Another LASU student killed, dumped at Ijesha Lagos

A 300 level Economics student of the Lagos State University (LASU) identified as Miss Rita Onwuli, has been murdered by unknown persons in Lagos.
Her lifeless body was found near a church at the Odo Olowu Street, Ijeshatedo, on the Apapa – Oshodi Expressway, Lagos.

According to report, Rita had left home on Tuesday and for three days, she was nowhere to be found. Her friends, colleagues and family members searched for her to no avail and on Thursday, they got the shock of their life as they were called to come and see dead body.
Rita’s bag which had some of her personal belongings and her phone was found by her side and that's how they were able to reach out to some people who disclosed her identity, and promised to come to the scene immediately.
A team of policemen from the Ijeshatedo Police Station which had responded to the call by members of the Neighbourhood Watch, had a hectic time dispersing passers-by from taking snap shots of the body and they also declined comment about the incident.
A member of the Neighbourhood Watch, Mr Badmus Azeez Adeniyi, who spoke on the incident said, "There is no clue yet on what could have happened to the lady. But it is like a case of murder that took place somewhere. Apparently, the perpetrators had waited for the cover of the dark to drop her corpse here. Nobody can say exactly when they did this but it surely cannot be anything around 10pm and 11pm last night because we still passed through this area when we were on surveillance watch last night."
When contacted, the LASU Public Relations Officer, Mr Sutton Kayode, said he was going to check if Onwuli was a student of the institution. (Naij)

Scientists discovered that the parts of the body that are being moved while dancing and a certain amount of natural co-ordination probably helps in attracting the opposite sex.

In a study conducted by a team at Northumbria University to establish which dance moves are the most appealing to the opposite sex, it was discovered that women prefer men who can move the top half of their body fluently, meaning those who copy the style of popstar Justin Timberlake are most likely to be considered attractive.
Women prefer men who dance with their upper body because it signals their strength.

On the other hand, women who dance using the bottom half of their bodies like singer Beyonce were the most appealing to men.
Men prefer woman who move their lower bodies as it could indicate fertility.

Dancers who waved their arms around, or kept them still next to their bodies, were considered ‘odd’ by both sexes.

Evolutionary biologists believe dancing serves both to attract the opposite sex and to ‘intimidate’ same-sex rivals.
Dr Nick Neave, senior lecturer in Psychology, who led the study, said: "To our knowledge, no previous studies have identified specific movement components that may influence perceived dance quality.
"The accuracy of the (camera) system has helped us identify the specific movements within men’s dance that influence women’s perceptions of dancing ability."

Britain revises its Abuja travel warning after attempted Boko Haram jail break -

Yesterday morning, 21 people were left dead after Boko Haram members on remand at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja tried to escape. Security officials were able to foil the attempted escape but in doing so, killed 18 Boko Haram members and three other detainees,. while two DSS operatives sustained serious injuries.

However, the sound of gunshots in the upmarket Asokoro neighbourhood where the DSS has its headquarters created confusion and panic in Abuja. In a swift response, the British Foreign Commonwealth Office immediately issued was in effect a revised travel alert, advised its citizens to be vigilant should they need to go to Asokoro or The Three Arms Zone in Abuja.

A high commission official said: “On the morning of March 30, there was an incident involving exchange of gunfire within a Nigerian government compound in the Asokoro area in Abuja. The incident was brought under control swiftly and the Nigerian government has now confirmed that the incident is over and has declared the area safe.

“We recommend that British citizens maintain heightened vigilance in Abuja, particularly after dark. Given today’s incident, we ask them to be especially vigilant should they need to go to Asokoro or The Three Arms Zone.”

Apparently, the detained terrorists over-powered the guards at the facility and shot several operatives in a daring attempt to stage an escape. According to one security source, one of the Boko Haram members was allowed access to the toilet without being leg-chained and on getting there, uprooted the toilet seat and attacked the operative who escorted him there with it.

This DSS operative was said to have collapsed, allowing the Boko Haram member to seize his gun of the operative and then open fire on the other guards and set some of his colleagues free. However, DSS operatives were later mobilised and a one hour shoot-out ensued between them and the terrorists before security was re-enforced, with soldiers later drafted in. (Nigerian Watch)

Pastor Kidnapped Baby In Akure, Demands Ransom From Parents

A Pastor and another person are currently in police detention after kidnapping a 24 month-old baby girl in Akure.

The baby girl was later rescued in Ughelli area of Delta State, Nigeria.
Pastor Okpara Emmanuel Chigozie, the founder of Believers Prayer Ministry in Orji area of Owerri, Imo State and 25-year-old Chinonye Anufor are currently in police detention.
A sum of N50m ransom was requested from the parents of the baby by the Pastor and his cohorts and have been negotiated downwards to N5million before the suspects were rounded up.
Saturday Vanguard gathered that the detectives trailed the fleeing suspects to Ughelli where a woman in whose custody the baby was kept by the pastor was arrested.
After the baby girl was kidnapped in Akure, the Ondo state capital, the Pastor and other suspects fled to Balyesa state.
The Police Image Maker Wole Ogodo told Saturday Vanguard exclusively that the baby was rescued from the suspected member of the kidnap gang late yesterday.
Ogodo added that the pastor kept the baby in the custody of the middle aged woman in Ughelli.
He pointed out that acting on a tip-off, the detectives stormed the hide out of the kidnappers where the woman and the baby were found. The Police spokesman said that the detectives after rescuing the baby returned to the state with the baby at about 1am on Saturday. It will be recalled that while parading the Pastor and other suspected criminals, the new Commissioner of Police Isaac Eke said the pastor was arrested in his apartment. Eke said detectives from the state CID in Akure after the complaint was lodged swung into action and arrested one 25-year- old Chinonye Anufor who led them to the apartment of the Pastor in Owerri.

BREAKING: Only N45 million released for deadly Immigration screening, as Comptroller General, Parradang, denies knowledge of recruitment

Despite raising at least N710 million from poor applicants, recruitment consultant, Drexel Limited, and interior ministry authorities released only N45 million for the conduct of the screening into the Nigeria Immigration Service, which ended in fatalities, a member of the supervisory board told senators Thursday.

At least 16 job seekers died in stampedes across Nigeria on March 15, sparking widespread outrage and calls for the removal of the Minister of Interior, Patrick Abba Moro, and Comptroller General of Immigration, David Parradang. The Secretary of the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services board, S. D. Tapgun, told the senate committee on interior investigating the exercise that 710,000 people registered for the test, according to figures provided by the consultant, Drexel Limited. The board had no independent means of knowing the exact figure, he said. Lawmakers heard how despite raising the huge amount, the board and the ministry still had no funds to conduct the exercise.
The secretary of the board, Mr. Tapgun, said funding was a serious challenge, and gave the impression it was the main reason the minister, Mr. Moro, refused suggestions that the exercise be staggered and conducted separately based on cadres. Mr. Tapgun said the board estimated the exercise to cost N201 million, but after collecting N710 million, the consultant, Drexel, only released N45 million for the exercise to be conducted. In a letter read at the hearing, the consultant had made it clear that by the terms of their agreement, it was the responsibility of the board or the ministry to fund the recruitment, as it was only contracted to provide online registration services. The N45 million released by the firm, was regarded merely as a discretionary contribution, a disclosure lawmakers said was one of the clearest signs the government board had lost control over a firm it claimed to have hired. Testimonies given yet at the hearing Thursday point to an exercise hijacked by the minister, Mr. Moro, who is yet to respond at the hearing. Save the secretary, other speakers said they were not duly informed of plans for the recruitment that turned deadly in the end. The Comptroller-General, Mr. Parradang, denied knowledge of the planning for the exercise and said his suggestions were brushed aside. Another member of the board made similar claim. In his first official comment since the disaster, Mr. Parradang said his first information about recruitment into an organization he heads, came from a newspaper advert. PREMIUM TIMES had reported exclusively about a letter of protest by Mr. Parradang after the newspaper publication. Speaking Thursday before the Senate committee, the immigration boss said he raised the letter after telephone conversations with all key members of the board, during which those contacted denied knowledge of the advert calling for applications. One member of the board, Mustapha Karim, who also testified at the hearing, also said he was not aware of the plans, neither was the recruitment ever discussed at any of the board’s meetings as should have been the case.The board member said he and other members of the board only knew of the plans after being shown a copy of the agreement for the recruitment between the interior ministry and Drexel Limited. Mr. Karim said the agreement was signed by the minister, Mr. Moro, without the knowledge of the board. The second signature, purportedly by the former secretary of the board, Mr. Attahiru, may have been forged, he said. Mr. Karim told lawmakers Mr. Attahiru had personally confirmed to him that he never signed the document. The Immigration boss, Mr. Parradang, said one of the most outstanding breaches of the exercise was the decision by the planners to take over the recruitment of both the senior and junior cadre, unlike past practices whereby the supervising board takes charge of the senior cadre, while Immigration Service recruits the junior cadre. The minister, Mr. Moro, is the chairman of the board. “For all my years in the service, no one had ever taken away from us the right to recruit the Cadre B officials. And that was why I protested very vehemently,” Mr. Parradang said. On why he did not complain about the anomalies, or initiate a process to abort the planned recruitment when it was clear the exercise did not follow the expected practice, Mr. Parradang said “It is very clear from my presentation that why we could not stop this process was because we were not the drivers of the process.” (Naij)
