Police storm brothel, arrest five kidnappers who abducted septuagenarian and collected N7.9m ransom in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested five suspected kidnappers who abducted a 70-year-old woman and collected N7.9m ransom before releasing her.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, said four locally fabricated guns, N450,000 and other items were recovered from the suspects.

According to the PPRO, the suspects were arrested by a crack squad attached to the Ughelli Area Command at a brothel in Weu town in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state. 

"On 12/09/2024 at about 0130hrs Crack Squad attached to Area Command Ughelli acting on a tip off, stormed a brothel cum criminal hideout in Ewu town Ughelli South LGA and arrested five suspects namely; Dominic Uweru "m" Alias Ovwolo 48YRS, Isaac Oghenerukevwe ‘m' Alias Plug 34yrs, Oviri Godstime "m" 25yrs, Junior Sunday ‘m’ and Efedeki Adjovo ‘m’," the statement read.

"One single barrel gun, three locally made cut-to-size gun, cash sum of Four hundred and fifty thousand naira (#450,000.00) ransom one Moniepoint POS machine, one OPAY POS machine, wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. 

“They confessed to various armed robbery/kidnapping operations in Ughelli and environs, including the kidnap of a 70-year-old woman (name withheld) who they kidnapped on 08/09/2024 and collected the sum of Seven million, Nine hundred thousand naira ransom (#7,900,000) on 10/9/2024 before her release. The suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.”

Kidnappers k!ll hotel owner, manager and guest despite N25m ransom payment

Kidnappers have k!lled a hotel owner, his manager and a guest abducted in the Gauraka community in Tafa Local Government Area of GA of Niger State after N25m ransom payment. 

It was that two vigilantes from the community, Abubakar Muhammad and Ibrahim Garba, (pictured), who took the ransom to the kidnappers, were equally killed by the bandits.

 

Recall that the victims were abducted in the early hours of August 17, 2024

An ex-Chairman of Tafa LGA and relative of one of the vigilantes, Yau Ahmad, who confirmed the development to Daily Trust said the victims were sh0t d3ad in the Dogon-Daji Forest which borders Kaduna and Niger State, as well as the FCT.

He said that the remains of the victims were taken to the Air Force base close to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja following their discovery in the bush.

The commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) Tafa, Hussaini Abubakar, said the remains of his colleagues were laid to rest on Saturday following a clearance from the army.

He further said that a man abducted from the community about a month earlier was rescued with gunshot injuries and was in an army medical facility in Abuja.

EFCC arrests five Chinese for alleged illegal mining in Akwa Ibom
Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, have arrested five suspected illegal Chinese miners at Ndito-Eka-Iba village, in Ibieno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
 
The commission in a statement on Sunday, September 15, 2024, said the five alleged illegal miners were arrested by the “Special Task Force on illegal Mining” at the Commission’s Zonal office in Uyo, following credible intelligence on the illegal activities of foreign mining companies within Eket and Ibieno Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.
 
The arrested Chinese suspects are: Zhon Qinping arrested on September 10, 2024 at Ibieno Local Government Area, while Li Yi, Xie Bin, Chen Mou Zhou and Chen Zeng were arrested on August 29, 2024 at the same location.
 
They were all arrested at an illegal mining site of a mineral suspected to be ilmenite, a titanium- iron oxide mineral.
 
The suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
