Housewife poisons her husband to death in Borno, says "I hate marriage"

The Borno Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old housewife, Fatima Abubakar, for allegedly killing her husband, Goni Abbah with poison.

The Commissioner Of Police, Mr Abdu Umar, who disclosed this to the News men in Maiduguri, on Sunday, October 30, said that the suspect was arrested on October 19 by men of the Command at Anguwan Doki.

Umar said that the victim, who was the Chief Imam of the area, returned from the mosque when the suspect, who was the second wife, allegedly mixed poison in his food.

The CP explained that as soon as Goni started eating, his condition deteriorated.

According to him, the victim was immediately rushed to the State Specialist Hospital where he was given emergency medical attention,  but unfortunately, he later died when they returned home.

The commisioner of Police immediately deployed men of the  Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to arrest the suspect after the incident was reported by the family of the victim at the GRA Police Station.

He noted that on the arrival of the police, they witnessed large numbers of aggrieved youths in the neighbourhood who stormed the home of the victim with the intention to lynch the suspect but the police were able to bring the situation under control.

He added that the suspect, in her statement, confessed to the alleged crime, noting that she bought the poison from Monday Market when she already made up her mind to kill him.

The police boss said that the case had been registered as culpable homicide at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions before she would be charged to court.

The suspect, Fatima who was paraded at the command, told newsmen that she killed her husband with poison because she was tired of the marriage.

"I never wanted the marriage. Goni was my second husband; I got separated with my first husband because I hate marriage," she said.

"Anytime I woke up with the fact that I am married, it pisses me off. At some point, I had to run to my parent to demand an end to the marriage but they always sent me back, asking me to be patient,"

"At some point, two months after I gave birth to my child, I ran away and slept in an uncompleted building for about two weeks. I later returned to my husband’s house.

“Not that he doesn’t treat me well, we are also not quarrelling. We are two in the household, I am his second wife and I have been married to him since 2021. But I just hate when any man comes near me.

"I don’t really know what is wrong with me. Even now that I am speaking to you, I don’t really feel that I was the one who killed him," she added as she broke down in tears.

Man reportedly commits suicide after discovering he’s not the biological father of his 10-yr-old daughter

A middle-aged man has allegedly committed suicide in South Africa after he found out that his child was fathered by someone else.

Twitter user, Mo Magoda, who shared the deceased’s story on the microblogging site, said he discovered that he is not the biological father of his 10-year-old daughter after seeing court documents.

The 42-year-old man saw the DNA test results and court documents sent to his wife by his daughter’s real father.

The biological father was demanding access and custody of the child, so he served the woman court papers after filing a case to take over guardianship.

The heartbroken man and his wife have been married for 13 years and he never suspected any foul play.

Read the write-up;

”A 42 year old man killed himself after he discovered that he is not the biological father of his 10 year old daughter that he raised. The man has been married to the mother of the child for 13 years.

This is after the man discovered that he is not the biological father after he saw court papers served to the mother by the biological father who was demanding access to his daughter.

The biological father attached DNA test results…I think he was dumb to kill him self. He should’ve stayed alive to sue for damages this thing cost him for 10yrs. But he was shortsighted.”

Speaking to BBC News Pidgin, Favour, who hails from Idemili Community, Anambra State, said she has known the father of her child for four years.

Favour said they were both living together before she went back to her aunt's house in Anambra state where she eventually gave birth.

Amatobi confessed that the baby was disturbing him with his cry while he was sleeping and he had to try to stop him by battering him with a plastic hanger.

"Upon noticing that he has broken the baby’s hand, he used sticks and rubber bands to bind the broken bones together.

"When l confronted him about what he did, he locked us in the room, to prevent me from telling people about his wicked deed or seek for help. He also collected my phone from me, so that I will not call the neighbours,” she stated.

She narrated how she managed to take the baby to hospitals in the community, which refused to treat the baby, before she took him to Federal Medical Centre Owerri, where the amputation was done.

An Adamawa State High Court has sentenced to death by hanging, one Abubakar Mohammed, 38, convicted of murdering his girlfriend and subsequently harvesting parts of her remains.

Mohammed, a water vendor, reportedly lured one Christiana Augustine with love overtures, only to kill and harvest her eyeballs, tongue and breasts for a N10 million price.

The incident happened around 7:30pm on January 26, 2019 at Shagari Federal Low Cost Housing Estate Phase II, in the Yola South Local Government Area of the state.

While in Adamawa State, he acted as a water vendor around the Shagari Low Cost, a densely populated area experiencing acute short supply of potable water. He accordingly endeared himself to the late Augustine for his free and prompt supply of the essential commodity.

Justice Bulila Ladokiya Ikaro, handed down the sentence on Tuesday after convicting him on a two-count charge of culpable homicide and possession of human parts.

FG tackles UAE over visa ban, flight restriction

The Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele has said the government of Nigeria cannot be threatened by the United Arab Emirates.

This comes after UAE slammed visa and flight restrictions on the country due to the funds of airlines trapped in Nigeria.

Mr Emefiele during an interactive session organized by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, said the CBN released $110 million to the foreign airlines in August and is due to release another $120 million on 31st of October.

It would be recalled that the gulf country has reportedly stopped issuing visas to Nigerians in the past couple of weeks.

Also recall that Emirates is owned by the government of UAE.

The CBN governor said Nigeria has over the years prioritized the foreign airlines in allocation of Fx, adding that instead of bearing with the country, some countries are threatening to ban Nigerians.

“You will be saying either you are cancelling your visa to Nigerians or that you will not fly again because your funds are blocked.

“We used our discretion to allocate $265 million dollars to the foreign airlines, broken down into spot and forward. We did $110 million on the spot and the rest in 60days forward.

“On that day, we allocated to IATA $32 million through UBA. Qatar Airways, $22.8 million through Standard Chartered, Emirates, $19.6 million through Access Bank, British Airway; $5.5million through GTB, Virgin Atlantic, $4.8 million through Zenith and others,” he said.

Reacting to the matter, Boma Goodhead, a lawmaker from Rivers State, said Nigeria has no reason to fret over the visa ban. She stated that the UAE benefits more from Nigeria.

She stated that if the UAE is allowed to stay for one year without tourists from Nigeria, they will change their minds.

Paulos Legesse, Emirates Manager for Nigeria, said the airline is not familiar with the visa ban, however, the country will suspend its operation in Nigeria on October 28 over the inability of the country to retrieve its funds.

Father allegedly beats his 2-month-old son with hanger in Imo for disturbing his sleep, breaks the baby

The National Human Right Commission (NHRC) and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Imo State chapter have called on the Imo State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to immediately arrest and prosecute one Mr Confidence Amatobi, for allegedly assaulting his 2-month-old baby, Miracle.

Mr Amatobi was said to have assaulted little Miracle with a plastic hanger and broke the baby's arm for disturbing his sleep.

The incident led to the amputation of the fractured arm at the Pediatrics ward of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC Owerri.

Father allegedly beats his 2-month-old son with hanger in Imo for disturbing his sleep, breaks the baby

NAWOJ, NHRC and the aggrieved mother of baby Miracle, made the call for justice in Owerri the Imo State Capital.

Imo State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Dr Dorothy Nnaji who spoke to newsmen after visiting the amputated boy at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri, confirmed that the injury inflicted by the 31-year-old father, a native of Amurie in Isu LGA of the state, led to the amputation of the little boy’s right hand.

Mrs Nnaji who frowned at the dastardly cruel act of Mr Amatobi expressed shock that a father could assault his innocent child simply because he was crying and disturbing his sleep.

She disclosed that Mr Amatobi was reported to have repeatedly hit the baby with a plastic hanger to stop him from crying until the right hand broke.

"The perpetrator, Mr. Confidence Amatobi, who hails from Amurie in Isu L.G.A  used a plastic hanger on the baby, simply because he was crying that the mother left to ease herself. He used wood and elastic bands to tie the baby's hand when he saw that hand was broken and swollen," Mrs Nnaji said.

"He locked the mother and baby to prevent  her from talking to neighbours or seeking help. He also took her phone from her. After two days she found her way out and sought help from her neighbours.  The guy  was arrested by a vigilante but he escaped.  By the time help came, the baby's hand was already decayed. The only option was to cut off baby Miracle's right hand from shoulder,"

"I feel for the 20 year old Favor Chikwe who is too young to go through all this stress just because she went to easy herself. I am calling on lmo State Judiciary and all spirited individuals and Government to give justice to this innocent boy whose only crime was that he cried like any other baby." she added.

Similarly, the Imo State Coordinator NHRC, Mrs Ukachi Ukah, while reacting to the incident also condemned the brutality and insisted that justice must be allowed to take its course.

Narrating her ordeal, the mother of Miracle, Mrs Favour Chikwe, 20, who hails from Idemili Community, Anambra State disclosed that she had left Miracle with his father on Friday, October 7, 2022, to use the convenience, when the incident happened.

Favour recalled that she overheard her baby crying uncontrollably and had to rush back to know the cause of her cry only for her to discover that his right hand was swollen and bone broken from the beating he received from his father.

Amatobi, it was learnt, confessed that the baby was disturbing him with his cry while he was sleeping and he had to try to stop him by battering him.

"Upon noticing that he has broken the baby’s hand, he used sticks and rubber bands to bind the broken bones together," she said.

"When l confronted him about what he did, he locked us in the room, to prevent me from telling people about his wicked deed or seek for help. He also collected my phone from me so that I will not call the neighbours."

She narrated how she managed to take the baby to hospitals in the community that refused to treat the baby before she took him to FMC Owerri where the amputation was done.

The woman appealed for support to save her child while calling on the state government, NHRC and other civil society organisations to assist her to get justice for her son.

Terror threats: IGP orders FCT Commissioners to re-strategize security management, launches "Operation Darkin Gaggawa" in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force has reassured Nigerians and all other residents and visitors in the country that it will effectively review the United States of America Embassy in Abuja's security advisory which was issued, widely circulated, and published by the media on October 23rd, 2022, indicating an elevated risk of terror attacks in the country, particularly in the capital city of Abuja.

Both the UK and the US embassies released security advice to their nationals in Nigeria, warning them of a possible terrorist attack in Nigeria, especially the FCT.

A statement released by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, says a review of the advisory is necessary due to the fact that Police, as the lead agency in internal security, will not take any threat intelligence, either actionable or not, for granted; thus, there is no cause for alarm as all hands are on deck to collectively nip threats in the bud.

''The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, CFR, has however ordered the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, heads of tactical squads domiciled in the FCT, and other State Command CPs to re-strategize security management within their jurisdictions, as the Force Headquarters will continually avail them with required support, logistics, and deployments necessary for providing safety to all and sundry in Nigeria. While the NPF will continually work with other security agencies to make every part of Nigeria safe, especially the FCT.

In furtherance of his zeal and strategies to decimate activities of non-state actors and other criminal elements in the FCT and other parts of the country, and to analyze and de-escalate threats gathered from various intelligence at the Force’s disposal, U.S advisory inclusive, the IGP has announced the immediate commencement of a Counter Terrorism Incident Simulation Exercise codenamed "Operation Darkin Gaggawa" will hold within the Force Headquarters and the Police Officers Wives Association School opposite the Force Headquarters, Abuja, between Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th October, 2022.

The exercise will involve diversion of traffic, use of blank ammunition, and other operational manpower and assets, and is designed to improve interoperability and synergy between different Units and Formations of the Force in response to terrorist incidents and other violent crimes. The NPF thereby urges the general public not to panic at the sounds of explosives and gunshots during the exercise.'' the statement in part reads
