A suspected rapist was shot dead last weekend by Policemen
from Mabushi division as he and his gang were raping a 24-year-old lady
at Mabushi area of Abuja.
A police source who spoke to Daily Trust said the victim, a banker
was alighting from a taxi at Mabushi overhead bridge when she was
approached by the gang of rapists.
They robbed her of her handbag, jewelries and other valuables, after
which they took her to a nearby bush where they tore her clothes and two
of them raped her.
Her cry for help was heard by the surveillance team who rescued her.
The police source explained that as the suspects saw the police
approaching, they started shooting leading to gun battle. In the
process, one of the suspected rapist was shot dead. Two others were
arrested while the others managed to escape.
Confirming the incident, Mabushi divisional police officer, Deputy
Superintendent Saheed Kazim said if not for the ladies cry for help
which was heard, it would have been worse, adding that the deceased
suspect was confirmed dead at Maitama General Hospital.
He said that two locally made pistols and different kind of daggers were recovered from the criminals.
He therefore advised residents to avoid lonely roads and unnecessary interaction with strangers.
