Less than six days before the 20th FIFA World Cup kicks off
in Brazil, Nigerian traders are saying they are bumper says on their
goods.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that
electronics and electrical appliances dealers at Alaba International
Market, Ojo, Lagos State are the ones reaping the benefits the most.
It
was gathered at the market that traders have been making good sales
since some weeks ago because of the global football competition.
Some
of the traders who spoke to NAN on the impact of the imminent
competition on their businesses said they foresaw better sales ahead.
“Football is a culture in Nigeria and anything that can enable us to catch a glimpse of the World Cup feast will be sought for.
“For
the past few days now, the demand for the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
type of television sets have increased unlike what the situation was few
months ago,” Mr Obinna Ojiego, a television seller said.

According
to him, the increase in sale of electronics shows the huge interests
Nigerians attach to football and especially to the world cup.
Another
dealer, Uzo Onukwe, disclosed that with the competition few days away,
he has been recording sales of five to 10 Flat Screen sets daily.
Onukwe informed that 'we always look forward to World Cup to make more sales'.
“Although there is no prize hike of the products, the joy of it is that the turnover is impressive at a faster rate,” he added.
A generator set seller, Mr Nzube Umeh, also stated that he had noticed an improved sales because of the forthcoming World Cup.
“The
incessant power outage in the country has made Nigerians who do not
want their watching matches on television to be disrupted during the
competition have resorted to purchasing electricity generating sets.
“In
anticipation of the competition and its accruing increase in sales, I
have placed order for new products of good qualities,” Umeh said.

Collins Orji, an electronic technician, also confirmed that the level of his patronage had increased for some weeks now.
The 2014 World Cup will begin on 12 June and end 13 July, 2014.
Nigeria's Super Eagles are drawn in Group F along side Argentina, Iran and Bosnia Herzegovina.
The
Nigerian team, who are presently in camping in the USA, would play a
warm up match against the Americans on Saturday after they recently
played out a 2-2 and 0-0 draws against Scotland and Greece respectively.
