Surgeon Accidentally Removes Woman's Ovary Instead Of Appendix

Photo: British woman dies from medical error
Another case of terrible medical error dating back to October 2011 has been recently made public in England.

A 32-year-old pregnant woman was taken to Queen's Hospital outside of London to have her appendix removed but instead of this doctors took out her ovary.
Victim of the medical mix-up Maria De Jesus, who was 21 weeks pregnant with her 4th child, died 3 weeks later.
Now two doctors are in court in connection with the case: a trainee surgeon Dr. Yahya Al-Abed and the supervising surgeon Dr. Babatunde Coker (who was supposed to follow the surgery).
While the trainee doctor was removing what he thought was the appendix, the supervising doctor was reportedly having his lunch. Coker was never summoned, nor was he aware the surgery was taking place...
Until the mistake was uncovered in November, when the woman returned to the hospital suffering from severe pain.
It was another doctor who diagnosed her with appendicitis, again. She underwent surgery the next day.
However, De Jesus died on the OR table having earlier delivered a stillborn boy.
Cause of death: multiple organ failure due to septicemia.
Local media report that the hearing is likely to last a month. (Naij)

Man Goes on Rampage, Beheads Cousins, Injures Two Others in Akwa Ibom State (Photo)

A 35-year old man, Mr. Uwem Job, on Wednesday, beheaded two of his cousins, Mr. Akaninyene Job, 45; and Ezekiel Job, 36 in Ikot Nkim, Ibesikpo/Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. While his two other cousins – Itoro Job and Ekemini Job – narrowly escaped death as Uwem’s machete missed their throats, but cut through their hands.

According to Akaninyene’s younger brother, Mr. Ekemini Job, around 8.10am that fateful day, Uwem came to their house and told Akaninyene to come with him, saying that he had something to show him (Akaninyene).

He stated that as Akaninyene opened the curtain to see what Uwem had for him, he (Uwem) hit Akaninyene on the neck with a machete and severed his head from the body.
Ekemini said:

Uwem came to our house around 8am and asked Akaninyene to open the door and collect something he brought for him. Uwem had a 25-litre keg of fuel in his hand and had hid a machete that he brought with him.
People who saw Uwem thought the keg contained palm wine. As my brother opened the curtain to see Uwem, he  quickly brought out his machete and severed Akaninyene’s head from his body.”
An elder sister to Akaninyene, Mrs. Christian Ekong, said they were at the backyard when the shouts from Ekemini caught their attention.
“Ekemini saw Uwem killing Akaninyene and raised the alarm. As we rushed to the scene of the killing, I saw Uwem spilling the fuel on the flour. He then struck a match.
I raised the alarm, alerting everybody in the house to run. If not for the quick intervention of the youth of the area, the entire house would have been burnt down,” Ekong said.
Ezekiel was said to have been killed few minutes after Akaninyene had been beheaded. The distance between where Akaninyene lived and that of Ezekiel was said to be about 20 metres.
An eyewitness, Okon Eyo, told Punch's correspondent that Ezekiel was just waking up when Uwem called at his home and beheaded him.
He said:
“We heard shouts from Akaninyene compound, but we did not know what had happened. The next moment, we saw Uwem go straight into Ezekiel room, which was next to his (Uwem) and severe Ezekiel’s head.
Before we knew what had happened, Uwem had fled. We will apprehend him. We believe he is hiding around this area.”
When Punch's correspondent visited the area, both bodies were laid in front of their houses.
Akaninyene’s younger sister, Mrs. Comfort Okon, told him that the killer of her brother and Ezekiel came back from Lagos about two weeks ago.
“There had never been any quarrel in the family. When my mother was buried on February 22, all the family members, including Uwem, were there. They were the ones who perfected all the burial arrangement, I don’t know why this has happened,” she said.
Bodies of the deceased, Akaninyene and Ezekiel, were later taken to the mortuary in a police van.
Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, to confirm the story failed as he did not answer calls to his telephone or respond to text messages sent to the phone.

Mob in Lagos Beats Up, almost Lynches a Mad Woman they Suspect is a Ritualist (Photo)

A woman said to be mentally-challenged escaped being lynched by an angry mob on Wednesday after she was allegedly caught with N100,000, two ATM cards, two BlackBerry phones and an android phone. Incident occurred around Onabanjo Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos State, around 10am.

A resident, James Ogunkoya, told Punch that when some youths saw the woman with some money, they trailed her into a compound. The youths, who suspected her of being a ritual killer, pounced on her and beat her to a pulp.
Ogunkoya said:

Around 10am, I saw a crowd around an unkempt woman. Some of the youths picked up
sticks and were beating the woman. When I asked what was wrong, they said they found three phones and N100,000 with the her. They said the woman was not mad, but was only pretending to be mad so that she could easily perpetrate evil acts.”
Another resident said it was N50,000 that was found with the woman. The resident, who declined to identify himself, said the youths started suspecting her when she was overheard speaking like a normal person with somebody two days ago.
“Some guys were convinced that the woman was only pretending because they overheard her talking with a man on Monday night. They also wondered where a mad woman could have found the phones,” he added.
PUNCH Metro learnt that policemen attached to the Oworonshoki Police Division were alerted by the noise of the crowd gathered at the scene. A police team was said to have rescued the woman from the mob.

When Punch's correspondent visited the station, the woman was seen lying on a bench near the counter of the station. She had a burst lip while her arms were bleeding. And a policeman, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said attempts to verify the allegations against her were fruitless.
He said:
I have been asking the woman questions all day, but she has just been incoherent. She has even refused to tell us her name. At some point, she just started crying, so I let her sleep. I don’t even know if she is a mad woman.
Also, when she was arrested and we searched her, we did not find any money, phone or ATM cards on her. Nobody has come to write any statement here at the station.”
The General Secretary, Oworonshoki Youth Forum, Babajide Kabiawu, blamed the incident on the fear in the minds of people since the arrest of ritual killers in some South-West states. He said there was a need for the government to set up a special task force at the community level.
He said:
“I do not condone people taking the laws into their hands. However, it is a reflection of the level of insecurity coupled with the discovery of the activities of ritual killers in Oyo and Ogun states. The notorious cannibal, Clifford Oji, used to parade himself as a mad man as well. We have also seen cases in our neighborhood where supposed mad people kidnapped children. We want the government to support the community in setting up a task force that will evacuate mentally-challenged people.”

'Whitney Houston Family Nick's Not Welcome Here ... For ONE FULL YEAR

0416-nick-gordon-pat-houston_whitney-getty-4Whitney Houston's sister-in-law just got a year's worth of peace of mind ... a judge has just ordered Whitney's son-in-law Nick Gordon to stay clear of her for the next year.

We broke the story ... Pat Houston got a restraining order against Nick last month ... claiming he made threatening comments against her and posted ominous photos of guns on Twitter.

Now a judge has extended the order for 12 months, so Nick can't contact Pat or anyone in her immediate family ... he comes within 200 yards -- he goes to jail.

The bad blood is long-standing.  Family members tell us Nick resents Pat because she controls the purse strings of Whitney's estate ... and he thinks his wife Bobbi Kristina got screwed on her inheritance.

We reached out for comment ... so far, no response. (TMZ)

Abuja Bomb Blast: US Forensic Experts Arrive Abuja To Help Investigation

As the death toll from the bomb blast that hit the Nyanya motor park, Abuja on Monday increases, forensic investigators from the United States of America, yesterday arrived Nigeria to join local security operatives in conducting investigations.

 photo
It was gathered that the forensic investigators are from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
When journalists visited the scene, more than 100 heavily armed security agents were seen condoning off the area. The joint team of security agents included the Department of State Service (DSS), the police, army, civil defence and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
An unnamed army officer who confided in journalist said the forensic investigators arrived Abuja yesterday morning and were immediately conveyed to the scene of the carnage.
Few investigators from the United States arrived Abuja yesterday morning to join us in Nigeria to carry out a forensic investigation on what happened. Many of them are black, so you might not recognise them. It is a joint operation. That means all the security agencies are involved,” the army officer said.
The forensic investigators were seen picking up samples and other vital tools at the scene of the blast.
Just over the bridge, more than 500 onlookers who abandoned their work stormed the area to catch a glimpse of what the security agents were doing.

Motivational blogger Karyn Washington commits suicide, aged 22

Karyn Washington, the young beautiful lady who founded the blog For Brown Girls has committed suicide. Karyn killed herself at her home on April 8th. She was just 22.

Her friends say the popular blogger, who founded the blog three years ago to 'celebrate the beauty of dark skin while combatting colorism and promoting self love', suffered from depression and mental illness for many months before taking her life. Friends say the depression started after she lost her mum to cancer in 2013.

Karyn, who motivated thousands everyday through her blog, never shared her problems with her fans and readers, who were most shocked when news of her death hit headlines.

Blogger Ty Alexander wrote on his blog
"I wanna pout for a few minutes. I wanna bubble-snot cry. I wish someone had told Karyn Washington that she didn’t have to be strong. She didn’t have to hold the world’s glaring eyes on her shoulders. That asking for help was ok. No matter how you ask for it, it’s ok. People say all the time, You’re so strong! That’s so far from the truth. I AM WEAK!!! I think that’s what has gotten me through. I don’t judge myself for bursting into tears in the middle of a meeting. I don’t judge myself for eating the entire pint of butter pecan ice cream (although I just signed up for Crunch)! And I cannot judge myself for not being able to save Karyn."

Karyn spread words of hope to thousands of women everyday. Messages such as this one, which she shared last year while watching her mother deteriorate from cancer:

"I am empowered by other strong women and girls. Even by those who don’t necessarily know they are inspiring. Women who are doing what they can to uplift others around them and make a difference in their community motivate me to do the same. I think it is so important for women no matter what complexion, race, or religious background to be united in making sure our voices are heard — that we are being leaders and positive role models to the younger generation."
May her soul rest in peace, Amen
