Ebola: Wema Bank To ‘Reject’ Customers With High Fever

A branch of WEMA bank in Lagos
Following the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in Nigeria, many banks have introduced new measures to curtail the spread of dreaded disease

Wema Bank has introduced self-dispensing hand sanitisers, and body temperature scanners at all its branches in the country in a move aimed at curtailing the spread of Ebola, Premium Times reports.
The bank is also introducing protective gears for members of its staffs especially those who deal directly with customers.
In a notice to customers released Monday, the bank said henceforth all customers and visitors to any branch of the bank would be required to use the hand sanitisers and be scanned for symptoms of fever before being admitted into their banking halls.

“In the wake of the recent Ebola Virus Disease outbreak across West Africa, we are compelled to introduce the following preventive health and safety initiatives at all our business locations in order to ensure a safe banking environment for all customers and staff,” the notice read.
“All customers and visitors are required to use the hand sanitisers and also undergo a quick non-invasive body temperature scan before being allowed into our banking halls and business locations.
“In addition, some of our staff at the more sensitive desks will also be required to wear some protective gears while interacting with customers and other visitors during this period” the document added.
Premium Times further went ahead to make enquiries from experts if this was right or a form of discrimination and here’s what they were told;
The federal Ministry of Health said it was not informed of the move, considered by some as discriminatory.
A health campaign organization, Projekthope, said the new policy is discriminatory.
“We should all learn to do things right. The presence of Ebola symptoms does not necessarily mean transmission will take place,” said Steve Aborisade, who heads Ibadan-based Projekthope. “And even if we want to be hyper proactive it should be sensitive in ways that will not be discriminatory and which actually stops transmission which is our first purpose.”
However, a medical expert said the bank should go beyond screening and make adequate referral arrangements for customers who may be turned away due to their health.
“I don’t think we should see it in the light of a discriminatory policy, I think they are just trying to act on the side of caution,” said Osahon Enabulele, the immediate past president of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA.
“The end point should be to aid the referral of such an individual to the nearest health facility for appropriate treatment. And of course, I expect that they should have a medical unit in the bank to quickly evaluate clients that may have suspicious features to properly evaluate them and not just to turn them away,” Mr. Enabulele said.

TB Joshua Explains Why He Does Not Have Church Branches Everywhere

Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua has opened up on why his church does not have foreign branches despite his popularity abroad.

The cleric, who spoke on Sunday 24th August 2014 at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), stressed on the need for God’s character to be fully established before ministerial expansion.

“I would have loved to have branches all over the world because people want T.B. Joshua everywhere,” he told the congregation. “But it is not yet time because it will be too much for my character. When the load is too heavy for you, it will become a burden.
”He further added that he was not moved by pleas from people but rather relied on God’s instruction. “Not where they want me but where God wants me,” he emphasized, adding that he was not in a haste or hurry and would not jump ahead of God’s timing.
“If you run before God, you cannot run after God,” he continued, explaining that this had been the bane of many businessmen and pastors as their desire to expand superseded their level of character.
His views stand in stark contrast to the popular notion that the amount of branches a church has is indicative of its level of success.
“In a situation where you become so great without God’s character, it means the end is going to be bad,”

Joshua went on further to explain, reminding congregants of Jesus’ words in John 14:27 that the world too could provide wealth and fame although with conditions attached.
“When you see someone who is great without God’s character, don’t admire him – pray for him because the beginner is not the owner but the finisher… The beginning and middle are off-record; the end is what will put the record straight”.
The cleric stated that it was even better not to have fame and popularity than to achieve what would eventually end in calamity.
“Character is the one that carries whatever we become. If your wealth is bigger than your character, that wealth will be spending you, not you spending it.
”T.B. Joshua stated that one of the secrets of his ministerial success was not being driven by money, explaining that some worshippers were still under canopies in his church not because he lacked the financial capacity to expand but because he was waiting on God.
“There is money to build but money cannot dictate for me. We could expand this place (The SCOAN) and build the biggest church in the world but I allow the Source of money to tell me what to do, not the money itself.

”T.B. Joshua also bemoaned the way people complained about their problems as if they bore no responsibility for them, adding that their challenges were not a consequence of God leaving them but rather their choice to live contrary to His ways.
“God does not want you to suffer but you want to suffer,” he soberly stated. “God is always with you but you are not with Him.
”T.B. Joshua, who has been the center of several controversies especially within the fold of Nigerian Christendom, added that if not for his persecutors, he would have remained a street-preacher.
According to him, detractors motivated God to bestow more favour and mercy upon his ministry, adding that no billboard can be found advertising The SCOAN yet visitors flock from around the world
“If God has called you, the more they block your way, the more that trouble and temptation, the more God’s love is provoked… Each attempt to stop you asks for more evidence from God.
”The cleric concluded with some profound advice for Christians, calling on them to change their style of prayer. According to T.B. Joshua, prayers for blessing, healing and protection were redundant as God is fully aware of the challenges of His children and does not require reminding.
“You need to block the avenue satan is using to afflict you – your weaknesses,”T.B. Joshua counseled. “Your prayer should be against weaknesses.
”He further clarified that prayer alone was not enough, stating that genuine desire to desist from bad habits and weaknesses was also essential.
“Live the life of your prayer,” he told the congregation, citing an example that praying for God to help you stop smoking and then picking up a cigarette immediately was akin to hypocrisy. “God always leaves us to play our role before He comes to our rescue,” he concluded.

I will go back to Sierra Leone where I contracted the disease 'as soon as I'm better' : British Medic Ebola Patient at London hospital

Mr Pooley grew up in a close-knit family in an idyllic rural setting in the Suffolk village of Eyke
                                                            Mr Pooley

The British nurse struck down by ebola while working in West Africa has vowed to return to the disease-hit region as soon as he is better.
William Pooley contracted the deadly virus while working 18 hour days at a desperately understaffed hospital in Sierra Leone, where medics are battling to contain the outbreak.
He is now being treated on a London hospital ward after he was airlifted back to the UK by the RAF after catching ebola from the very victims he was trying to save.
But he has told friends in Africa he is sure he will beat the disease - and is determined to fly back to the region to save other victims when he recovers.

Gabriel Madiye, who worked alongside Mr Pooley at the Shepherd's Hospice in Freetown, was one of the last people to speak to the British nurse before he was flown home.
He told the Sun: 'He was very sure that once he was in England, the excellent medical care in Great Britain would help him recover in a matter of weeks and he would come back to us.'
Before contracting ebola, Mr Pooley, 29, had graphically depicted the horror in the African hospital where he had selflessly volunteered to help those stricken by the outbreak.

He was forced to make the painful decision to leave sufferers alone overnight after the other staff fled. It came after angry locals rioted outside the hospital in response to rumours that ebola was a ruse to steal sufferers' blood and harvest their organs.
'We gave the patients water and paracetamol and then we had to walk out,' he had said. 'Patients are dying the most horrible deaths. I'm expecting to find several corpses tomorrow morning.'
Mr Pooley was pictured in a white infection control suit at the hospital in Kenema, the third largest city in Sierra Leone and a hot-spot for ebola.

He remained positive when he was interviewed less than a fortnight ago, choosing to focus on the patients who had recovered.
'It's great seeing them walk away after some of them have been in a terrible state,' he told the Guardian newspaper.

But the British nurse also spoke of chronic staffing shortages, the excruciating pain of ebola sufferers, mothers watching their children die, and how patients had to lie next to corpses for hours because there were not enough staff to move the bodies.
'It's the easiest situation in the world to make a difference. I'm not particularly experienced or skilled, but I can do the job and I am actually helping,' he told Sierra Leone-based blogger Jo Dunlop.
Fellow volunteer Professor Robert Garry, of Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, praised Mr Pooley's dedication to his ebola patients.
He said: 'Will was working longer and harder than just about anyone out there. He was putting in 12 to 18-hour days.

We have been understaffed at the hospital. Nursing staff have been afraid to go in.'
Dr Oliver Johnson, who has also been helping ebola victims in Sierra Leone, said Mr Pooley was an 'extraordinary guy' who knew the risks involved but was prepared to take them for the sake of the patients and his colleagues.
Mr Pooley's family yesterday praised the doctors treating him at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, north London.
They said in a statement: 'We would like to express our thanks to all involved in bringing our son back to the UK.
'We have been astounded by the speed and way which the various international and UK government agencies have worked together to get Will home.

'Will is receiving excellent care and we could not ask for him to be in a better place. We would like to thank all our family and friends for their best wishes and ask everyone to remember those in other parts of the world suffering with Ebola who do not have access to the same healthcare facilities as Will.'

Blue Ivy Carter & Jay Z Watch Beyonce VMA Performance, Crush Divorce Rumors Forever

Blue Ivy Carter was not nominated for anything at Sunday's 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, but the toddler won Cutest Moment of the Night by far.
Beyonce and Jay Z's daughter stole the limelight away from her mom - quite a feat given Beyonce's VMA performance - as she watched from the audience.
She might have even won Most Adorable GIF in history with this:

Blue Ivy Dancing
Cameras often cut to the two-year-old as she sat on her dad's lap, dancing and singing along to the catchy music during the nearly 15-minute performance. Blue Ivy even showed off some of her her diva moves, some of which even surprised Jay Z, as she danced along to Bey's "Flawless" and "Drunk in Love."
When it was time for the pop star, 32, to accept her coveted Video Vanguard Award, she shared the happy moment with her family on the stage.

Still believe the Beyonce divorce rumors now? Anyone? We imagine the In Touch staff clamoring to write a story on their epic reconciliation as we speak.
Jay, 44, called his wife the "greatest living entertainer" in the world, and Blue - looking fashionably precious - clapped while exclaiming, "Yay, mommy!"
And then the three superstars all lived happily ever after...

The First Time I Met Genevieve Nnaji, I Hid In a Car: Mercy Johnson

The Nollywood Screen Goddess opened up to City people magazine on the first time she met Genny.

The first time I met her, my friend took me there. When we got to where she was, I became nervous. I told my friend “no let me hide in your boot.” And I did. I got into her boot. (laughs) Can you imagine I came to see her and when I got there I wanted to run back. I jumped into my friends boot. So, when she came out of the hotel, I could not see her, I could only hear her voice.

The 2nd time I saw her was on set. When she came down and I met her she said ahh! Mercy I like your movies and I started crying. I was in tears of joy. I said Aunty Genevieve, so you watch my movies....cont

She was sort of embarrassed. Before I met her, she had already known that there was somebody who was crazily insane about her. She was really nice to me, receptive. And even whenever we work together she will correct me and say that thing you did, you could have done it this way.

Usually, in life, you will know somebody, who is more than you. Give him or her that respect. You can’t fight a battle you can’t win. It does not make any sense. If somebody is much more than you, there is nothing as big as you admitting it, and hearing from that person. I didn’t come into the picture to compete with anybody. I didn’t come into the picture to rub shoulders or outshine anybody. I came to learn, do it well, make it and be there.

On stories of their rumored beef
I really don’t know. I love Genevieve a lot. Growing up I discovered myself on time, I got to know my potentials. I got to know my weaknesses and I respected them. So, I didn’t really look at anybody as a threat, because the field is big enough. It is so large. All you have to do is make your footprint matter and people will come. You don’t force the fans to like you. In my entire career nobody for me has been worth my distraction or was enough to be a competition for me. It is do your thing I do my thing. We have different physiques, different voices. Let the fans choose, who does it better. It is only those who don’t know the meaning of self-realization that will begin to see someone as a threat. I never did see anybody as a threat. I saw my seniors as a pathway for me to learn from, not as a threat. I didn’t come into the industry because I wanted to take over from them, because there is no movie I will do that will measure up to what they had done.

There is no acting I will act today that Genevieve has not acted. So, it was more like I want to learn from you, and I want to better myself for me, not because I want to edge you out. The industry is so large that only one person can’t occupy it. It is when you don’t understand who you are, when you have not realized self actualization, you don’t know who you are, that is when you begin to see people as a threat, or as a competitor. That came up at a point in my career. It came up and it even made me stronger and bigger. Nobody was actually worth my distraction, or strong enough to be a competition for me.

Class: Kimye's Baby, North West Has a Gold Toilet, Already Owns $1 MILLION in Jewelry!

If you thought Kim and Kanye buying a $20 million mansion was obnoxiously extravagant, you may want to stop reading here. The latest issue of Star magazine is filled with details about the many astonishing ways in which Mr. and Mrs. West spoilt their only daughter, North, and the whole thing is far more ridiculous than you could ever imagine.

The info comes from an unnamed source close to the couple who says Kim and Kanye "see Nori as an extension of themselves" and are "addicted to spoiling her."
The insider presumably provided the following details without bursting into laughter or tears. Good for her!
  • Remember the gold toilets at the Kimye wedding? Norri has a mini one of her own!
  • Nori has a six-figure handbag collection that includes a customized "mini-Berkin!"
  • Kanye has already shelled out over a mill to dress Norri in custom clothes from Givenchy, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton!
  • Highlights of North's $1 million dollar jewelry collection include a $75,000 pair of diamond earrings and ruby bracelet insured for $500,000!
  • Kanye has stipulated that North must only travel in Range Rovers, Bentleys, Porsches, and the like. He's been reportedly been heard to remark, "This girl is never riding in a Honda!"
  • And, of course, the source says Kim and Kanye, "Don't want [North] associating with people who aren't rich, famous or 'good enough' for her."
And that's where it goes from ridiculous to ridiculous and sad. Be horrible, elitist D-bags all you want, Kim and Kanye, don't pass your awful insecurities onto your daughter...at least until she's a teenager!
