Suspected Yahoo boy kills his twin brother in Delta state

A suspected Yahoo boy, who allegedly killed his twin brother at Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Locala Government Area, Delta State, has been arrested by police operatives.

Though the reason for the killing could not be ascertained at press time, sources said it might have been carried out for ritual purposes.

The suspect, it was gathered, was found with a dog and the decomposing body of the deceased in their apartment at Old Olomoro Road, Monday, after neighbors perceived a offensive smell emanating from the flat.

“The house was locked for some days and after some time, the people living in the compound began to perceive foul smell that attracted flies around the apartment.

“The neighbors then alerted the police at the Oleh divisional headquarters. The door was forced open and they found him sitting close to the decomposing body of his twin brother. A dog was also found in the house,” a source, who craved anonymity, said.

The source said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited in a mortuary in the area while the suspect and his dog were arrested by the police.
Confirming the incident, yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr Bright Edafe, said the police had commenced investigation into the matter.

He, however, added that “For now, there is no evidence that it was for ritual purpose. When they broke into the house, they saw the decomposing body and the twin brother.”

Man kills roommate, sells body parts to pastor for rituals – Police

A 34-year-old man, Okpegboro Avwerosuo, has allegedly killed his roommate in Sagbama Town, Sagbama Local Government Area, SALGA, of Bayelsa.

Mr Okpegboro was alleged to have sold the deceased’s vital organs to a pastor in Port Harcourt, who is currently at large, for ritual purposes.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the story.

Mr Butswat said that the suspect, who hails from Ugheli North Local Government Area of Delta, was being detained at the   state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

He said that the name of the victim had yet to be known.

According to a neighbour who pleaded anonymity, the suspect invited the deceased, his friend, to Sagbama to join the motorcycle riding business, assuring him that the business is flourishing in the town.

The boom in the transport business is because of patronage by students as the Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro College of Education, IJBCOE, is located the town.

NAN gathered that the deceased had spent barely two weeks in the town when Okpegboro struck him on the skull with a pestle in the night and killed him.

The neighbor further explained that “after killing him, he dismembered the body, preserved the vital organs and put the other parts in separate sacks which he disposed off in the early hours of the following day.’’

He said that while disposing the sacks, another neighbour who saw him and suspected his movement confronted him and demand to know the whereabouts of his roommate.

“The suspect claimed that the deceased has travelled back to Delta State for an urgent business. Not satisfied with his response, the neighbour forced his way into the room and saw blood stains everywhere.

The President of SALGA Federated Youth Council Worldwide, Mr Preye Casey, in a statement, condemned the killing of the young man.

Casey urged the youth of Sagbama to be on alert to checkmate the activities of non-indigenes in the town as security tension continued to rise across the country.

“Just yesterday, the decomposing body of a young man was discovered in the bush with several parts of the body already butchered into pieces and placed in sack bags.

“The Nigeria Police, Sagbama Division, was alerted and it led to the arrest of a young man in Sagbama Federated Community, suspected to have been the perpetrator of the ungodly act.’’

He condemned the act and called on Sagbama youths to be vigilant as they went about their normal activities, especially in the wake of the rising insecurity level in the country.

The president, therefore, appealed to the security agencies to find out those behind the murder of the young man.

How Innocent Women Were Killed During Attack On Imo Police Station

Two women lost their lives during the invasion of the Orji Divisional Police Headquarters in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Tuesday.

Daily Trust had reported how gunmen shot sporadically during the attack on the police station.

Our correspondent gathered that the women were killed by stray bullets.

One of them was said to be frying bean cake known as akara by the roadside when she was hit by bullets.

Videos trending on social media showed the gunmen being hailed by youth as they brandished their guns.

Five of the attackers were later arrested, according to the police.

In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bala Elkana, said the attack on the station was foiled.

“Some hoodlums in their numbers launched an offensives on the reconstruction site of Orji Divisional Headquarters which was earlier burnt by hoodlums during the End SARS protest  in 2020.

“The hoodlums, who believed that the re-establishment of a functional police station may prevent them from carrying out their nefarious acts in Orji and environs, decided to invade the construction site.

“Before the arrival of reinforcement team, the hoodlums melted into the neighbouring townships area but abandoned their operational vehicles. The Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc personally led an enforcement team to the scene.

“The whole area was cordoned and five suspects  were arrested. No life was lost. Three vehicles were recovered,” the statement read.

He said mop up operation is ongoing to arrest more suspects and recover their firearms.

Man found alive in Bayelsa forest with hands and legs tied after being attacked by unknown assailants (photos)

 

One Tama Ozigbo, who was thought to be dead by his attackers has been found alive inside a forest in Bayelsa State.

According to Facebook user, Afririki Mieseta, who disclosed this on Monday, May 24, the victim, a security personnel was beaten to pulp by six unknown men suspected to be robbers and then dumped in the forest with his hands and feet tied after they presumed him dead.

“This is Tama Ozigbo from Bulou-orua community in sagbama local Government Area of Bayelsa State, He was Beaten lifeless by 6 Men that came to steal from a Cat Machine by 3am on Friday night which they thought He is Dead & he was Dumped in a Forest hand & legs been tied,” Mieseta stated.

“He Happens to be a Security Personnel Securing a Caterpillar Machine along Sagbama/ Ekeremor Road (Bulou/Orua). But, to the Glory of God. He is taking Medical Treatment. Calling on the Security Agency’s to do something about this Barbaric act & Bring those involved to Book. Be security conscious and report any suspicious movement around your Area.”

JUST IN: Suicide bomber blows off self in Ebonyi

A suicide bomber has reportedly blown off himself in Afikpo town, Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The suspected suicide bomber had attempted to gain entrance into the Amaizu/ Amangballa Primary School to detonate the bomb, but was prevent from doing so.

The incident reportedly occurred around 12.00pm on Tuesday.

A source told The Nation that the suicide bomber made an attempt at entering Amaizu/ Amangballa Primary School but was turned back by the school security since he couldn’t justify his reason for visiting.

“He immediately started running inside a nearby bush before a big bang was heard,” he said.

Commissioner for Internal Security, Stanley Okoro confirmed the incident but noted that he was yet to get details of what happened.

The upper part of the suspected suicide bomber’s body was completely destroyed from the impact of the bomb.

Residents scampered to safety when the bomb exploded and later regrouped to see what has happened.

S3x workers in Zimbabwe now accepting maize, cups of beans as payment due to pandemic

Covid-19 has hit s3x workers in Zimbabwe hard to the extent of accepting buckets of maize and cups of beans as payment from their also cash-strapped male clients.

The s3x workers said the ‘barter trade’ had also created problems for their clients as the men usually steal the ‘payment’ from family granaries.

The female s3x workers’ plight has also been worsened as nightclubs and bars remain closed due to strict Covid-19 national lockdown restrictions.

Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com at Dema growth point in Seke rural, about 37km east of Harare, s3x workers appealed to the government and other organisations for low-interest loans to start income-generating projects to fend for starving families than relying on prostitution.

“Gone are the days when we used to charge clients for $US5 for the whole night. These days even one dollar is accepted so that you are able to buy vegetables and tomatoes and cook something for your starving children,” one of the s3x workers, who only identified herself as Alice, said.

“I have three children; one is doing Form 4. The child needs ZIMSEC (Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council) registration fees. The other is in Grade 7 and one is in Grade One. So you can see my predicament.”

“I now even accept a bucket of maize or cups of dried beans as payment for sex services. At least I am assured that my kids will have porridge.

“We appeal from well-wishers, including government to assist us to start income-generating projects. Our children are going to sleep at night on empty stomachs.”

Another s3x worker, Mavis said she could have opted to be a house helper but the local people do not pay.

“We tried this (domestic work) but the bosses do not pay. I once worked for five months with promises to be paid, but I left empty-handed,” she said.
“So, if we can get loans with low-interest rates, we can start our own projects and be able to look after our children.”

The s3x workers, who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com were attending a Key Affected Populations (KAP) workshop meant to reduce HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) infections.

My late husband dreamt of plane crash a day earlier – Pilot’s widow

Jennifer Olufade, the widow of Flt Lt Alfred Olufade, the pilot of the ill-fated aircraft that killed 11 military officers, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, in Kaduna on Friday, said the late pilot dreamt of the crash a day earlier.

Jennifer, who got married to the late pilot three months ago, disclosed this in an emotion-laden tribute to her husband which she posted on her Instagram page, @joba_star, on Monday.
She said she prayed with her husband when he woke up and narrated the bad dream to her.

She added that after the dream, her husband made successful trips to Enugu and Owerri and returned to Abuja.
Jennifer said when she received a message from him that they were again heading to Kaduna, she tried reaching him to dissuade him from embarking on the trip but without success.

She wrote, “Oh sparkle, you left me so early. Oh, my best friend, where do I start from? I am broken and pierced, my heart aches. This wasn’t what you promised me; you said you will always be there for me.

“On 20th of May, at about 4am, you woke me up with fear and said ‘baby, baby, I had a bad dream. I dreamt that I crashed on my way to Kaduna.’ You said it looked very real. I prayed for you seriously that morning and asked you not to worry and asked you your mission order and who you were flying with and you told me Flt. Lt Asaniyi.

“I said ‘don’t worry, you will go and come back.’ You went to Enugu, Owerri and back to Abuja. We did video call and also spoke at length and you were just smiling. Little did I know that was your last smile.

“The next message I received was that you were going to Kaduna. My heart shattered, I smelt danger, I started calling you, you didn’t pick. Why didn’t you pick? Why? I wanted begging you not to go.

“These three months have been heaven for me. We eat together in the same plate, we prayed together, we laughed and cried together. This wasn’t the plan you had for me.

“You said you will always be my side. It is still like a dream that I can’t see you. I know you are coming back to me. All I see is condolence messages. How do I stand them? Reading them pierces my heart even more.

“I feel like a failure, I couldn’t stop you, I couldn’t stop Asaniyi, oh my God, Oh My God. You saw this.

Similarly, a childhood friend of late Olufade, Esther David, in an interview with The Punch, described the late pilot as a gentle and easy going man.

“He was my very good friend. We were close, very close. I am still in shock; I wish it is all a dream. I haven’t been able to sleep since Friday,” she said.

The dead body of a missing man was found trapped inside a giant dinosaur stature.

They said: “We have no reason to believe that his death is criminal. We think he got stuck in the leg after dropping something.”

Zimbabwe chief orders Mugabe remains exhumed, reburied

 

A traditional chief in Zimbabwe has ordered the exhumation of Robert Mugabe’s remains and their reburial at the national heroes’ shrine in Harare after accusing the late leader’s wife of breaking local custom by interring him at his rural home in 2019.

Mugabe, who was removed in a coup that brought Emmerson Mnangagwa to power in November 2017, was buried in the courtyard of his home at his village of Kutama after weeks of dispute with President Mnangagwa’s government over his final resting place.

A traditional chief in the Zvimba district, which includes Kutama, said he had received a complaint from a Mugabe clan member over the manner of his burial.

After presiding over a village court last week, Chief Stanly Wurayayi Mhondoro on Monday issued a ruling that found Grace Mugabe guilty of breaking traditional norms by burying her husband in his home.

In his ruling, the chief said the late Mugabe “shall be exhumed and reburied at the National Heroes Acre in Harare within 30 days or before the 1st of June 2021”.

“You are also ordered to gather clothes and all his belongings and surrender them on or before the 1st of July,” the ruling added.

Grace Mugabe, who did not attend the hearing, was fined five cows and a goat. The former first lady was also ordered to provide compensation to the workers who would be tasked with exhuming and reburying the remains of her husband.

Leo Mugabe, the late president’s nephew and spokesman for the family, immediately rejected the ruling.

“He (chief) has no jurisdiction over Kutama. And even if the correct chief had made that ruling we would have appealed to the court,” Leo Mugabe told Reuters news agency.

Chiefs in Zimbabwe have jurisdiction over their local subjects but it is rare for them to order families to exhume bodies for reburial.

The chief’s order will likely rekindle a row over Mugabe’s final resting place.

Mnangagwa had pushed for Mugabe to be buried at the monument for liberation war heroes, but the family refused, saying Mugabe had expressed fears to close family members before his death that some of the people who removed him would seek to conduct a traditional ritual with some of his body parts.

Mugabe, who ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years, died on September 6, 2019, at the age of 95.

Benue State reject FG’s proposed ranching plans

Benue State government on Tuesday said it has no land for cattle grazing routes as proposed by the Nigerian Government.

“While we may not stop the Federal Government’s plan to rehabilitate grazing reserves or create cattle routes in other states, we wish to make it clear that no land in Benue State has been gazetted for grazing routes, grazing reserves, cattle colonies and Ruga settlements,” Benue State Government said in a statement.

“Benue is therefore not part of the grazing reserves rehabilitation programme of the Federal Government.”

The state government’s statement was in reaction to the position of the Federal Government on cattle ranching.

Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu on Monday opposed the ban on open grazing of cattles by Southern governors, saying the move was unconstitutional.

Shehu faulted the southern governors who, he said, did not provide an alternative to banning the open grazing method to stop farmers and herders crisis in Nigeria.

The presidential spokesman noted that the Federal Government will implement national programme for cattle ranching in all states.

But Benue State Government said it does not support the idea.

“We expect the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to weigh the negative consequences its recommendation will have on the unity and security of the nation and advise Mr President that Nigerians are not on the same page with him regarding the matter of open grazing. It is not too late to salvage the situation,” the government said.

The Benue State government described the federal government’s move as shocking and called for a national dialogue.

The government noted that at a time the country is battling worsening security situation, many Nigerians are calling for national dialogue to address the fundamental issues that have led to the present state of affairs in Nigeria.

“It is now clear that there is a hidden agenda which only the Presidency knows,” Benue government said.

“Otherwise, all the regions of the country have accepted the fact that open grazing of animals is no longer fashionable and should be banned to pave way for ranching, yet, the government at the centre is insistent that grazing reserves/cattle routes must be created across the country.

“As it stands, the Presidency is the lone hand pushing for the continuation of open grazing and the return of cattle routes of 1950s and 60s. The Presidency has, by its endorsement of open grazing, emboldened armed herders who lay claim to all lands in Nigeria as belonging to Fulani.”
