Apple Buys Chinedu Echeruo’s ‘HopStop’ For A $1 Billion

Apple has acquired Chinedu Echeruo’s HopStop.com, The Wall Street Journal’s publication, AllThingsDigital reports.

Founded in 2005, HopStop.com makes mobile applications for both iOS and Android that covers over 300 cities and that helps people get directions or find nearby subway stations and bus stops.

HopStop has oft been compared to Israel’s Waze which was recently acquired by Google for $1 billion. The move is seen as Apple’s plan to bolster its map offering especially given Google’s recent acquisition of Waze.

Chinedu Echeruo, A serial entrepreneur who grew up in Eastern Nigeria and attended Kings College, Lagos. He attended Syracuse University and the Harvard Business School in the United States and founded HopStop.com after working for several years in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Leveraged Finance groups of J.P Morgan Chase where he was involved in a broad range of M&A, Financing and Private Equity transactions. He also worked at AM Investment Partners, a $500 million volatility-driven convertible bond arbitrage hedge fund.

He founded and raised nearly $8 million for his two U.S based internet companies; Hopstop.com and Tripology.com.

Tripology.com was acquired in 2010 by American travel and navigation information company, Rand McNally. He was named Black Enterprise Magazine’s Small Business Innovator of the year and listed in the magazine’s Top 40 under 40 and is currently a partner and head of the Principal Investing group at Constant Capital, a West Africa based investment bank.

Oh Yes!!!! Barack Obama Joins Twitter!!!

President Barack Obama is now on Twitter!

 Barack Obama Profile Pic
“Hello, Twitter! It’s Barack. Really! Six years in, they’re finally giving me my own account,” Obama wrote as his very first message.

The 53-year old's bio, meanwhile, reads as follows:
"Dad, husband, and 44th President of the United States. Tweets may be archived."

That may be accurate and everything, but Obama may want to show a bit more humor and originality if he wants to gain any kind of real following.

Former President of the United States Bill Clinton is also on Twitter and can perhaps offer Obama a few pointers, while 2016 hopeful Hillary Clinton also has an account.

Hillary's bio lists her as "hair icon" and a "pantsuit aficionado," making it clear Hillary may have lost to Obama in 2008, but she has him beaten so far in social media creativity.

Photos: Female Student Says She Sees Jim Iyke Marrying Her in Dream

Last week, the nollywood actor/bad boy was doing the regular thing everyone would do after meeting with who you consider your favourite governor in Nigeria. He posted a picture of himself with Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, with catchy captions to show how much he respects the governor for his wonderful achievements in his state.

His post was harmless but one of the comments he got in return must have stopped him in his tracks. It was from a lady.
 https://igcdn-photos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xaf1/t51.2885-15/11255343_833519923390861_1869600505_n.jpg
In a shocking post, the female student said:
“Jim I beg you in the name of God, stop getting married to me in my dreams. For more than three years now I have always seen you in my dreams, married to me. I have been praying every time about it but it always reoccurred. Even last night it happened again...

I am tired of this. If you are his PA show him this text message and if this is you, I beg you in the name of God, to do something about it.”

The comment definitely got attention of Potpourri who decided to seek the girl out who simply signed her name as Jackiify.

In a BBM chat with her later on, Potpourri found out that the girl is a Nigerian schooling in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She goes by the name Ify Jacob. The first thing that struck about her comment was that this could be a girl acting out her fantasy and laying it out in a dramatic way. Then I asked her if she had ever had any crush on Jim, many girls do.

“That is where the problem is” she claimed. “I never had a crush on him before but all of a sudden I started having dreams that I am married to him for more than three years now. You cannot understand because you are not Jim or a pastor. I don’t like it. It is disturbing to me” she cries out.

NOLLYWOOD ACTOR, IK OGBONNA AND I SHARE SAME MENTAL DISORDER, COLOMBIAN FIANCEE REVEALS

Many people thought Nollywood actor, IK Ogbonna and his Colombian fiancee were crazy when the duo hooked up off a couple of romantic exchanges over the Instagram. With barely anything to hold on to, the Colombian Sonia Lareinaa left her family and country to come to Nigeria to settle with her heartthrob  here. With open hands IK welcomed her. It is stuff made of crazy love.
“She’s an awesome person and we met off social media; I left a breakup and at that point in time I was really not thinking of getting into any relationship. A friend of mine pointed her instagram page to me and I wasn’t really interested in surfing the internet at that point in time, but then again, I had a second look at her page and I was liking her pictures and unconsciously she was liking my pictures and from there, we started talking and it was almost as if it was just meant to be.

It was just two people with like minds coming together with a lot of positive chemistry being built up and then before you know anything, it was like boom, it happened” IK recalled in a recent interview with Vanguard. No doubt the lovebirds share something in common and if what the Colombian shared on her Instagram page, a couple of days ago is anything to go by, it seems they share more than love. As she put it, “

IK Ogbonna and I share exactly the same mental disorder,we simply must stick to each other forever, no one else could possibly understand”,  she declared after what must have been a groovy night-out at the popular Quilox nightclub in Victoria Island last Sunday. They were in the company of a friend Ify Jones. Sonia was having such a good time and had all but praises for city of Lagos with various hashtags like, “#AintNoCityLikeLagosCity #LagosByNight”.

IK must have been tripping her so good she’s forgotten Bogota so fast!
She is seven months pregnant for IK.

We wish her safe delivery.......

Why a Man Was Forced to Sleep With a Corpse and Drink The Water Used to Wash It: See Photo

It was gathered that the incident, which happened at Isheri Magodo, a suburb of Lagos, was executed because before Ganiyu gave up the ghost in the hospital, he kept calling Bode’s name.
Recounting his ordeal, Bode, an indigene of Ekiti State, a mechanic, who specialized in fixing Japanese vehicles, said: “I knew the late Ganiyu and Wasiu in January, when I was looking for someone to fix my faulty Honda car.
“That was when Ganiyu introduced me to Wasiu to fix my car. After he fixed my car, I paid him N35,000. Since then, we have had no business except when our paths occasionally crossed and we exchange pleasantries.
“On Tuesday, Wasiu called me at about 6p.m., saying they need my help urgently. He said Ganiyu was in the hospital and that they needed money to purchase pints of blood and drips, which was about N19, 000.
“He pleaded with me to come. At about 7pm, without any idea that Ganiyu was dead, I drove my car to the junction of their street, called him on phone that he should come and collect N5,000, which was all that I had to assist Ganiyu’s treatment at that time.
“When he came to where I parked my vehicle, he said the hospital was nearby, so we walked towards where he said the hospital is located.
“As we walked, I began to notice some strange movement in the vicinity as bad boys filled the area, so I asked where exactly the hospital was. He said we are taking a short cut to the hospital.
‘’Eventually, the short cut led to a compound. Immediately we entered the compound, people began to ask me what I knew about Ganiyu’s death. I told them I knew nothing, but they did not believe me, and they began to beat me.
‘’When they were beating me, a Baale in the area interrogated me, told them to stop beating me and to hand me over to the police, or they might beat me to death and then have two corpses on their hands. But they refused.
“After beating me, they forced me to sleep on the floor in the same room where Ganiyu’s corpse was laid to prove that I had nothing to do with his death. While they were beating me, my phone and the money in my pocket got missing.
“When they discovered that I was still alive, they washed his corpse and forced me to drink the water. I refused but they almost killed me with another round of beating. When it was obvious that I had no option, I drank it.
“After I drank the water, someone who claimed that he knew me called the police. The police took me to divisional police station at Awoshika, before the case was transferred to Area F Command.
“I have nothing to do with Ganiyu’s death. How would I be responsible for his death when I had no problem with him? All I want is for government and Nigerians to come to my aid, and bring those who meted this inhumane treatment to me to justice.’’
In his defence, 33-year-old Wasiu Fadairo, the mechanic who lured Bode with the call that brought him to the house, said: “I am from Kwara State. The late Ganiyu is from my home town.
“On May 12, Ganiyu was stooling and vomiting blood, so we rushed him to a hospital located along Oluwora Road, Isheri in Magodo. He later died, calling a particular name— Bode.
“After he died, we took him home because none of his immediate family members or relatives was available. When we called them, they said they were coming, so we kept his corpse inside his room.
“That same day, neighbours and people living around were angry, alleging that the name Bode, which Ganiyu kept calling before he died, was responsible for his death. So they began to call Bode’s phone number.
“When Bode did not come, I called him with my phone and told him that Ganiyu was lying critically ill and needed blood and drips, and that we need his assistance.
“When he came, people began to question him concerning what he knew about Ganiyu’s death. Before he could say a word, they pounced on him and began to beat him. So I ran to call the police to come and rescue him.
“After police rescued him, they later went to where he parked his car and vandalized it. I was there when they were beating him, but I was not there when they forced him to lie beside the corpse and drink the water used to wash it.”
Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said: “Two friends went out for a drink and one of them, Ganiyu, took ill after the outing and started stooling.
“He was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, but died in the process. Angry friends and neighbours, suspecting the complicity of Bode David, descended on him and attempted to lynch him.
“He was, however, rescued by our policemen and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Ganiyu commenced at Isheri Division. But the case has been transferred to the Department of Criminal investigation, DCI, Yaba, for further investigation.”

Robber Implicates Man Returning From Prayer (Photo)

A robbery suspect, Ahmed Adekeye, arrested by the police in Lagos, has confessed that he lied against a man, Tunde Adekambi, who he had earlier claimed to be a member of his gang.

23-year-old Adekambi was arrested while he was returning from a morning prayer at a mosque in the Ajangbadi area of Lagos,Punch reports.

It was gathered that on Saturday, May 2, 2015, a gang of robbers stormed the area at about 1.30am and unleashed terror on the residents for about an hour.

Punch learnt that a vigilante group in the area confronted the gang, which had about six members, and arrested Adekeye. The other gang members reportedly escaped.

The following day, members of the vigilante group were said to have arrested Adekambi.

It was gathered that Adekeye told the vigilante group members that Adekambi was one of the gang members.

The duo was reportedly handed over to the police.

Adekeye also told the police at Ajangbadi that Adekambi was a gang member. The case was subsequently transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.

Adekeye from Isin, Kwara State, said he lied to the police about Adekambi’s involvement because he did not want to rot in jail alone.

He, however, begged Adekambi to forgive him for making him suffer in detention.

He said, “We are six in the gang, but I was the only one that was arrested on that day. Others ─ Lekan, Biodun, Aloma and two others; I don’t know their names ─ escaped. While in Ajangbadi, I lied to the police that Adekambi was an accomplice.
“Aloma, a cobbler in Suru Alaba, called me on the phone and asked me to meet him in the Ilogbo, Ajangbadi area. I met him and others at a hemp smoking joint.
“They brought three cutlasses and three wooden batons. I took one of the wooden batons.
“We went to Orisa Street, and stayed in an uncompleted building till about 1am. At about 1.30am, we went to our victim’s house. The man and his family cooperated with us, until we cut him with a cutlass. He then let out a scream which attracted people in the neighborhood.
“So, the vigilance members came and everybody fled. I was caught and handed over to the police.
“When they brought Tunde (Adekambi) later, I lied that he was a gang member. At SARS too, I initially insisted that Tunde was one of us because I did not want to be punished alone. But after a few days, I decided to tell the truth. So, I told the police that Tunde was innocent.
“I did not know why I implicated him. I knew the police would torture a suspected robber, but I did not want to go through it alone. Our usual operation is to use motorcycles to snatch peoples’ bags.”
Adekambi, who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, said he was shocked for being named as a member of the robbery gang.
He said, “On that fateful day, I had just finished prayer and was coming back home at about 7am when some people on a motorcycle stopped beside me. They were members of a vigilante group.
“They asked me what I was doing there and I explained that I was returning from the mosque. They did not believe me. They tore my shirt, calling me an armed robber. When we got to where Ahmed (Adekeye) was handcuffed, he told them that I was a member of the gang. That was the beginning of my ordeal.
“I was detained at the station for three days and transferred to SARS. I am still in shock, but I have forgiven him. I do not have an option.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident. He added that Adekambi had been released.

He said,“After investigation, we discovered that Adekambi was innocent, and the suspect did not know him from Adam

Gynecologist Accused of Leaving Phone Inside Patient's Belly

Does this story have a ring of truth?

You must decide. But first, please lie down while we examine together the lament of Hanan Mahmoud Abdul Karim.

She is a 36-year-old Jordanian woman who went to a private hospital on April 24 for a C-section.
As reported by Gulf News, she gave birth, but when she came home, her family claim they noticed that her abdomen was vibrating.

By this point you, like I, might already be rolling your eyes. However, the story goes that Karim's mother brought her back to the hospital, where she allegedly received no help.

So she took her to a public hospital in Amman, where they performed an X-ray. Karim's stomach must have flipped. For, after emergency surgery, a cell phone was allegedly removed.

Gulf News goes on to explain that this case so roiled the nation that it was discussed in the Jordanian parliament. One lawmaker reportedly declared: "In countries which show respect to their nations, and following such scandals, governments usually resign. The parliament should show responsibility and be on the level of the case."

I'd like to make the Jordanian parliament (if not Karim) feel better. The Washington Post reported last year that US surgeons leave something behind inside their patients once every 5,000 to 7,000 surgeries. For comparison, there are at least 50 million surgeries a year.

You do the math. I don't currently have the stomach for it.
Often, but not always, these are surgical items like sponges.
Still, one question about the Jordanian case affects my indigestion: where did the gynecologist think he'd left his cell phone? Don't you look everywhere and then eliminate places one by one? Might the mere thought of a surgical error have crossed his mind?
It's not known what sort of phone this was. However, if he'd had a phone tracer app like Find My iPhone, surely he'd have been able to locate the phone.
Or perhaps he did and hoped the battery ran out before anyone noticed.

Tinubu Commends Amaechi

tinubu amechiBola Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos and National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC on Thursday eulogized Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi calling him a ‘General in the Common sense revolution’.

Tinubu delivered the eulogy during the launch of Amaechi’s book, ‘Dynamics of Change: The Amaechi Years’.

Read Full statement by Tinubu below:
”In the course of the historic campaigns for the 2015 Presidential election I was emphatic that the election itself was a great opportunity to popularise and test the noble idea of a Common Sense Revolution in Nigeria. Soon enough we found in the resonance of the APC Change mantra with the electorate a confirmation that Nigeria needed a Common Sense Revolution that is non-violent.
”Indeed there is a publication with that title authored by me in which I argued that Nigeria was ripe for a change of leadership and Nigerians must act in a Common Sense and rational way in choosing their leaders. The results of the March Presidential elections and that of April have demonstrated clearly the desire by Nigerians for change.

”Elections over, both the leaders and citizens must brace up to meet the challenges required to built a better, more prosperous nation. Indeed, even as we subscribe to the tenets of Common Sense Revolution, we must retool ourselves the new leadership must embark on policies that will improve the general well being of the mass of our people.

”Permit me to recall here how I once attempted to encapsulate the idea of Common Sense Revolution: “…
”It is a positive one to rescue, repair and restructure the nation and its institutions in ways that further collective prosperity and well-being. The only violence that is to be done is to violence, injustice and poverty themselves. At its essence, a common sense revolution is a call to return to a level of decency in the relationship between government and the governed, between each one of us and his neighbor…” That was at commissioning of people-centred projects on March 23, 2015 in Kano under the leadership of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

”We are here today, because one of the generals in the Common Sense Revolution Army, Rotimi Amaechi is bold and willing to show the world what he has achieved in the task to chart the critical path to total political and economic emancipation of the people whose mandate he enjoyed for 8 years.
”In my view, our gathering to celebrate the landmark achievements of my brother, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, in Rivers State in the last eight years is also another justifiable celebration of idea of Common Sense Revolution for development. The publication of the book, Dynamics of Change: The Amaechi Years is a timely service to history. This occasion is all the more remarkable because of the huge challenges Amaechi has been facing especially in his second term from an extremely hostile federal government. His role as the chairman of the Governors’ Forum invariably brought him into a bitter collision with President Goodluck Jonathan.

”Governor Amaechi and most of the governors want a properly defined federalist relationship with the government at the centre. The President would have none of that as in the notable example of the management of the federation account. This is, therefore, another great opportunity to salute Amaechi’s rare courage of conviction and sense of purpose. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has every cause to be proud of him.

”You can, therefore, imagine how much gratified I feel at the immense intellectual efforts invested in the publication of Dynamics of Change: The Amaechi Years. I salute the editors and authors of essays in the book. It is thoughtful of them to document the legacy of Amaechi in Rivers state. The high quality schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, security and human capacity projects, among others, richly documented in the book are a testimony that social democratic ideas can indeed be implemented in this clime.
”It is our hope that the legacy of governance for genuine development that Amaechi is leaving behind in Rivers would inspire state governments to make the welfare and security of the people the focus of governance. It is important to empahasise that security here includes social security if the war against poverty must be won.

”The APC change agenda is anchored on the three Rs- Reform, Relief, Relief, and Recovery. It is the Tripod upon which Nigeria must operate in order to unleash her potentials.
”Rotimi will go on from here to continue to serve Nigeria in key positions. He will not be alone. He will share the company of many change agents and professionals who have cast their lots with the new political order under the Leadership President elect, General Muhammadu Buhari”.
