoint.  A source said as the suspect was about to resist the order, they shot at him thrice, but the bullets did not penetrate his body. The eyewitness said, sensing danger, the robbers were about to flee when the trader brought out his dagger and stabbed one of them on the chest.  An oncoming vehicle hit their bike and both fell off as they tried to run away. Onlookers immediately mobilized and set the robbers ablaze.

The police, acting on a tip-off, stormed the scene, took the robbers’ gun and motorbike, drove off the scene of the incident, while the bodies were still burning. Contacted, Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Hassan Musa, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing.

70-Year-Old Proprietor Arrested for Defiling 8-Year-Old Pupil

Lagos State police command has arrested a 70-year old man for defiling an eight -year old girl in the metropolis.  

The suspect, a school proprietor was arrested by policemen attached to Igbogbo Police Division in Ikorodu.  It was gathered that the proprietor of the school after closing hour urged Agnes (real name withheld) to go into his office and wait.  The old man was alleged to have torn the minor’s pants before raping her. People living at Eturenren Street were stunned when they gathered at the premises of the Brighter Glory School where the incident took place. The aunt of the victim who spoke under the condition of anonymity said the victim’s friend and her younger sister were waiting outside after the suspect ordered the victim to go inside his office and wait. The two colleagues were said to have gone inside the office to check why she was still there but unfortunately they met the proprietor having carnal knowledge of the little girl.

Her aunt said: 

“Her friends saw what the proprietor was doing to her. They ran out of his office and left the victim who was said to be bleeding profusely from her private part. They raised the alarm. That was how we all went to the school, unfortunately the victim was still in the pool of her blood when we got to the proprietor’s office. “We took her to a private hospital where it was confirmed she was defiled and some semen which was brought out from her private part was shown to us.” 

A resident, Mama Ifeoma said it was not the first time the man was doing that to minors. 

Mama Ifeoma said: 

“Probably that man was cursed. He is becoming unbecoming to minors. Similar incident occurred in the school, as the owner of the school was said to have been fond of inserting his finger into the private parts of the kids.”  “That little girl was supposed to be the age of his granddaughter. It was after the incident that I got to know that the victim was not the only kid he had raped.  

The Lagos State police public relations officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu while confirming the story said that the case had been transferred to the State criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba.

A Randy Lagos Trader Rapes Neighbour’s Daughter inside Toilet

A 27-year-old trader, Lucky Bassey, has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping his neighbour’s daughter, Ruth (pseudonym) in the Bariga area of Lagos State. 

 

Both the suspect and the victim live in the same house on Akilo Street where the incident happened.  

PUNCH Metro learnt that the 12-year-old victim was using the toilet penultimate Monday, when the suspect forced the door open and subsequently raped her.   Their correspondent was told that the victim’s mother observed that she could not walk properly after she left the toilet. She interrogated Ruth, who told her mother that Bassey had raped her. The matter was reported at the Bariga Police Division and the suspect was subsequently arrested.  Ruth, a primary six pupil, told the police that Bassey had sex with her while standing. She said she could not tell how long the sexual assault lasted, but in the end, the suspect threatened to deal with her if she told anyone. 

She said:      

“I was in the toilet on Monday, May 25, around 8pm, when I heard a knock on the door. I told the person at the other side that I was using the toilet. But brother Bassey forced the door open and closed my mouth to stop me from shouting. We were both standing when he raped me. He said I should not tell my mother about it or he would deal with me.” 

The mother told PUNCH Metro that she observed that after she left the toilet she could not walk properly. She said it aroused her curiosity and she interrogated her daughter for information. 

“I called her and asked what happened to her. She told me that Bassey raped her.”  She said she reported the matter at the police station, leading to the arrest of the suspect. After the rape, Ruth bled for a week. She was reportedly rushed to a general hospital in the state where she was treated before the bleeding stopped.  The result of some tests conducted on her, which was sighted, stated that there was a forceful penetration into her private parts “which affected her clitoris and labia majora.” The victim’s mother said Bassey’s family members had been asking her to forgive the suspect. “We are both from the same village in Calabar, Akwa Ibom State. We also live in the same compound in Lagos. His people have been asking us to forgive him. 

Even our landlady has also begged me. But I have told them it was no longer within my power and that the government has taken over the case. I don’t know why it will be my daughter of all people that he will do this to when there are many prostitutes out there that he can have sex with.”  However, the suspect denied raping the victim. 

He said:

“I don’t know what she is talking about because on that day, I did not enter the toilet as she claimed and I did not rape her.”  

The Police Public Relations Officers, Kenneth Nwosu, when contacted, confirmed the incident.  

He said, “We arrested the suspect and he has been remanded in the Ikoyi Prison after being charged to court.”

The reality show matriarch has posted a very sweet note on Instagram in honor of North West turning two years old today.

"Happy Birthday to my beautiful little Granddaughter North!!! I love you my little TuTu girl," Jenner wrote on social media, adding:
"Thank you for bringing so much joy laughter and love into our lives!!! YOU and your precious cousins are the greatest blessings and gifts!! #northwest #bestdirection #lovebug #youaretwo!!"

Those are certainly very nice words for the offspring of Kanye West and Kim.

Jenner, however, got herself in a bit of trouble earlier this month for sending such gushing birthday love in the direction of Kanye.

According to one report, son Rob Kardashian was very angry at his mum because she blew off his big day and basically ignored him back in March, while showering her son-in-law with love on the anniversary of his birth.

Still, we doubt Rob will get worked up over anything Kris says here to little North.
She's pretty darn cute after all.

I Will Appoint My Ministers at the Right Time- Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari said he’s not in a hurry to appoint his ministers and that he will do that at the right time.

Buhari told reporters at the Summit of the African Union in Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to him;
” I don’t know why people are so anxious about ministers. But eventually we will have (them). But the main reason is that I have an interim committee which I agreed with the former President Jonathan that the ministers of the outgoing government should hand over their notes or their documents to this interim committee so that a position can be prepared for the new government to start from with clear records from ministers.“But the ministers knew that they were going while the technocrats, the permanent secretaries and directors and so on, would remain. If anything goes wrong they would be invited to explain, but unfortunately the outgoing government did not cooperate.
“So, what the committee did was to divide itself into about five sub-committees and got a resource person that was willing to come and bring the document, and so they prepared and I got the report I think three days ago. I was waiting for this report because I would like to know the position of things in the government especially in terms of finance and petroleum industry. So, I am not in a hurry to get ministers.“I want to get ministers after at least I have seen the report because I don’t have to appoint a minister today and sack him the next week because this report would give me what actually happened in terms of security, and economy of the country.“And since I have to have ministers from politicians and technocrats, I wouldn’t (like to) make the mistake of getting somebody, who has been involved on account of accountability.”

Caitlyn Jenner: Planning a Cross-Country Tour?

It's official: Caitlyn Jenner will be everywhere this summer.

In addition to her reality series, Jenner is apparently on the verge of inking endorsement deals with MAC Cosmetics and several other women's brands.

On top of all that, Radar Online is now reporting that beginning in August, Caitlyn will tour the country to offer her message of hope and perseverance to youths.

Jenner has already hinted at her next project, tweeting her support for the ongoing It Gets Better Tour, which was launched by gay activist and author Dan Savage in response to the staggering suicide rate amongst teens.

Insiders say the official announcement of Jenner's involvement will coincide with the start of her E! reality show.

Reached for comment, a spokesman for the It Gets Better Project neither confirmed nor denied that Jenner would be joining the tour, saying only, “We are excited to have Caitlyn Jenner’s support for our It Gets Better Tour.”

Jenner has spent much of her life criss-crossing the US on motivational speaking circuits.

In the late '80s and early '90s, Jenner spoke honestly about her various successes and failures in life on her Finding the Champion Within Tour.

Scary: Hospital Worker Takes Picture Of A”Ghost ” Outside Children’s Ward.

According to Andrew Milburn, A hospital worker, he photographed what appears to be a ghostly figure near a children’s ward at Leeds General hospital where he works.

Andrew was texting his girlfriend on Friday night just before starting his night shift.
To prove he was at work, he sent her a Snapchat image of a corridor on the hospital’s Clarendon Wing. But the 21-year-old says he had no idea that the picture actually appeared to show this ghostly looking figure. Andrew told Mirror Online:

“My girlfriend asked me to prove I was at work so I sent her a picture as I walked to my office.Unbeknown at the time it appears that I captured a ghost figure in the corridors.
“I have since put this picture on Facebook, it has received thousands of likes and comments and has been shared as far as America. It has also been shared on to paranormal investigator groups, many of which believe the picture is real.”

He said the room the ghostly figure appears to be walking into is where the switchboard works.
He said a number of colleagues at the hospital have heard footsteps at the spot when no-one is there.

“There have been a few odd things,” he said. “Now people are a bit scared, and apprehensive about going to the loo.”

A number of people on Facebook claimed the image had been photoshopped, something Andrew denies.
“I didn’t used to believe in ghosts,””I was always a skeptic.”
