As the nation celebrated Children’s Day yesterday, May 27, two children were allegedly beaten to death by their parents in Agege and Oregun areas of Lagos State.

At about 2pm, a 12-year-old boy, Onyedikachi Mbanozo was reportedly beaten to coma by his guardians, one Mr and Mrs Paul Obiefule of 22, Omitola Street, Agege.
It was gathered from other residents in the area that the Obiefules were always beating the boy and they had always been warned of its implications but they turned a deaf ear.
On that fateful day, they had asked him to do some chores but he allegedly went to play with his peers and when they saw him they got angry and started beating him until he went into coma.
He was said to have later died of severe bleeding and pains.
When the police got the information, they moved to the scene, arrested the suspects and recovered  the body of the deceased, which was later deposited in the mortuary.
Similarly, a man allegedly hit his son identified as Bright, on the head with an iron belt for stealing N1,000 at the Oregun area of Ikeja.
The boy was rushed to Divine Private Hospital at Lawal Street, Oregun, where he was later confirmed dead.
The corpse has been deposited at the Lagos State University Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja mortuary for autopsy.
Confirming the two tragic incidents, Police spokesperson Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP), said the two cases were still under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.
She also warned parents to desist from beating their children, saying there were other ways to punish a child.
"Any parent who kills his or her child will go in for it and the law will take its course. The law will not consider if you are a parent or not;once you kill, you will be arrested and prosecuted," she said. (Naij.com)
