CBN Governor, Emefiele’s policies bringing APC to disrepute – Tinubu Support Group

The South South Agenda for Tinubu/Shettima (SSAT) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to audit the accounts of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

It said the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele should be suspended from office to enable the board of the Bank, of which the Governor is Chairman, as well as the Financial Reporting Council, to look into the books of the Bank unhindered.

It claimed that the monetary policies of the Central Bank of Nigeria in recent times were bringing the ruling APC to disrepute.

In a press statement through their National Coordinator, Mr. Bitrus Nta Oliver, the group threatened to commence legal action against President Buhari and the Senate if they failed to do the needful.

It insisted that an independent audit of the bank will expose the damage Mr. Godwin Emefiele had allegedly done to the Bank and indeed the Nigerian economy.

“If we do not see any action by the President within the next 96 hours, we shall immediately launch a suit to compel the suspension of the Governor from office because as the Chairman of the Board of the bank, he cannot be a judge in his own case.

“So, he will have to step aside while the Board looks into the books alongside the Financial Reporting Council,” he stressed.

Bitrus further blamed the current economic woes of the country on Mr. Emefiele and his incompetence.

He said, “Removal of Emefiele immediately as the Governor of the CBN will help redeem the economy of the country and draw it back from the brink.

“He has abused his office by using the same to get involved in politics and investors do not have confidence in our monetary policy anymore”.

However, there have been several calls and criticism against the leadership of the Bank since the announcement of the decision of the Bank to redesign the N200, N500 and N1,000 banknotes, which will cease to be legal tender by the 31st of January, 2023.

Why we negotiate with kidnappers, bandits to get hostages freed sometimes – IGP Baba

Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has said security agencies tackling insecurity are sometimes forced to stoop low to negotiate with bandits or kidnappers in order to free hostages unhurt.

Justifying the claims, he said it would be an exercise in futility if terrorists who are armed abduct persons and the police go in search of them under captivity using extreme force.

Alkali Baba made the explanations against the backdrop of over 80 Chibok girls still in Boko Haram captivity, including 29 students of FGC Birni Yauri who have not been set free several years after their abduction.

The IGP made the disclosures on Thursday while featuring at the weekly briefings coordinated by the Presidential Media Team in Abuja.

His words, “You see, the issue of kidnapping is an issue that borders almost all the security agents, including the military, it is a crime that once it is committed, you have to thread very softly and with all sense of professionalism.

“If you do not rescue the person, safely, unhurt, you have not achieved anything and once somebody is in the captivity of an armed person, then you need to do a lot of things, it is not all about guns and other things.

“There are a lot of other things that can be done. We were able to rescue the whole of Forestry students in Kaduna through negotiation, we were able to rescue many others, which I can give you an example, for those that we are in contact with, there are things that we are doing, it is a new crime and requires new ways of approaching it and new ways of dousing it.

“Clearly it is under study. For instance, the issue of Train negotiators and so forth were not an issue before, but now we are looking into it and we are putting our personnel to undergo such training and courses. So, we will not say hope is lost. We are still on it”.

The IGP also made a stunning revelation, saying some of the Chibok girls who have been put into family way and were rescued while wandering in the bush, actually make moves to return to their captors.

He said, “The issue of Chibok girls you know they are coming out one after another and gradually. Sometimes they come out and say yes, we have come to see our parents and we want to go back.

“So maybe they have been assimilated or acclimatized with the situation and indoctrinated and had become part and parcel of those who have abducted them. But like as I’m saying, it is a continuous effort and even last month, you saw a Chibok girl coming out with two or three kids and said she only came to greet her parents and she wants to go back. So, we are still on it, there is hope”.

A disgruntled Ama and some of her friends took to social media to challenge the Ghana Bar Association’s decision.

She lamented that it was inappropriate and unjust for the GBA to suddenly prevent her from becoming a lawyer after she had passed all her exams.

2023 population census to gulp N532.7 billion – NPC boss

The Chairman of the National Population Commission, NPC, Alhaji Nasir Isa Kwarra has disclosed that it would cost the nation the sum of N532.7 billion to effectively conduct a census in 2023.

He gave the disclosure while defending the 2023 budget of the agency when he appeared before the Senate Committee on National Population and Identity Management on Wednesday in Abuja.

The NPC boss who appeared alongside his management team said the amount was purely for the conduct of the 2023 census which he said would be digitally done.

“Aside from the N10 billion budgetary proposal for the 2023 fiscal year earmarked for NPC, the sum of N532.795,604, 726 billion is estimated for the conduct of the 2023 Census,” he stated.

Amid a high level of insecurity with hard-to-reach terrains in some states across the country, the NPC boss maintained that the Commission was ready to re-write the history of census in Nigeria by ensuring credibility, accuracy and reliable head count.

“The proposed sum for the conduct of the 2023 census, covers post-enumeration survey and that the exercise will be a great departure from the past in terms of keying into the issue of climate change,” he said.

In the 2023 budgetary proposal for the agency, Kwarra said N1.05 billion was earmarked for capital expenditure, N655 million for overhead and N8.6 billion for personnel.

For the 2022 fiscal year, the NPC boss said a total of N206.85 billion was appropriated for the commission out of which N107.7 billion was earmarked for capital expenditure, N615 million for overhead and N7.8 billion for personnel cost.

However, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Sahabi Ya’u, told the NPC boss to furnish the committee with details of projects executed with the 2022 appropriation line by line and those proposed for the 2023 fiscal year.

The request by the NPC boss to decorate the Chairman and members of the committee as 2023 Census ambassadors at the beginning of the session was turned down.

Unlike Buhari, I’ll End Boko Haram Insurgency, Reduce Taxation, Unite Nigerians, Atiku Boasts

The former vice president also mocked the ruling All Progressives Congress, saying Nigerians should say “enough is enough of hunger, unemployment caused by the Buhari-led government.”

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has reiterated his commitment to fighting insecurity in Borno state and the entire country if voted into power in 2023

Atiku disclosed this on Wednesday while speaking at the PDP presidential campaign rally in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The former vice president also mocked the ruling All Progressives Congress, saying Nigerians should say “enough is enough of hunger, unemployment caused by the Buhari-led government.”

He said he was not impressed with President Muhammed Buhari’s handling of security in the country, especially regarding the protracted Boko Haram insurgency.

The PDP candidate vowed that his government will not only end insurgency and other security issues but also keep the nation more united.

He also promised to reduce taxation, and revamp the Lake Chad basin to boost agricultural farm produce in Borno state.

“When we arrived (in) Borno, we visited the Shehu of Borno who requested us five things and we have promised that if we get elected as President, we shall fulfill our promises,” Atiku said.

“In the Shehu of Borno's speech, he asked for three to four things and I, in my capacity as Zannah Santa of Borno, I've promised that if Nigerians elected me, I'll do them in Borno by God's grace.

“First, he said he wants us to revive the Chad Basin Authority. When I was working in Borno, it was working fully and provided employment opportunities. Secondly, he asked me to bring back the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

“You can't achieve anything without peace and I'm promising to restore peace because there's no reason why there should be security issues in Borno at a time like this.”

Kano TikTok skit makers to receive 40 lashes in public, sweep court premises and wash toilets for defaming Governor Ganduje - See Video

Kano TikTok skit makers to receive 40 lashes in public, sweep court premises and wash toilets for defaming Governor Ganduje

Kano State Magistrate Court presided over by Aminu Muhammad Gabari on Monday, November 7, 2022, ordered 40 lashes be administered on two skit makers, Mubarak Isa Muhammad (Uniquepikin) and Nazifi Muhammad Bala for defaming the character of Governor Ganduje on their Tiktok accounts.

The court also ordered the duo to sweep and wash the toilets of Nomansland Magistrates Court premises for 30 days.

“They will receive 20 lashes each, to be administered in the public. They should also sweep and wash the toilets of Justice Aloma Mukthar Court Complex in No-man’s-land,” the judge ruled.

The convicts had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of defamation and inciting public disturbance slammed against them.

The First Information Report indicated that the duo posted on their Tiktok account that Ganduje does not see a land without selling it and he sleep a lot.

Based on that, the prosecutor, Barrister Wada Ahmad Wada and Principal State Counsel, Kano State Ministry of Justice applied for a summary trial against the duo.

When the case resumed on Monday November 7, for judgement, Magistrate Gabari ordered the convicts to pay a fine of N10,000 each for defaming the character of Kano State Governor.

Magistrate Gabari also ordered them to pay another fine of N10,000 each for inciting public disturbance.

He then similarly administered non-custodial terms against the convicts.

Consequently, he ordered the convicts to make a video on social media tendering an apology to Ganduje.

The skit makers were taken to court after they were captured in a viral TikTok video calling out Ganduje

In the video, they referred to Ganduje as a “corrupt politician” who sold every available plot of land in the state.

"This is a chapter that is talking about Ganduje. And who is this Ganduje? He is a husband to an influential woman and a father to an Arabian. And he is also from Kano state. The qualities of this Ganduje are as follows: He is a governor that loves to sleep,” they said.

"But he has become a suspect in the eyes of the people of Kano. To say a few of his qualities and talents, whenever he sees a piece of land in Kano he is definitely going to take his share. To explain this further, it is either he makes it available for sale or sells it off completely, but in the end, something questionable must occur."
