FOREIGNERS FLOCK TO NIGERIA FOR PROPHET T.B. JOSHUA’S BIRTHDAY

Despite the picture painted by international media, it appears the pull of a Nigerian Pastor has surpassed the fear of Boko Haram when it comes to tourism in Nigeria.

The scene at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Thursday 12th June 2014 was lively.

The steady stream of foreign arrivals, smiling happily and waving national flags, bore no semblance with the international travel warnings leveled at Nigeria, largely due to the terrorist activities of Islamic insurgent group Boko Haram.

When this reporter inquired as to the reason of the exotic influx, the answer from various individuals and airport employees was unanimous – Nigeria’s controversial yet celebrated pastor, T.B. Joshua, who turned 51 today.

“In fact, the entire flight from South Africa was filled with T.B. Joshua visitors,” a SAA employee told me on the condition of anonymity. “It was the same thing yesterday too. Southern Africa can’t seem to get enough of the pastor.”

Officials at the airport I spoke to reckoned that almost 5,000 foreigners had arrived in Nigeria over the last few days to attend Joshua’s church and felicitate with him.

“Nearly 50 Russians arrived today,” one of the ground staff told me. “It was Americans and Brits yesterday, not to mention those that came from Zimbabwe and Zambia; they must have reached more than 500. They all came to visit Synagogue.”

According to recent statistics from the Nigerian Immigration Service six out of every ten foreign travellers coming into Nigeria are bound for The Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN).

The scene at the airport certainly attested to this, the majority of people wearing t-shirts emblazoned with the logo of Joshua’s popular television station Emmanuel TV.

“T.B. Joshua is probably the greatest tourist attraction Nigeria has ever produced,” a taxi driver named Ibrahim who plies his trade at the airport reckoned. “I take people from the airport to Synagogue everyday but this last week especially has been busier than ever.”

The cleric, however, has played down the event, telling followers on Sunday that he would not be celebrating his birthday with any special ceremony.

He stated the current security situation in Nigeria did not reflect the need for any ostentatious festivity, adding that he feels what people in society are feeling.

Joshua encouraged congregants to remember his birthday by praying for their nation, stating that the ‘birthday gift’ he is asking from God is the release of the over 200 girls kidnapped in Chibok over a month ago.

T.B. Joshua was born on June 12th 1963 in a humble home in Arigidi, Ondo State, Nigeria. He is best known for his prophecies, miracles and charitable activities, as well as his online influence.

A Facebook post on Joshua’s official page wishing the cleric happy birthday had already attracted more than 50,000 comments from well-wishers worldwide as at the time of filing this report.

Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh, who earlier stated that Joshua's prayers helped end her 14 year smoking addiction, was among those who congratulated the pastor via her Instagram account.

In the wake of mourning, daughter of veteran Nollywood producer, director, writer, teacher and mentor, Amaka Igwe, Ruby Igwe, has sent a heartfelt message to her mother, who passed away on Saturday, 29th April, 2014.

In her message, Ruby describes her mum as the one who was always ready to listen to whatever she has to say and would be readily available to proffer solutions.

“I am still waiting for your call back. My phone doesn't ring as often anymore. I miss you.

I miss your yelling at me many times. I miss saying good morning and good night from wherever in the world we both are.

I miss arguing with you, I miss laughing with you. I miss calling you when something amazing or horrifying happens. You would be the one I would be calling right now.

I met you nineteen years ago, and I fell in love. You were my very best friend, and there isn't anyone to tell the things I tell you, or do the things I only do with you, anymore.

I am consoled because I know that you are safe, and happy. You lived an amazing life, a brilliant, trailblazing, pioneering, unique, humble, and joyous life. You were awesome, you loved, and you were loved.

I know that I will be okay, and I will live and love and be loved. I know that I will see you again and you will say, “Nne o, Ruboyibo, Nkennayerem, the special.” You will tell me everything.

I am happy because you made memories to last me until I see you again, memories I will remember and smile about, memories I will remind dad, David and Dani about, memories that will never fade.

I am trusting God that we will be fine. I know that with God, we will do great and marvelous things, even in this land of the living.
There isn't a lot for me to write or say. But I know you know that I’ll be okay. So am left with no other option but to be strong with God, look unto Jesus and be the best I can be.

When I get to heaven, we’ll have a lot of catching up to do.

Until then....

Awwww! so touching *sobbing*
May God rest her soul!

According to the head of world Catholics, he hopes the world cup which takes place once in four years will be played in a spirit of fraternity and fair play, and be a sign of solidarity among people.

"My hope is that, besides being a sporting feast, the World Cup can become a feast of solidarity among peoples," he said in the message.
"Sport is a school of peace. It teaches us to build peace."
The pope is an honorary member of the club nicknamed the Saints of Boedo for the barrio where they were founded by a group of young men that included a priest in 1908.
Host country, Brazil will take to the field against Croatia in the opening match of the football showpiece.

Top 5 Valuable Nigerian Artistes

Fortune may have smiled on them. But they’ve worked their socks off! With their abilities, doggedness and ingenuity, these artistes have worked their way to the top.

They’re the top 5 highest paid in the industry…

NO 5 - DAVIDO
Davido
He may have caused a scene at the Babcock Convocation, but it’s not hard to imagine. At just 21 years of age, Davido is charting a new course. He has proven wrong those critics who attributed his success to the financial muscle of his father, by pointing to his abilities instead. And with the MTV double awards last weekend, he may be scoring more points. However, one certainty about Davido is that he knows how to get your body moving. And he does it with such ease. Apart from managing his own HKN label, the Aye crooner pockets nothing less than N3 million per show. And there are few artistes in Nigeria that commands that much.
NO 4 - WIZKID
Wizkid
With Starboy, Wizkid has emerged stronger and even better. Arguably one of the finest in the industry, Wizkid readily laces any beat into a hit. Just when you think he may struggle to equal his earlier success, he proves you wrong. Not once. But again and again. Little wonder he collects nothing less than N4million per show.
NO 3 -TUFACE
2 Face
His studio album, Grass to Grace may have rubbed off on him. It is debatable though, but Tuface remains the industry’s finest vocalist. A popular demand, even among fellow artistes, he remains a force to reckon with. Fondly dubbed TUBABA for his amazing vocals, Tuface smiles home with N5 million, just for an appearance.
NO 2- D’BANJ
D'banj
He may have split with Don Jazzy, but he’s not finished. No. Not yet. He has embraced the agriculture campaign but music remains his first love. The Koko singer remains one of the highly valued artistes, and does not perform for anything below N6million.
NO 1-PSQUARE
P-Square
Their new single, Testimony could not have echoed their success any better. From the skinny twins that greeted us in the wave of 2001 to the celebrated duo that now stand before Kings, these brothers are the biggest! Any show they’re billed to perform is usually sold out. And they don’t come cheap. No. Per show, the twins pocket N15 million.
