Ukranian Security Negotiate To Free Kidnapped Nigerian Students

Nine Nigerian students were abducted by separatists on Monday in the eastern city of Luhansk, Ukraine. According to Ukrainian official, negotiations are underway to free them.

The Nigerian students were taken captive by ‘the terrorists’. Militants have been holding them as prisoners for four days already at an occupied government security building.

According to Colonel Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, who spoke with reporters Wednesday, people with experience conducting negotiations were making contact with what he called "the terrorists."

He said Ukrainian officials hoped the talks would end "successfully in the near future."

Relatives of kidnapped students have been making efforts to address a press conference at the Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine.

The city is deep inside rebel-held territory, close to the Russian border.

Separatists seeking greater autonomy have been waging a bloody battle in eastern Ukraine against the government.
