The Taliban knocked on her door 3 times. The fourth time, they killed her said the deceased daughter

Najia was at home with her three young sons and daughter in a small village in northern Afghanistan when Taliban fighters knocked on their door.

Najia's daughter Manizha, 25, knew they were coming -- her mother had told her they'd done the same thing the previous three days, demanding that she cook food for up to 15 fighters.
"My mother told them, 'I am poor, how can I cook for you?'" said Manizha. "(The Taliban) started beating her. My mother collapsed and they hit her with their guns -- AK47s."
Manizha said she yelled at the fighters to stop. They paused for a moment before throwing a grenade into the next room and fleeing as the flames spread, she said. The mother-of-four died from the beating.
The deadly July 12 attack on Najia's home in Faryab province was a chilling preview of the threat now facing women across Afghanistan after the Taliban's takeover of the capital Kabul. CNN is using aliases for Najia and Manizha to protect their identity for safety reasons.
In 10 days, Taliban militants captured dozens of provincial capitals left vulnerable by the withdrawal of US and allied troops.
The speed of the militants' advance caught locals off guard.
Some women said they had no time to buy a burqa to comply with Taliban rules that women should be covered up and accompanied by a male relative when they leave the house.
To Afghanistan's women, the flowing cloth represents the sudden and devastating loss of rights gained over 20 years -- the right to work, study, move and even live in peace -- that they fear will never be regained.

The former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, on Monday while reacting to the abduction of Niger Commissioner, Sani Idris, said no Nigerian is safe from kidnappers.

It was earlier reported that the Niger State Information Commissioner was abducted in the early hours of Monday by unknown gunmen.

The former lawmaker while reacting to the incident in a post on Facebook condemned the incident, describing it as tragic.

Sani wrote, “The abduction of the Niger State Commissioner of Information is tragic. This further attests to the fact that no one is safe. My prayers to him and other students of the Tegina Islamic school are are are still in the hands of their abductors.”

“The federal and state governments must wake up and address this consuming danger”.

In other news, the kidnappers responsible for the abduction of a popular nightclub owner in Bayelsa State, Mr. Tari Ajanami have released him.

It was however gathered that the kidnapper abducted his 38-year old wife and 74-year-old father-in-law who came to pay the ransom for his release.

Naija News recalls Ajanami was abducted on Wednesday, July 28 at about 6 pm at his building project site along Otiotio Road in Yenegoa, the state capital.

The kidnappers had demanded the sum of N200 million to release the nightclub owner but the family members took along N15 million to the scene of the exchange.

Tears as colleagues explain how Yabatech graduating student was murdered

Tears flowed freely last week as friends and colleagues of the late Tosin Osatuyi, a final year student of Yabatech College Education, allegedly killed in a fight, narrated how he was murdered.

The Civil Engineering (HND 2) student, popularly known as Moore, was allegedly murdered while celebrating his final examinations on July 28.

Deputy Registrar of the institution, Mr. Joe Ejiofor, had, on Tuesday, disclosed that the fight, which broke out among Osatuyi and his peers, occurred outside the college premises, having concluded their examination and left the vicinity.

But colleagues of the deceased, who gathered on Tuesday evening for a candlelight procession in his memory, said he was gruesomely murdered.

Two of his friends told The Guardian, in confidence, that the incident, which occurred on July 28, was an act of intended murder, which must be investigated.

One said the student died in a fight while celebrating his final examinations at a sports viewing centre known as the Lions’ Den in Tejuosho, Yaba, Lagos.

He said: “On the day after our examinations, he signed on my shirt because we have been friends since our National Diploma (ND) days. After signing, he left with other students to a spot that houses a betting centre, called The Lions’ Den in Yaba.

“It was not long when the news came that he had been murdered. Either by error or not, the action seemed intended and I really don’t know if he and other friends were drunk on that day.”

Another of his friends from the Electrical Electronic Engineering Department said he was a good friend to him and that although the school didn’t approve the candlelight procession, students were forced to hold it in defiance of the school authority on Tuesday.

He added that Osatuyi was injured in the process of celebration, and died when rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where efforts to save his life proved abortive.

According to a report, a colleague said friends of Osatuyi had raised money for an autopsy to be done, but his parents had reportedly rejected the idea.

When The Guardian visited the viewing lounge known as The Lions’ Den last week, the Chief Security Officer stated that nothing happened on the premises and that he was not aware of the incident which claimed the life of a student.

Meanwhile, traders and commercial motorcycle operators in the area confirmed to The Guardian that a fight broke out last week among some students in the lounge, but was not aware if anyone died.

A motorcycle operator said: “This place was not in good shape last week. Everybody ran to different positions because it was a serious fight among youths there. I do not know if later someone died in the fight.”

Another trader said: “We saw people running with bloodstains.”

During a visit to the Deputy Registrar and Head of Public Relations of the institution, Mr. Joe Ejiofor, while commiserating with friends and family of the deceased, he said the school management was not aware of the event that led to his death as the parents of the late Osatuyi had not reported the incident to the school.

When asked if the police had been informed, he said since the incident occurred outside the school premises and no one is sure whether those involved are students of the institution, the management could not take responsibility for the situation.

While he described the incident as tragic and unfortunate, he said the college was a sane environment that did not allow parties on campus to avoid fights or disorderliness.

“We sincerely sympathise with the family of the deceased over the tragic death. It was unfortunate and painful for someone who had toiled to earn a certificate for four years just to die in such circumstances.

“The students, on finishing their examination that day, went celebrating outside. So, the said fight that led to Osatuyi’s death did not happen on the premises. We do not even have control over any activity that goes on outside this place. So, there was no way we could have known how to deal with that because if it is within the school here, we do not allow people to drink.

“After examinations, you will see our security men patrolling the whole campus because we know students are hyperactive. We allow them to sing and dance, but do not allow them to do that on top of their voices,” he said.

Meanwhile, he revealed that some students had approached the Dean of Students Affairs, Mr. Tunji Balogun, seeking permission to organise a candlelight procession in honour of the deceased, which was turned down. He said he was not aware that a candlelight procession was later held.

The deceased, an Ondo indigene, who was buried on July 30 in his hometown, was the class governor of the graduating Civil Engineering students of the institution.

Ghanaian fraudster Tourey Ahmed Rufai extradited to the U.S.

A Ghanaian fraudster, Tourey Ahmed Rufai who fled to Ghana after he was sentenced to four years in prison, has been extradited to the United States on Friday to serve his sentence.

The former Bronx resident was arrested in Ghana on 14 April, before he was extradited on 6 August.

Audrey Strauss, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, along with other officials, announced Rufai’s extradition.

His gang targeted elderly victims from at least 2014 through 2018.

According to court filings in Manhattan Federal Court:

Between 2014 and 2018, RUFAI, was a member of a criminal enterprise, based in Ghana that was involved in defrauding more than 100 American businesses and individuals of more than $10 million through business email compromises and romance scams.

RUFAI and his co-conspirators received or otherwise directed the receipt of millions of dollars in fraud proceeds from victims of the Enterprise in bank accounts that they controlled in the Bronx, New York.

Some of these bank accounts were opened using fake names, stolen identities, or shell companies in order to avoid detection and hide the true identities of the members of the Enterprise controlling those accounts.

Once the defendants received the fraud proceeds in bank accounts under their control, the defendants withdrew, transported, and laundered those fraud proceeds to other members of the Enterprise, including those located in Ghana.

RUFAI, 33, was released on bail shortly after his arrest on January 9, 2018, on conditions including a $150,000 bond co-signed by three individuals, surrender of all travel documents, and home detention with electronic monitoring through an ankle bracelet but still fled to Ghana.

2023: Bamgbose Reveals Buhari’s ‘Plan’ To Release Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho

The National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, Olusegun Bamgbose, has disclosed that he has credible information that President Muhammadu Buhari is planning to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, soon.

The Lagos based lawyer said the plan to release the separatists is because of the 2023 general elections.

Bamgbose while speaking with Daily Post said the clampdown on the IPOB leader and Yoruba activist will soon be over.

“There are strong underground moves both within and outside the country to discontinue the charges against them.”

“Unknown to many Nigerians, some very close allies of President Buhari have strongly advised him to handle their cases wisely because of the 2023 general elections,” he said.

The lawyer claimed that the President has told his allies that clamping down on the agitators will affect the All Progressives Congress in 2023.

It’s obvious from the body language of the President that he will yield to their advice. Another aspect of it is that some Southern Governors are equally secretly negotiating soft ground for the embattled agitators,” he added.

“They are not making it public for obvious reasons. There is also the pressure from International Community to release them soon. In order words, both agitators may soon regain their freedom, hopefully before the end of the year.

“Some top politicians think that considering that 2022 will be the kickstart of the electioneering campaign for the 2023 general elections, it will be ideal to release them this year.

“However, of major concern is the continued violence in the South East. The government seems to be closely monitoring events in South East.

“There are plans to release Igboho to continue his journey to Germany and later release Nnamdi Kanu to southeast Governors and Ohaneze, but on condition that he will stay back in Nigeria.

“The plans are good but the primary thing President Buhari should do is to ensure fairness to all zones in the country. He is not to be seen as representing the interest of a clan or region.

“He was not elected by a particular section of Nigeria. There must be nothing like marginalization in any form. The votes of his clan or region could not have made him the President of Nigeria.

“In the 2011 Presidential elections, he got 12 million votes, the majority of which came from the North, but he lost to Jonathan. He won in 2015 because the South supported him. In other words, he should be more nationalistic in his approach to national issues,” he said.

The Anambra State Government has said it will not pay August salary to any worker who abstains from duty in obedience to the sit-at-home directives by the Indigenous People of Biafra.

“All Hon. Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries are to monitor and report compliance, please.

” Kindly give this information the widest publicity in your Establishment.”
