Jonathan Releases N5b to Buy Cooking Stoves for Rural Women

President Goodluck Jonathan has released N5 billion to the Ministry of Environment for the purchase of clean cook stoves for rural women, a project which is expected to gulp N9.2 billion.

UN General Assembly Convenes In New York
Minister of Environment Laurentia Mallam, who said this yesterday, added that the President will inaugurate the project today.

Mrs. Mallam said the stoves will be distributed to women in the rural areas through the state ministries of environment.

According to her, the contractor, Messrs Integra Renewable Energy Services Limited, has been given N1.3 billion from the N5 billion released by the Federal Government.

She spoke during an inspection visit to the Velodrome at the National Stadium, Abuja, where some of the 750,000 stoves were being assembled.

The minister added that clean cook stoves will help to discourage the use of firewood for cooking, which she said is one of the causes of desertification in the North.

She said: “We started in the northern parts of the country because of the challenges we are facing there with the desert encroaching into the country and people still cut down trees.

“Now, the President wants it to spread throughout the country and so we have this project.

“The ministry has received N5 billion so far. You know when N9.2 billion was approved by the Federal Government last year, we told Nigerians that N9.2 billion has been approved by the Federal Government.

But so far, N5 billion has been released to the ministry.

“We have given the contractor 15 per cent, which is N1.3 billion. That is what we have released to the contractor and we still have N3.7 billion in the ministry’s account.”

Mrs. Mallam added that by 2020, most women in the rural areas will have access to the stoves.

Kylie Jenner: Soaking and Seductive on Instagram

Kylie Jenner is using her possibly fake boobs to celebrate the fake start of summer.

With talk circulating around the Internet of a Kylie Jenner boob job, the reality star didn't do much to quell that chatter by posting a couple new photos online during Memorial Day Weekend.

In each image, the 16-year old is wearing jeans while in the pool for some reason, showing off her cleavage and rocking a seductive expression.

Kylie simply mentioned the Twitter handles of her glam team as a caption to the photos, letting followers use their imagination for how they'd wish to describe these poses.

Before you go ahead and get too creative, remember: Kylie Jenner is 16 years old.
We shudder to think that she's actually gotten her breasts enhanced already, but we also can't exactly take her word for it.

Jenner spent months claiming her lips were 100% real... only to eventually admit that she uses temporary lip fillers.

It's almost as if you can't believe anything about this famous family at all, huh? Shocking, we know.

How Boko Haram Burnt My Family Memebers Alive: Survivor

A Boko Haram survivor currently residing at Mararaba Gurku near Abuja, James Yaduma, tells Leadership how he lost almost all his family members in one fell swoop to the rampaging Boko Haram insurgents who struck his Zha community of Hong Local Government in Adamawa State about 7 months ago.

Yaduma, who was a farmer before he was sent packing from his village, has since started a new vocation in his new found abode to keep body and soul together by scooping sand in a nearby stream and disposing it to builders of houses as the place is a beehive of construction.

In his narration of what he suffered, Yaduma said life for him will never be the same since the gory and unfortunate incidence occurred, having witnessed how his aged father, mother and other relatives were burnt alive by Boko Haram insurgents.
“They struck our village in the wee hours of that fateful Friday and started shooting indiscriminately leading to the death of many residents.
“My aged parents, who could not run for dear lives, were trapped in our family house where the insurgents met them, set a bonfire and threw them inside alive,” he narrated.
Yaduma noted that among his family members who were at home when the insurgents struck, only him was lucky to escape by a hair’s breadth, having tucked himself in an obscure part of the house.
“When I started hearing gun shots, I instantly knew that Boko Haram had struck our village having taken over Mubi and other parts of the state. Since they took over Mubi, we could not sleep anymore as we knew very soon our village will come under attack,” he said.
He added that since he managed to escape the onslaught, he trekked for three weeks inside the surrounding bushes without knowing his bearing until he met some cattle rearers who accommodated him for few a days before showing him the way.
“After I escaped, I set out to Abuja since I know I have relatives here. I trekked most of the distance from Hong to Abuja but at intervals some spirited motorists do offer some help after hearing my ordeal,” he said.
He noted that the sand he sells fetches him between N5,000 – N7,000 weekly, just as he appealed to the President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari to do his best to secure Nigeria without prejudices as he said there is nothing like peace, noting that he is in his present state due to absence of peace.
“I am appealing to President- elect, whom I believe is an upright man to do all within his power to restore peace in Nigeria as many people have been made to suffer unnecessarily, having lost their lives and properties to the insurgency.
“Some of us want to return back to our villages but we cannot do so; all our houses, businesses and farms have been destroyed,” he said.

XENOPHOBIA: NANS WARNS SOUTH AFRICAN PRESIDENT TO STAY AWAY FROM NIGERIA

The National Association of Nigerian Students has advised South African President, Jacob Zuma, to stay away from the inauguration of the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

The organization also threatened to storm the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, should Zuma step into the country’s airport.

According to the association, Zuma should keep off as his visit will be an insult to the sensibility of Nigerians over his alleged poor handling of the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other migrant foreigners in South Africa.

A statement by NANS President, Tijani Usman, noted that Zuma’s inability to “apologize to Nigerians like he did to Mozambique”, despite the sacrifices the country made for South Africa, was unfortunate.

He said, “We wish to advise the South African President (Jacob Zuma) to rather stay at home and address burning issues, rather than embarking on a visit that is the least desirable.

“The South African President’s failure to apologize to Nigeria for the losses the country and our citizens incurred during the xenophobic attacks on foreigners leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. There is therefore, no point felicitating with a people who clearly do not matter much to you. President Zuma’s visit will only amount to pretence.”

NANS further restated its earlier position that it will henceforth not hesitate to clamp down on South African investments in the country should any incident of xenophobic attacks recur.

So Touching: A Man Took Poison and Died Because He Did Not Want to Become a Burden on Loved Ones

Jeffrey Spector feared that at any moment he could become paralysed from the neck down. He did not want to become a burden on loved ones so, despite the pleas of his wife and children, the businessman, 54, decided to kill himself.

Before he took his life at the Dignitas assisted suicide clinic, the keep-fit fanatic said:
“I am going before my time but I am not scared.I believe what I am doing is in the best long-term interests of my family. They disagree with that of course but they accept I have my own opinion.”
His wife, Elaine, 53, and daughters Keleigh, 21, Courtney, 19, and Camryn, 15, were with him at the clinic near the Swiss city of Zurich. In a statement, the family said they backed Jeffrey’s decision to die “100%”.
They were all pictured together, smiling through the pain, as they shared a final meal with friends, the day before he swallowed the poison that killed him.
His final days were captured by a film crew, which will produce a video tribute for his wife and girls.

Hours before his death, the dad-of-three, who had lived with the tumour for six years, said:
“I wanted control of the final stages of my life.I was a fit and healthy person and my life has been turned upside down. What started as backache in 2008 soon developed into an illness which led me to having to make this most awful decision.Friends and, most of all, my family have urged me not to go through with it.”
He added:
“I was always a very fit person and loved sport. It was when I collapsed at a London hotel with a sore back and stiff neck I should have realised something was badly wrong.I just thought I had overdone things.I had gone to London for a retirement party and my legs went in the hotel room. I got back home and booked in for an MRI scan. The phone call from the clinic afterwards asked me to go back for another scan which revealed a large tumour high up in my spine. It was in and around the spinal cord.My surgeon was confident he could remove the tumour but tests revealed it would be too dangerous.
“I looked at different forms of radiotherapy and finally underwent surgery in 2009.He did not even attempt to remove the tumour because it was too dangerous.I woke up thinking it would be out but he told me he could not even take a biopsy.”
The tumour, which could not be removed, meant Jeffrey faced the prospect of being paralysed.
He told friends that he was a “walking timebomb” because paralysis could strike at any time. Jeffrey had surgery to relieve some pressure from his spine. It offered a little relief but the tumour had continued to grow.Jeffrey said:
“Had it been lower down the spine and I lost the use of my legs I would have been distraught but I could cope.Where it was meant total paralysis from my neck down. The condition got worse and I made my decision to go to Dignitas. I know I am going too early but I had consistent thoughts without peer pressure. It had to be a settled decision by a sound mind. If I am paralysed and cannot speak what hope is there?Send me to the spirit world. I am a proud person, a dignified person, independent and self-motivated. It is me who is doing this.”
The director of several advertising and internet companies said:
“I want my family to have a good life.I want them to move forwards. If they cared for me and I got better – fine. But I won’t.Some people will criticise me but do not judge me. Never judge anyone unless you have worn their shoes.
“I believe in my human right to dignity. I want the ability to have a cup of tea and hold a phone. I want to be able to do those things myself.”
After saying goodbye to his heartbroken family, his final moments swallowing a dose of barbiturate were filmed at Dignitas as evidence it was not administered by staff.
Within five minutes he lapsed into a coma then died. He was cremated in Switzerland.
His wife and daughters flew back to Britain after his death on Friday.
