Aliko Dangote, President/ Chief Executive Officer Dangote Group is Africa’s richest man with a net worth of about $21Billion according to forbes magazine.



The business mogul, who was born on April 10, 1957, is a graduate of Business Studies from the Al-Azahar University, Cairo, Egypt. He was the former President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). He started business in 1978 trading in rice, sugar and cement, before he ventured into full-scale manufacturing.
Dangote, who now controls huge holdings of commodities comprising; real estate as well as telecommunications projects has certain secretes that the public doesn’t know about him.

Below are the nine things you should know about him; 

1. Dangote, who has been a businessman since he was a child, buys boxes of sweets and sells them at a profit to his fellow classmates while he was in primary school in the 1960s. He started the Dangote Group at the age of 21 after studying business at the University of Cairo.
2. Dangote, who opened a Twitter account- social network on New Year’s Eve of 2013, currently has more than 50,000 followers. He uses his tweets to address malnutrition, the Davos economic conference, and entrepreneurship although no selfies for the now. 
3. Despite the business mogul’s tight schedule, he frequently engages himself in jogging sessions, according to him: “Exercise is better than any medicine I can take. Exercise and sleep”.
4. According to Brian Browne, former U.S. Consul General to Nigeria, Dangote receives special treatment from the federal government in the form of exclusive import rights while high taxes or bans are imposed on competitors’ imports, a claim he, however, refuted and alleged that he only maintained friendships with elected official.
5. The Africa’s richest man is a philanthropist.  Through his Dangote Foundation, more than 10 billion naira has been donated to fight poverty in the country. Aside business grants, the foundation usually sends cash transfers to women and children who suffers the worst effects of poverty in order to alleviate their plight.
6. Dangote has unbelievably survived multiple plane crashes. He has so far successfully walked away from three plane crashes. One of those crashes was responsible for the death of Dangote’s brother and the son of late General Sani Abacha, in 1996.
7. Dangote is not the first wealthy person in his family as his great grandfather, Alhassan Dantata, was probably the richest man in West Africa as at then.
8. Dangote’s main attention is on his Nigerian homeland as he is very dedicated to building up the country aside owning holding companies all over Africa.

Akunyili’s Body Received In Abuja

The remains of the immediate-past Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili, were received at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Wednesday evening by a few family members and political associates.

The reception team was led by the immediate-past Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, who assured that Akunyili will be given a burial befitting her status and fame.

Akunyili’s body was flown to Nigeria in a private aircraft from India. It was accompanied by her husband, Dr. Chike Akunyili and her younger brother, Dr. Anayo Edemobi.

The remains were subsequently conveyed to a mortuary in Abuja in an Ambulance written Nigerian-Turkish Nizamiye Hospital.

Obi said the next thing was for a programme for her burial to be drawn up, assuring several stakeholders will make their input to the programme in close collaboration with her family.

The former governor described Akunyili as an uncommon Nigerian, who made all possible sacrifices for the health of the country and her people.

“Those who visit the social media told me that Akunyili was one prominent Nigerian that all comments about her on social media were pouring of encomiums on a life lived for others amidst genuine regrets about her demise.

“These show us all that she was a wonderful woman that should be seen as a role model by us all. To show you the depth of her love for Nigeria, when I visited her in India, she was full of concern for challenges facing our country and appealed for the release of Chibok girls and prayed for God to strengthen President Goodluck Jonathan in his resolve and efforts to lead the country aright,” Obi said.

Those that joined Obi at the airport to receive her body are Rev. Dr. Williams Okoye, former Aso Rock Chaplain; Mr. Chidi Agbapu; Ejike Imoka; Mrs. Uche Ekwunife; Chuma Nzeribe; Chinwendu Iloh; among many other admirers and well-wishers.

Akunyili, former NAFDAC DG and Federal Minister of Information and Communications died in Indian Specialist Cancer Hospital on Saturday, June 7, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Homos Are Not Safe In Nigeria--Aderonke Apata Yells

Nigerian lady, Aderonke Apata, who claimed to be a homosexual, is currently having sleepless night as she hopes to convince the United Kingdom court over her asylum case.

Apata, 47, reveals the traumatic ordeal that she was asked to bring supporting documents for her judicial review for the court to look at.

“What evidence do we have to compile apart from letters from people? I knew we had a home video of ourselves, so I thought why not just put it in? I cannot afford to go back to my county where I will be tortured, so if I have to prove it with a sexual video, then I have to do it.”

With sadness and grief in her heart, Apata felt so disappointed that the situation has gone this far. “It’s such a desperate and precarious situation to be in because anything could happen to those pictures, those videos.”

Apata will present her petition at a meeting with the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration, attended by asylum-seekers and activists in Manchester, adding that she does not want to go back to her country where she knows she is not secured and stands to go to jail because of the law prohibiting same sex marriage.

This latest asylum claim was also rejected, despite the fact that Apata gave testimony that her ex-girlfriend in Nigeria was killed in a vigilante attack in 2012 and the country’s law now punishes homosexuality with up to 14 years’ imprisonment.

Apata’s story has rapidly garnered mass support, attracting more than 230,000 signatures.

The 34-year-old singer appeared to be distressed and depressed. She wore a grey hoodie, shredded denim shorts and classic white Converse sneakers, while Jay Z wore a v-neck tee and a grey sweater draped delicately over his shoulders.
