Sympathisers wept profusely in Arepo area of Ogun State yesterday as
no fewer than 110 suspected petroleum pipeline vandals were roasted to
death. The incident occurred along the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC) pipeline.
According to LEADERSHIP ,the vandals were scooping fuel when it ignited
the fire, which raged for several hours. When this reporter visited the
scene, some survivors and other people were seen trying to put out the
inferno.
Some people could not identify the corpses of their family members and
friends, while those who recogised their relatives moved the bodies in
canoes.
The management of NNPC was said to have called the policemen attached
to the Inspector General of Police Special Task Force on Anti-Pipeline
Vandalism. Some policemen were stranded because of the swamp, and could
not reach the scene where corpses were being removed.
One police officer said,
“The vandals attacked members of OPC. We were, however, invited by NNPC
to come and secure the area while repairs will be done on the security
post. People who were roasted in this inferno should be 110.
The best
thing to use here is helicopter because it is not motorable”.
The newly posted officer in charge of the taskforce, Valentine Olumese, a
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) who was also at the scene, said
that the police had completed plans to take over the protection of the
area.
“The tent that was destroyed will be repaired and access to the scene will be created. Our men will maintain presence.”
Six Nigerian women have been sent back to the country from the
Burkina Faso where they were allegedly taken to for prostitution by a
woman, named Balikis.
While re-uniting the girls with their parents in Ibadan, Oyo State,
on Wednesday, the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Oyo
State Command, Innocent Akatu, said the girls were tricked to leave
Nigeria, adding that the victims did not tell their parents about the
journey.
Akatu said the girls refused to engage in prostitution in
Ouagadougu, Burkina Fasso, and were locked in a room by the trafficker.
He added that their journey back home after three weeks began when one of them escaped and alerted the Burkinabe police. He said,
“The victims, after being smuggled to Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso,
discovered that they were going to be used for prostitution. They were
not even told that they were going to Burkina Faso. These girls were
told that they would be given lucrative jobs abroad; one of them was
told that she was going to manage a jewellery shop owned by her
trafficker.
“One of them was taken from her home in Ikorodu, Lagos State, and
driven to Saki in Oyo State. When she asked why it had taken them so
long to reach the airport, she was told that the plane had left and that
they would have to travel by road.
“The Nigerian embassy assisted in arranging emergency travelling
documents for them to return to Nigeria after their lucky escape. We
have taken them to the hospital for screening and they are HIV
negative.”
One of the returnees, Ganiyat Samuel, said she lived with her grandmother in Ikorodu before she embarked on the journey.
She said, “A woman, called Balikis, came to me and said that I
would make more money as a fashion designer if I travel outside Nigeria.
I told her that I had no passport, but she said that she would take
care of it. I did not tell any of my parents.
“When we got to Saki, she said she could not get a passport for me
because the office had closed. We travelled for two days to get to
Burkina Faso. She took me to her house and told me that I would have to
do HIV test. The test revealed that I was pregnant, but HIV negative.
She told me that she brought me to the country for prostitution and that
I would have to abort the pregnancy. I refused and she locked me in a
room. When she brought another Nigerian a week later, I helped the girl
to escape and she alerted the police. The police rescued us and arrested
the woman.”
Samuel’s mother, Olasunkanmi Afuwape, said her father had died and
after she re-married, she took the girl and her brother to live with her
mother in Ikorodu.
Dominque Lesbirel was married to her cat and will marry her dog when time is right.
Dominique Lesbirel was devastated after the death of her husband from kidney failure.
They had been together for 16 years and did everything together.
Happily she has now found love again – but still believes it is too soon to marry, remaining loyal to her first love Doerack.
It is a predicament many people can relate to – except for a couple of small details.
Dominique's first husband Doerack was her CAT – and her new love is her Dog, Travis.
She wed her soul-mate, pet cat Doreack, eight years ago, but sadly he had to be put down at the age of 19.
"Putting
Doerack to sleep was horrible, I've had him since he was three, but I
feel lucky to have had 16 lovely years with him," she said,
"It sounds strange but I wouldn't marry Travis just yet," she said. "It's still too soon after the death of Doerack.
"I've had Travis for years. He was a stray I rescued when I lived in Greece.
"He would come down to the beach I swam at every day and eat from the bins or scrabble in the sand for old bits of crab.
"I'd
leave him food and water so he didn't have to drink from the sea. At
first he would hide in the bushes but eventually he got brave enough to
come over to me for cuddles.
"He'd steal my shoes and bag while I was swimming and, with it, he stole my heart."
When
Travis was struck with a life-threatening virus, Dominique, 41, decided
to take him in full time and the pair have been together ever since.
The upcoming ceremony will be done through Marryyourpet.com , a website Dominique set up in 2003.
The
site boasts several thousand visitors a day and Dominique, who lives in
Holland, pronounces several couples a month lawfully wedded pet and
owner.
After their applications to marry are approved, each couple is taken to a virtual chapel on screen, where they exchange vows.
The happy couple then click a button to say 'I do' and Dominique, who became ordained online, sends them a certificate.
She
said she encourages people to see the ceremony as a normal wedding,
planning in advance, inviting friends and throwing lavish parties to
celebrate.
"Not all applications get approved," she said. "There are rules, as with any marriage.
"I'm
happy to conduct same sex marriages, or to let people marry more than
one pet. I only marry domestic animals, though. In some parts of the
world, you hear of people keeping lions and tigers as pets – I wouldn't
marry people to them.
"I also need to be sure they truly love and respect their pet."
Marryyourpet.com's den rule is that divorce is not an option.
"The
difference between a church ceremony and my online chapel is that I
don't allow divorce. I don't want to let anybody abandon their pet,"
said Dominique.
Although most people understand the light-hearted and loveable tone of the site, a small handful have not seen the funny side.
Dominique claims to have received hate mail and even death threats in the past.
"I had people emailing me telling me I was cruel," she said.
"They
said I was basically promoting animal cruelty. Some were horrified and
thought I was condoning bestiality, which was awful and certainly not
the case.
"I would never condone such terrible acts of cruelty to
animals. My site is all about making a commitment to pets to show your
dedication to them and promise that you will always look after them.
Dominique was inspired to set up the site after her cat Zeus was tragically run over and killed.
"I
felt really depressed and nobody seemed to get it," she said. "People
just kept saying, 'Come on, it's just a cat,' but it wasn't to me.
"We
have such a strong bond with our pets, but if you tell people you'd
rather go home to your cat than go out, they look at you like you're
insane.
"With a human, you can point to a ring to show you're
committed to each other but with pets, there's no one moment of joy to
mark that bond.
"Pets are loyal and adoring so I wanted to create something to celebrate that.
"We
all need that unconditional love, but it can be hard to find with a
person, especially when everyone withdraws behind their phone or laptop
screens, so why not look to a pet instead?"
Dominique 's site also offers advice for couples in crisis.
"So
what if kitty's having an affair with your neighbour or Fido's too busy
on eBay to give you quality time," it reads. "For better or worse,
remember? Clearly it's time to put the spice back into your marriage."
The
section includes recommendations of pet therapists as well as ideas of
treats for furry friends should any owners find themselves in the dog
house.
Couples also keep in touch with the Marryyourpet.com team to update them on married life as they rack up anniversaries.
"We'd
be lost without those happy little faces at our windows, so I'll do
anything I can to remind people to treat animals with love, kindness and
respect.
"That's why I'm planning to marry Travis. He's given me
so much happiness and unconditional love. I just want to celebrate that
bond."
Caitlyn Jenner took to Instagram to show her fans her
expanding shoe collection, which includes everything from nude patent
leather ankle-strap sandals to metallic pumps, flats and leopard heels.
"Don’t get jealous Khloe! It’s filling up,” Caitlyn said.
Is there really a standard for a beautiful joystick?
The truth is Wha'anda has never thought of a penis as something that should be beautiful.
But, looking at it from the angle of how men appreciate breasts – shape, size, colour, nipple, bla bla bla, it is fair enough to understand that women have the idea of an ideal penis.
In line with this, scientists at the University of Zurich recently did a study that asked, what is a good looking penis?"
A focus group of 105 women, ranging from ages 16 to 45, was asked to rank the "importance of eight penile aspects"— from girth(thickness/fatness) to pubic hair — by showing them a wide range of penises and asking them to describe the different penises as "normal" or not.
The result of the study was published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine.
According to their conclusion, THE SIZE DOESN'T REALLY MATTER, AS LONG AS THE MAN'S PENIS IS BEAUTIFUL AND WELL-GROOMED.
Certainly, a lot of guys will heave a sigh of relief at that.
Now, according to the women's rankings, here are the things women look out for (in order of importance) in a penis:
It's a good thing Kim Kardashian revealed her second pregnancy to the world when she did, because she certainly couldn't have kept it a secret much longer.
Yes, seemingly overnight, Kim is showing like a mother (to be)!
That's Mrs. Kardashian-West in Paris yesterday, and while we don't know
for sure if Kanye is still picking out Kim's clothes, it certainly
seems like she'll continue to eschew traditional maternity wear in favor
of tailored couture, just as she did with baby number one.
There's no word on what Kim is doing in Europe, but the City of Light
seems to be her venue of choice for bold, pregnant fashion statements.
Last month, we got our first look at Kim's pregnancy cleavage while
she was in Paris. Now, she's back to show the world's fashion capital what an old-fashioned American pregnancy really looks like:
Someone needs to take her aside and say, "Kim, it's fine. The whole world has seen you naked. You can rock an oversized t-shirt and some sweatpants for a few months and no one will forget that you're hot."
Normally, that would be a husband's job, but Kim married a dude who threw out her entire wardrobe and now approves all her outfits.
We're not even kidding. That's the thing about Kanye: Too often, things
that sound like ridiculous jokes are actually just facts about the way
the man chooses to live his life.
Anyway, lookin' good, Kim! Just remember - there's really no pressure to keep squeezing into those Spanx.
