Breaking: Africa Can Win The World Cup In Brazil - Keshi

Coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi believes one of five African representatives at the ongoing 2014 World Cup in Brazil could end up winning the football showpiece.

Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Algeria and Cote d'Ivoire are the five African countries in Brazil and all the teams are expected to face stiff competitions from the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Germany and others.
However, Keshi said his team’s chances should not be underestimated.
Asked how close he felt Africa was to winning the Cup for the first time, he did not hesitate: “Very close.
“Because they (the African sides) are good. As good as any other teams that are here. I think this tournament is an open tournament. We just have to do what we have to do,” he continued.

It could be recalled that Ghana’s Black Stars, Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and Teranga Lions of Senegal are the only African sides that have been able to make it to the quarter final of the Mundial.
Nigeria has twice, 1994 and 1998, reached the second round while Cameroon made it to the quarterfinals in 1990 as did Senegal in 2002.
When asked to compare the current Super Eagles with his class of 20 years ago, Keshi said: “This team is growing, it’s like a baby.
“This team is just a year and a half-old. The team of 1994 was almost five or six years old.
“In 1994, the spirit was very high, we didn’t care where the (opposing) team was coming from, we knew we are going to go out there and win the game. Here, we’re building that, we try to bring the same spirit.

“Once we get the spirit, trust me, it’s going to be two times as strong as 1994.”
Nigeria is scheduled to take on Iran at 8pm Nigerian time on Monday, 16 June, 2014.

Big Brother auditions in Accra

Some housemates of 2013 Big Brother Africa

The ninth edition of Africa’s biggest reality series Big Brother Africa kicks off in September and already fans are asking…who will the new housemates be? Who will find their names and their faces gracing newspapers? Who will become the subject of drive time radio and just who will find themselves trending on all social media platforms?
Unlike previous years, this year’s entry process is slightly different as potential housemates are invited to come in their numbers for auditions in their respective country venues.

Auditions will take place at Ghana – Accra (Holiday Inn Hotel Airport) on 5 and 6 July 2014
AfricaMagic has always been associated with unearthing, nurturing and recognising talent from around the continent; and Big Brother Africa is one of the shows that have become known for transforming ordinary citizens into stars.
“We are very grateful and remain pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming response that the show has been receiving over the years. We look forward to the selection of our potential housemates coming in large numbers to auditions at the specified venues and take that chance at being the next Big Brother star,” says M-Net Africa Regional Director (West Africa) Wangi Wa-Uzoukwu.
“The fact that the fans truly adore the show is all the motivation we need to keep it fresh and that is always made possible by the enthusiastic and fun-loving young Africans who will answer to Big Brother. We are raring to go and we know that this will definitely be another exciting season that is full of quality entertainment!” she adds.
Her sentiments are echoed by Endemol MD, Sivan Pillay who says, “We have been producing this series for M-Net for a number of seasons now and as partners, together we have seen this show grow to the phenomenon that it has become. We hope the season will be even better as we strive to improve on our offering season after season.
“We will not hold back on the quality and exciting unpredictability that has become synonymous with Big Brother Africa. Audiences and fans can expect yet another high quality production and of course, another group of fun-loving housemates who will keep you guessing on who will be left standing come day 91.”
All persons over the age of 21, who are citizens of one of the participating countries and have a valid passport, can enter Big Brother Africa 9.
If you are open-minded, bold and adventurous, that’s even better! Previous editions of Big Brother Africa have boasted huge cash prizes for winners and this it is no different as the prize money is USD 300 000.
Entries are open to the following 14 countries: Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Nigeria's Free National Emergency No Is 112 And It Works!

The Nigerian Television Authority-NTA made the announcement yesterday on twitter. Even I wasn't aware of the number before now. I tried it and it works. Please spread the word.

Nigerians, please pray! Parents of 'the kidnapped Sisters' cry out!

A relative, Mr. Amade Opaluwa, said the family had not left a stone unturned to make sure that the victims return home safe and sound, but added that the kidnappers seemed unwilling to negotiate the ransom.
Amade, who is an uncle to the abducted sisters, told PUNCH on Sunday that the kidnappers were becoming impatient and harsh in their discussions with the family.
He said, “The kidnappers have become very harsh lately in their conversations with the family. They are still insisting on the N150m ransom. Unfortunately, they do not allow us to talk to the girls. And also, we are not able to call them on the telephones, only they can call us.”

He called on Nigerians to intensify prayers on behalf of the family for the safe release of their daughters, adding that the family was also relying on God’s intervention.
“I use this opportunity to appeal to all Nigerians to help us with prayer. What we need is constant prayers for the safe release of our sisters. Everybody is getting increasingly worried,” Amade said.
The two sisters, Ejura and Unekwu Opaluwa, who are 23 and 19 years respectively, were kidnapped in the evening of Sunday, June 8.
The victims’ father, Samson, is a director of the Federal Ministry of Work.
The suspected gunmen had made away with the two ladies after they had raided the entire house and dispossessed the family of their valuables.
The attackers were said to have left with the two girls when they did not get as much money as they expected. The family had reported the case at the Life Camp Police Division in Abuja.
When contacted, the Abuja Police Public Relations Officer, Altine Daniel, said the police were still going on with their investigations.
“Like I told you, we are still working on it. And if there are any updates, we will let you know,” she said.

Rivers State Government Disclosed Duncan Mighty’s N50m Claim is false

Port Harcourt based artiste, Duncan Mighty, may be in for a big trouble following his allegations that his state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, is indebted to him to the tune of N50million. He made this claim recently in an open letter that went viral on the internet.

According to Duncan, the Rivers State governor owed him the said amount for a Celebrity Youth Endorsement Concert he was contracted to do in Port Harcourt, which eventually took place on the 30th of March, 2011. He said he was given 10 million naira through the then secretary to the state government, Senator Magnus Abe and that the governor personally promised to give him a balance of N50m.

The whole situation may have become embarrassing to the state Commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari, who disclosed that the allegations are false, noting that nothing of such existed.

The Commissioner challenged the media to investigate the artiste and verify when he was contracted; when it was executed and who contracted him?

"It is unfortunate when some people imagine that they have attained a status that enables them blackmail others, tell blatant lies and get away with it. Without joining issues with Duncan Mighty, I would suggest that you double check on his antecedents and his friendships,” the representative of the Rivers State government said.

'Election Gifts Can Be Termed As Bribery and Corruption'........Omotola Jalade

Sharing of gifts items at Election campaign is no longer news but now becoming a tradition to buy the hearts of citizens.

Is this to say the hearts of the citizens can be bought with just a gift? Where is our stand as citizens of Nigeria? This is not condemning any electoral campaign whatsoever, but trying to win the heart of a citizen with a bag of rice like the picture above. Or how best can we describe this?

Recently, people lined up to receive their bags of rice at different electoral campaigns of different parties’. Some who received the rice from both parties seem very happy and flaunted it everywhere. While some others still criticized that the rice PDP gave out was better than APC rice. Funny though.

Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde didn’t find this funny as she describes such act of distributing things at election campaigns, bribery and corruption.

Here is what she wrote on her twitter handle on seeing the way rice where been distributed to people. “Isn't sharing of things during elections by political parties, bribery and corruption/manipulation? Why is this not a crime under the law?” she wrote.
