AWWW!: Stadiums for 2014 #World Cup (See Photos)
A lot has changed since 1950, when Brazil first hosted soccer’s (or football,
for that matter) biggest event. Construction techniques and machinery
have evolved since and venues show bedazzling features to provide
comfort for attendants while they witness live this exciting event. You
are probably familiar with favorite teams to take the trophy home as
well as the candidates for individual feats such as becoming the
tournament’s top scorer. But are you already familiar with the STADIUMS
hosting the 20th edition of the soccer World cup?
One of the few stadiums built previously well before Brazil was awarded to host the 20th edition of the football World Cup, named after one of Brazil’s greatest players. Estadio Nacional is hosting Switzerland vs. Ecuador (Group E), Colombia vs. Ivory Coast (Group C), Cameroon vs. Brazil (Group A) and Portugal vs. Ghana (Group G) during the first round.
The country’s capital will also host a second round match between the 1st place from Group E vs. 2nd place from Group F, a quarter-final match as well as the next to last match of the tournament to define the 2nd runner up to the championship.
Castelao (Portuguese for “castle”) honors its own and the city’s name (‘fortaleza’ meaning “fortress” in English). Though remodeled for this World Cup’s edition, it was first opened during 1973.
Matches held at Castelao include Group D’s Uruguay vs. Costa Rica, Brazil vs. Mexico regarding Group A, Germany vs. Ghana (Group G), Greece vs. Ivory Coast (Group C); and also the second round match between Group B’s 1st place vs. 2nd place from Group A, and finally a quarter-final match.
Mineirao seats over 62,000; it’s located in Minas Gerais’ state capital. The venue opened in 1965 and during the 20th edition of football’s World Cup its attendants are to witness matches between Colombia and Greece (from Group C), Belgium vs. Algeria (Group H), Argentina vs. Iran (Group F) and Costa Rica against England, during the first round. Group A leader and Group B second place will hold a match once in knock-out rounds, with a semi-final becoming Mineirao’s last match held during the tournament.
Maracana, Rio de Janeiro
The tournament’s oldest stadium and the only
one repeating from 1950 edition held also in Brazil. This used to be the
largest stadium in the world for a long time, when more than 110,000
would fill the venue, but back then this was standing-room only. Today,
Maracana can comfortably seat 78,838 spectators.
For the 2014 World Cup, Maracana is hosting
seven matches: Argentina vs. Bosnia (Group F), spain vs. Chile (Group
B), Belgium vs. Russia (Group H) and Ecuador vs. France (Group E).
During the next round, the 1st place from Group C and 2nd from Group D
will face each other in this venue, and it will also host a
quarter-final match as well as the final.
Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha, Brasilia
Arena Corinthians, Sao Paulo
The 60,000-plus stadium is one of the most
appealing recently-built venues for the tournament. Arena Corinthians is
located in Sao Paulo, the country’s largest city. Group-stage matches
at this stadium include Brasil vs. Croatia (Group A), Uruguay vs.
England (Group D), Netherlands vs. Chile (Group B), South Korea vs.
Belgium (Group H), as well as a second round matches between Group F’s
1st place team against the 2nd place from Group E, ending its
involvement with the tournament with a semi-final match on July 9th.
Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza
Castelao (Portuguese for “castle”) honors its own and the city’s name (‘fortaleza’ meaning “fortress” in English). Though remodeled for this World Cup’s edition, it was first opened during 1973.
Matches held at Castelao include Group D’s Uruguay vs. Costa Rica, Brazil vs. Mexico regarding Group A, Germany vs. Ghana (Group G), Greece vs. Ivory Coast (Group C); and also the second round match between Group B’s 1st place vs. 2nd place from Group A, and finally a quarter-final match.
Mineirao, Belo Horizonte
Mineirao seats over 62,000; it’s located in Minas Gerais’ state capital. The venue opened in 1965 and during the 20th edition of football’s World Cup its attendants are to witness matches between Colombia and Greece (from Group C), Belgium vs. Algeria (Group H), Argentina vs. Iran (Group F) and Costa Rica against England, during the first round. Group A leader and Group B second place will hold a match once in knock-out rounds, with a semi-final becoming Mineirao’s last match held during the tournament.
Estádio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre
Slightly over 50,000 football enthusiasts fit comfortably in Beira-Rio, home of Sport Club Internacional since 1969.
Attendants to matches held at Porto Alegre
may witness Group E action between France and Honduras, a Group B match
starring Australia vs. Netherlands, South Korea and Algeria from Group
H, and its final first round match will be the one between Nigeria and
Argentina. For the knock-out rounds, fans at Biera-Rio are to witness
who advances and who heads home after 1st place from Group G meets Group
H’s 2ndplace.
Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador de Bahia
A venue built precisely for this World Cup
edition, Fonte Nova seats 50,000 attendants. The arena boasts a
beautiful roof to provide a cool shade in most of its seating sections;
the roof consists of large translucent panels.
Bahians are to attend first round action with
a rematch of the final held four years ago at South Africa between
reigning champion Spain and the Netherlands -who find themselves
belonging to Group B-; days after, a possibly very exciting match
between Germany and Portugal will take place for these squads belonging
to Group G; Switzerland and France play there as well for a Group E
match, Group F’s Bosnia and Iran will put an end to first round action
at Fonte Nova. Teams advancing as 1stplace for Group H and 2nd place
from Group G will face each other in second round action; and finally a
quarter-final will also take place at Salvador de Bahia’s amazing new
sports venue.
Itaipava Arena Pernambuco, Recife
Recife’s attractions are much more than just
its beautiful beaches. Arena Pernambuco just opened last year. This
colorful place has two seating levels divided by press boxes parallel to
the sidelines.
Ivory Coast and Japan will begin live
action for Pernambucanos in a Group C match, Group D rivals Italy and
Costa Rica will also meet at Itaipava Arena, Croatia vs. Mexico from
Group A is the third match to be held there, and the last first-round
match at Recife is between the United States squad against the Germans.
The knock-out match between Group D’s first place and 2nd place from
Group C will be the last of the competition at such a beautiful venue.
Arena Pantanal, Cuiaba
Pantanal stadium was one of the first new
venues whose construction started as soon as Brazil was appointed host
for the 2014 World Cup. It’s shape is similar to that of older European
stadiums whose grandstands consist on different, separated buildings. It
was completed just last April and it will only host first-round action.
Matches at the city of Cuiaba include Chile
vs. Australia (Group B), Group H action between Russia and South Korea,
the Nigeria vs. Bosnia game from Group F, and Japan vs. Colombia (Group
C)
Arena de Amazonia, Manaus
This is not the postcard-picture-perfect
ideas of Brazil which are usually displayed for us in the media with
sandy beaches. This is the northern part of the country, capital of the
Amazonas state, which bears its own beauty. Arena da Amazonia was built
for the World Cup and is able to host up to 42,300 seated attendants
Manaus will be hosting Group D action opening
with the England vs. Italy clash of two former World Cup champions,
Cameroon and Croatia will be playing their second match in the
tournament for each of these Group A teams, the U.S.A. and Portugal will
have the chance to show their different approaches to the game for the
schedule belonging to Group G. Finally, Honduras and Switzerland will
meet to define Group E positions as Amazonas hosts its final World Cup
match
Arena das Dunas, Natal
Dunas is a new venue for the folks where
Brazil’s north coast begins. The beautiful stadium was just completed
with capacity for 45,000. The top of the arena seems like a seashell
whose top part was removed (if it wasn’t, we would be talking about a
domed stadium, then).
The city of Natal is about to witness
Mexico’s first match of the tournament against Cameroon in the difficult
Group A, which is the one also including the very dangerous home squad,
Brazil. Other matches played at Dunas stadium are Ghana vs. United
States (Group G), Japan vs. Greece in Group C play, and the final match
in Natal will face two former world champions which -at times in
history- have shown somewhat similar styles: Italy against Uruguay.
Going back in time, remember Uruguay was the first ever football
champion when they hosted the first edition of the tournament back in
1930 and got to lift the cup in 1950 after challenging the odds by
defeating the home team during the first time Brazil hosted the
tournament. Italy has doubled the accomplishment ending up as champions
in the 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006 editions.
Nadia Buari REJECTS $75,000 Endorsement Deal?
According to an article we received from Nadia Buari’s camp (calling themselves team Nadia Buari), the 2014 African Achievers Awards actress of the year has allegedly turned down an endorsement deal worth $75,000 from French cosmetic company Avant Claire Grande.
PR’ for the actress is reported to have said the endorsement contract was a bid for Avant Claire to lace into the African market with Nadia Buari as their brand ambassador because she appealed to their target market better than any other African celebrity based on their research.
The actress hence called off the signing at a board meeting in Paris after discovering the Claire product contained compounds of hydroquinone (a chemical used for skin whitening and bleaching).
When asked of reasons for her actions she educated the press of the negative effects skin bleaching adding that she (Nadia Buari) wasn’t going to give up her ethics for any amount of money.
Our research confirms Avant Claire Grande is one of the leading skin care brands in Europe that manufactures a wide range of beauty enhancement products for women…

5 Things You Should Never Do To Your Partner
Have you ever reasoned out that our actions, little as it could be or seem sometimes, could actually be our greatest undoing and the cause for everlasting regret?
Do you aspire to live happily ever after with that Romeo or Julliet of yours? Here are five (5) things you never should do to your partner to enjoy a blissful and peaceful marital sojourn.
Comparing Your Partner With Someone Else
It is never a good or brilliant idea to compare your partner with another person. Whether for fun sake, complimentary sake, derisory sake or spiteful sake, it doesn't always go down well with the significant other and it doesn't end well as well, too. If anything, it creates an impression of your partner being inadequate and it's nothing but a recipe for emotional demarcation and a drifting connection. Just so you know, a negative comparison with your ex (probably how he buys you islands, jets, Egyptian hair, Mexican shirts or how sweet her voice is, etc) is simply a good way to worsen your relationship; and next time you experience such urge, bite your tongue (real hard) for 10 seconds.
Constant Lies
Lies are never welcome guests in a relationship. They only breed distrust, hurt and irritation. Seriously, the way some lie, even the devil would be forced to marvel. Building a relationship on the foundation of lies; moulding and patching it with lies, would only end up crumbling on lies and probably crushing a life.
Being An Irritable Source Of Nagging
Every person looks towards his/her partner as a source of happiness when sad, comfort when distressed, calm when angry, encouragement when down, and smile when stressed up. However, no one enjoys being in the presence of someone who nags one like (s)he is under the influence of some territorial powers. Frustrating the life out of your partner is a liberal invitation for emotional distantness and eventual separation.
Showing Your Partner Little or No Respect
Respect for your partner here doesn't imply reverencing him/her like: His royal majesty or Her royal highness, etc. It means giving him/her regard by not doing the things that (s)he detest.
Badmouthing Him/Her To Others
Involving a third, fourth or hundredth party in your relationship should always be done with caution and prudence. The 'who' to tell and 'what' to say could make or mar your relationship. However, constantly badmouthing and negatively painting your partner bad to outsiders not only hurt your partner when they have the knowlegde of your action and words but ultimately sacrifices the relationship on the alter of unwise behaviour. If, as a matter of fact, you discover that you can't just break the habit or you seem to derive some pleasure from this, you might need more than a deliverance, you need a total overhauling.
If you've been engaged in any of the above or have a contrary opinion, kindly share your thoughts.
"Human Barbie' Valeria Lukyanova in a Bikini - Hard to Believe She's an Actual Human Being
New pictures of Valeria Lukyanova in a bikini have come online, and each time I see her, I wonder anew, is she for real? The 28-year-old Ukrainian model aspires to be a real life Human Barbie Doll. With the heavy make-up she is adept at putting on, and her abnormally tiny waist, Valeria really looks like a Barbie Doll.
Even when she poses without make-up, she looks so thin it is almost unbelievable, like some painting or drawing on Photoshop.
Valeria says she is a follower of Breatharianism, a practice in which followers don't eat or drink and believe they can exist solely on "cosmic micro-food." She also recently caused some online controversy when she claimed in an interview with GQ that interracial couples are the reason behind an increase in cosmetic surgery by 'making the human race uglier'. She had said :
"For example, a Russian marries an Armenian," Valeria elaborates helpfully. "They have a kid, a cute girl, but she has her dad's nose. She goes and files it down a little, and it's all good. Ethnicities are mixing now, so there's degeneration, and it didn't used to be like that. Remember how many beautiful women there were in the 1950s and 1960s, without any surgery? And now, thanks to degeneration, we have this. I love the Nordic image myself. I have white skin; I am a Nordic type—perhaps a little Eastern Baltic, but closer to Nordic."On having children, she says'
"It's unacceptable to me. The very idea of having children brings out this deep revulsion in me. Most people have children to fulfill their own ambitions, not to give anything. They don't think about what they can give this child, what they can teach her. They just try to shape her according to some weird script—whatever they couldn't do in life, like becoming a writer or a doctor. Or some woman who's almost 30 and thinks no one needs her, she says, 'Oh, I'll have a kid. He will love me and become my reason to live.' And then this kid becomes a soccer ball she and her boyfriend will kick back and forth. I'd rather die from torture, because the worst thing in the world is to have a family lifestyle."Check out the new photos of herself in a bikini that Valeria shared on her Instagram page below.

Photos - Two Teenage Students Die During Balcony Sex As They Fall From The Sixth Floor
Two teenagers died after falling from a block of flats while having sex on a balcony, witnesses say.
The 18-year-old man and 19-year-old woman died after what Scotland Yard said was a 'tragic accident' shortly after midnight at Knights Tower in Wharf Street, Deptford, south London.
Neighbours said a party was taking place inside the sixth-floor flat at the time of the incident.
Two teenagers died after plunging from the sixth floor balcony (circled) of this riverside apartment block
Samson Oguntayo, 32, a self-employed
events manager who lives in neighboring Cornmill House, said he and his
partner saw the couple fall.
Mr
Oguntayo said: 'They were trying to have sex on the balcony, the guy
was lifting the girl and putting her on the bannister, he kept on doing
it.
'He was putting her on there - they were going back and forth. You could see they were doing some really dangerous stuff.
'It is not the first time we have seen people on the balcony acting up.
Samson Oguntayo discovered the bodies of the two teenagers this morning
'At
some point friends must have come outside and they got down and came
back inside and then came back out again. This time they started doing
it again.
'You see people on
the balcony doing all sorts of things and I just felt it was one of
those things and in a moment they will probably go back inside.
'The last thing I expected was to see them falling down five floors. We just screamed.'
He
said he ran down and jumped over a fence and discovered the couple in a
pool of blood. He said it was believed there were around seven students at the party.
Bouquets of flowers have been placed at the foot of the tower, which has spectacular views of the Thames and Canary Wharf.
Detective
Chief Superintendent Helen Millichap, the borough commander for
Greenwich, said: 'We believe this was a tragic accident involving two
young people who were students attending a local college.
'We
cannot release detailed information at the moment because we are still
informing their families.
'We will work closely with the college to make
sure any affected students receive information and support. Our thoughts
are with the family and friends of these young people.'

A general view of Knights Tower where two teenagers fell to their deaths this morning
The teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene after they fell from this building in Deptford
Another
resident, who lives in the block opposite Knights Tower and did not
want to be identified, said he saw a couple 'frolicking' on the balcony
last night.
'The occupants
were inside, these two were on the balcony. We were shutting our blinds
when we saw a couple on their balcony frolicking. They were kissing and
stuff, she was telling him to get off her.
'We then shut our balcony.'
He said less than 10 minutes later he heard a 'bang'.
His female partner, who also did not wish to be identified, said: 'We thought someone had been shot.'
He said a neighbour had witnessed the couple falling.
'She
saw him lift her up and put her on the edge of the balcony. She said
she had her arms around his neck and then he was stood against her,
kissing her. Then she saw his legs stumble backwards - he stumbled
backwards and she stumbled the other way. Then they both fell off.'
The accident happened at Knights Tower (left) on the banks of the Thames in south London
The
couple from opposite Knights Tower said they later comforted a woman
called Daria outside the block, who was 'hysterical' after the accident.
Daria said she was the dead woman's best friend.
Police officers were called to the scene at 00.13am by paramedics who attended, Scotland Yard said.
Shradha
Chaturvedi, 31, an auditor and resident of the second floor of Knights
Tower, said she had heard a loud 'boom' last night, which she believed
to be a firework at first.
'I
heard a very, very loud noise and a lady screaming initially - I heard a
boom and at first I thought a firework had gone off or something,' she
said.
'My husband came down
and there were two other guys outside who were totally drunk. They said
"Don't go out there". There was a woman out there who was crying.'
Maureen
Flynn, 22, a resident of a neighbouring block, said: 'I did not see
them fall but I saw their friends come out on to the balcony. They were
crying, they did not know what had happened.
'I had to tell them "Your friends are dead".'
'We thought someone had been shot'
Neighbour
Neighbour
Ellen
Faulkner, 31, a resident of the nearby Canterbury House block, who gave
birth to a baby boy four days ago, said the shock of hearing about the
deaths had left her 'shaking' last night.
'This is a new building, you don't expect anything like this to happen,' she said.
The colleges where the two teenagers were studying released a statement today.
The
18-year-old man who died was a student at Embassy College campus while
the 19-year-old woman was studying at Bellerbys College - both in
Deptford, South East London.
Paul McGregor, principal
of Bellerbys College London and David Rowland, from the Centre Director
Embassy London issued a joint statement today saying: 'The police
informed us of a tragic off-campus accident in the early hours of
Wednesday June 11, in which a student from Embassy London and a student
from Bellerbys London, aged 18 and 19 respectively, fell from the
balcony of a privately owned London residence, and were pronounced dead
at the scene.
'Police are not treating the incident as suspicious but will continue to investigate.
'We
are supporting the families of the deceased through this very difficult
time. Counselling services are available to all students and staff at
the college.'
A cafe owner said the teenagers were
likely to have been celebrating the end of their recent exams and were
most likely to be from wealthy foreign families.
The man, who did not want to be named, said: 'It's so heartbreaking.
'Students from Bellerbys are so well mannered, decent and kind.
'Because English is their second language, their English is amazing. They're all gentlemen and ladies.
'I usually have groups from Singapore, Mexico and Russia but none have come into the shop today.
'It costs about £42,000 a year to do a foundation course there. They do it so they can get into university. They come here to study after doing an International Baccalaureate in their own country.
'It costs about £42,000 a year to do a foundation course there. They do it so they can get into university. They come here to study after doing an International Baccalaureate in their own country.
'Yesterday
was the last day of their exams and they were probably out celebrating
the end of the academic year. They deserve to party, they work really
hard.'
Egor Efiok Blasts Bloggers Over RMD’s Ill-Health Rumour
Nigerian celebrity publicist, Egor Efiok has vehemently reacted to news making the rounds that veteran actor, Richard Mofe Damijo, better known as RMD, is sick.
Recall that on Tuesday, Nigeriafilms.com posted pictures of the actor at the Tribute Night held in honour of late Amaka Igwe, which was held in Lagos, and it was confirmed to us that the actor is hale and hearty. Read it HERE.
In her reaction posted on Facebook on Wednesday, the E4 PR boss slammed some journalists who went as far as quoting a ‘Stella Damascus’ as their source of the story.
Below is her Facebook post;
Honestly, I am now convinced that junk journalism in Nigeria is becoming quite 'fashionable'. How else can one explain how a false story about RMD went viral just like that and nothing has been done to put these cowboys where they belong?
Someone thought it would be funny to put out a doctored photo of RMD to make him appear ill and not satisfied with doing that, some other nincompoops have been spreading more false rumours alleging terminal illness.
One mumu called Emmanuel whose number I have saved as "Emma Junk Journalist" has been spreading false rumours that Stella Damasus confirmed that RMD has a terminal illness. Most annoyingly, any literate person that sees that post supposedly written by Stella, can tell that it is a fake account. What stands out most is the surname, "DAMASCUS" and we all know that Stella's surname is Damasus.
It is only semi-literate 'journalists' that keep misspelling her surname. The types that don't know the difference between past and present tenses and write sentences like "something FISHING is going on". Fishing?
Okay, back to the matter being discussed. When I saw Emma Junk Journalist's broadcast on WhatsApp, I alerted him to his obvious blunder and the evil meanie has still refused to take down the story from his blog. It's obvious as well that he has done this on purpose, because he spelt Stella's surname rightly on the post title, but posted the message from the fake STELLA DAMASCUS Facebook account as 'proof' of his false story.
This is deliberate slander, so please tell me why people like these should be allowed to operate. I can now understand why () Magazine sacked you Mr Emmanuel (aka Emma Junk Journalist). I weep for our well respected credible journalists like the Shaibu Husseinis and the Victor Akandes.
Please don't allow these cowboys give your hard earned craft a bad name. When will this "pull me down syndrome" end? Finally, in the interests of those that keep asking if RMD is sick, please quote me anywhere when I say that he's very fit and healthy and looks NOTHING like those images being circulated.
When you meet him in person, you can tell that he keeps fit and watches what he eats. Although he is very busy as a commissioner, RMD is an actor first and will not shy away from public functions supporting his craft.
He should be commended for this and for being able to keep his weight healthy when many people his age have pot bellies. Please leave our original Nollywood hunk alone and stop spreading false rumours about him. RMD is NOT SICK. Thank you.
Shaibu, while commenting on the above post, wrote, “Thank you world publicist for standing up to this. I was taken aback when I saw the piece on social media and like you said "bros' confirmed that he is well but just that he is on a very strict diet routine and I think we should respect his views.
“I still saw him during the week and bros Richard Evans Damijo is very well. Hopefully I will see him at Amaka's interment on Friday in Imo and would extract an interview from him on the matter. But bros is fine.”

Celebrity One Night Stands! (Must Read)
At the mention of this topic, so many things come into play in our minds. We are no strangers to the news of celebrity one night stands, as this happens frequently in the entertainment industry, be it in movies or music. So many of us ask ourselves what the motive behind this scandalous act is. Well, the answer isn’t that far from our reach.
It’s no doubt we’ve all had a celebrity crush when we were growing up. Mine was Yul Edochie and Muna Obiekwe, and I wonder which of the famous celebrities was your crush while growing up? This turned so many youths into active partying and clubbing in order to have a moment with their celebrity crush, this automatically turns the ladies into groupies and sex objects for entertainers.Fame as we know it comes with many friends, the will-power to control fame is the key factor in every celebrity’s lifestyle. Partying and a heavy alcohol habit leads to some certain unconscious and erratic behaviour. Apparently, artistes are known to be heavy party goers, apart from the fact of their partying lifestyle, adolescent girls want to earn the attention of superstars irrespective of the repercussions. These sets of girls are referred to as ‘Groupies’.
These groupies play an important role in the in life of artistes, from hype to event turn-up; you will always find groupies around this set of personalities. But in most cases, after series of sexual affairs, these groupies start to get emotionally attached to the respective entertainers and this leads to series of hostile events, eventual ending up on blogs and national daily’s.
Sexual discipline is the toughest virtue a man can acquire, as the saying goes “a rising penis has no conscience”. An upright man will always find his way to overcome such situations while the weaker man falls for the seduction of jezebels, and in weeks this makes the headlines of tabloids as sexual scandals.
Fame in the hands of teenage star is absolutely uncontrollable and requires the total attention of a more matured guardian to mentor such acts into becoming responsible men. For some Adults who also have the tendency to behave like kids they need to be tamed or else the street would be littered with kids as a result of mistake from a pleasurable one night stand.
There are certain ways this can be curbed in the society. Firstly, as a star in a relationship, never leave your partner to attend events that have after parties alone. Always spend so much time with your spouse or fiancé to build a level of bond that you will always want to spend more time always.
Secondly, celebrities need to stay away from drugs usage; this is major influence by peer group, making them feel that it is a culture amongst the stars to readily get high. Therefore a celebrity with low self-esteem is more likely to fall into this category of scandalous news.
Conclusively, artistes need to go for proper counseling maybe once or twice monthly to enable them stay focused and upright, and also the need to acquire self-discipline in all facets of life is highly advisable.
