Ebola In Port Harcourt: WHO said there is Multiple High-Risk Opportunities For Transmission Of The Virus To Others.

The UN health body said the arrival of the virus in Port Harcourt, which is 435km east of Lagos, showed “multiple high-risk opportunities for transmission of the virus to others”.

The haemorrhagic fever first arrived in Nigeria when a Liberian finance ministry official died in Lagos on the 25th of July. He was taken from the city’s airport to a private hospital by two officials from the West African regional bloc Ecowas. One of the officials later died of the disease but the other evaded detection to travel to Port Harcourt, where he fell ill and was treated in secret at a city hotel room by medical doctor Ike Enemuo from 1-3 August.

‘Numerous contacts with the community’
The Ecowas official recovered but the WHO said Enemuo continued to treat patients at his private clinic and operated on at least two people, despite showing symptoms from 11 August of Ebola – of which he later died. “On 13 August, his symptoms worsened; he stayed at home and was hospitalised on 16 August,” the WHO said in an emailed statement.

“Prior to hospitalisation, the physician had numerous contacts with the community, as relatives and friends visited his home to celebrate the birth of a baby.

“Once hospitalised, he again had numerous contacts with the community, as members of his church visited to perform a healing ritual said to involve the laying on of hands.” Over the six days he spent in hospital
“the majority” of healthcare staff treated him while two doctors performed an abdominal scan at an ultrasound clinic the day before his death, the statement added. Multiple risk exposure

“Given these multiple high-risk exposure opportunities, the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Port Harcourt has the potential to grow larger and spread faster than the one in Lagos,” it added.

A total of 255 people were currently under surveillance in Port Harcourt for signs of Ebola, Nigeria’s Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu said on Wednesday.

An elderly woman who was a patient at the hospital where Enemuo was treated died from the disease, taking the number of victims in Nigeria to seven out of 18 confirmed cases. Enemuo’s wife – who is also a doctor – was in an isolation unit in Lagos, while his sister is under quarantine in Port Harcourt.

31 year old Nigerian dupes 75-year-old Dutch woman of €200,000

Michael-Adio-360x225

A 75-year-old female Dutch national, Jeanet De Jonge, has lost €200,000 (N40million)to a 31-year-old Nigerian, Michael Adio in a romance scam. It was gathered that Adio, who had been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, pretended to be an American citizen, making it easy for Jonge to fall for him. The EFCC, which described Adio as a confidence trickster, revealed that the man was an indigene of the Owu area of Ogun State.

Explaining how the suspect, perpetrated the act, the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said the victim and the suspect met on a dating site and started a relationship. Uwujaren said, “Adio met the victim on the ‘Net log’ dating site and pretended to be a 41-year-old American citizen working as a chef in a Nigerian restaurant and needed a wife. “The profile attracted Jeanet (Jonge) and, in no time, began sending him money through Western Union and Money Gram.” It was gathered that Adio had told his victim that he wanted to meet her, but needed funds to get documents and perfect his travel plans. However, trouble was said to have started when Jonge did not see her hubby after sending money to him for almost two years. Uwujaren said, “Investigations revealed that the suspect collected various sums under the pretext that he was going to use the money to perfect his travel plans and obtain the required documents that would enable him travel to Holland to join or visit Jeanet. “His inability or refusal to honour the invitation from Jeanet made her to be suspicious and prompted her to petition the EFCC.” Adio, in his statement to the EFCC, said, “She was sending me money monthly, ranging from $800 to $900 from June 2012 through Western Union Money transfer and Money Gram. “There was a time the Western Union blocked her from sending money to me in Nigeria. So, she requested that I should go to London to enable her send me money there. “I contacted a friend of mine in London, Osas Odiah, to receive the money and send to me here in Nigeria. “She first sent €2,000 to my friend’s account in London, and later to my Keystone bank account, which was actually a Forex Trade account. “We started using this account when we discovered that my friend was not remitting all the money sent by Jeanet (Jonge) to me.” Uwujaren said the commission was still following up on some lead, adding that Adio would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation was concluded.

Jolie and Shimizu
                           Jolie and Shimizu
I am quite sure that many of you didn’t know that Angelina Jolie was once in a lesbian releationship…in other words, Angelina is bi-sexual. Well, her ex-girlfriend Jenny Shimizu, a Japanese-American model, recently said ‘I do’ to her socialite girlfriend, Michelle Harper.

Jolie and Shimizu first met on the set of their 1996 film Foxfire. At the time, Jolie was married to her first husband Jonny Lee Miller. Angelina  told Girlfriends magazine then that the initial spark with Shimizu was very much palpable.
She said:
“I would probably have married Jenny Shimizu if I hadn’t seen my husband,” Jolie, now 39, told the mag in 1997. “I fell in love with her the first second I saw her.”
Shimizu and her new wife met at a 2012 party. Here’s what she told New York Times of meeting Harper:

“I didn’t believe it myself until I saw it. It’s like so many things about her. There are these misconceptions and generalizations that don’t fit this person who is full of spirit and down-to-earthiness.”
Angelina on the other hand, also got married recently to her actor sweetheart and father of her children, Brad Pitt.

Husband Catches Wife in the same Hotel he Took his Girlfriend To In Lagos!!! See Drama, Lol

There was serious drama in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos on Thursday night as a man who took another lady to a hotel to enjoy himself, came out from the hotel room only to see his own wife coming out from another room in the same hotel with his best friend.

When he spotted them, the visibly angry husband, identified as Kayode, was said to have shouted:

My own wife in a hotel with another man!”

At the first instance when Kayode saw his wife, Mrs. Funmilayo, he never envisaged that the man with her was his best friend, Mr Mufutau, but after a closer look, he noticed that the man was Mufutau and he slapped him twice before Mufutau retaliated. And serious fight broke out.
Funny enough, as both men were fighting themselves in public, Kayode's wife, Funmilayo, pounced on her husband's girlfriend and tore the lady's clothes for having the effrontery to date her husband...
The crazy fight came to an end when the Bar Man, Receptionist, and others customers intervened and they blamed both the married man and his wife for not being sincere and trustworthy to themselves.

According to Leadership, the Bar Man told Kayode that he was guilty of the same offense for bringing a lady, which they later discovered was also a married woman, to the hotel. The barman said that what occurred was a nemesis or law of distributional justice.

But before the fight ended, the women were said to have torn their clothes to shreds and left in shame.

How to cook Okra Soup!!!

okra soup

Okra Soup is one of the quickest and easiest Nigerian soups to prepare. Some argue that a lot of work goes to the cutting of the two vegetables used in preparing this recipe. Yes but once the vegetables are ready; it cooks in no time at all. It is one of the popular 'draw soups' enjoyed in almost every part of Nigeria. Okro is also globally known as lady fingers and is rich in Protein.

This soup is known as Miyan Kubewa in Hausa.
Ingredients
  • Okra: 250g
  • Red Palm Oil: 3 cooking spoons
  • Beef: Best cut
  • Shaki - Cow Tripe (Optional)
  • Fish: Iced Fish (Mackerel/Titus), Dry Fish, Stock Fish
  • Crayfish
  • Pepper and Salt to taste
  • Onions - Optional
  • Vegetable – Pumpkin leaves or Spinach
  • Seasoning – 3 Maggi/Knorr cubes
Before you cook Okra Soup
  1. Boil the stockfish for about 20 minutes and leave in the pot with the hot water to soak.
  2. Cut the okra fingers into tiny pieces. The tinier you cut the okra, the more it will draw. To achieve this, you need to make a few vertical cuts followed by horizontal cuts on the okra fingers.
  3. Grind the crayfish and the dry pepper.
  4. Wash the pumpkin leaves, if it is your choice of vegetable, and cut into tiny pieces.
Cooking Directions
  1. If you will use shaki (cow tripe) for the soup, wash and boil till it is done. Add water sparingly because this soup needs to be thick. Add the soaked stockfish and dry fish to the cooked shaki. The length of time it will take to cook shaki depends on the cooking appliance utilized. You can take a bite to confirm this.
  2. When you are happy that the shaki and stock fish are well-done, add the beef, onions and stock cubes and cook till done. Then add the iced fish and cook till done.
  3. Pour red palm oil in another pot and heat the pot to dissolve the oil if it is congealed. Add the diced okra and start frying to kick-start the drawing process, add some meat stock from time to time till you notice the okra start to draw. This process should take a maximum of 5 mins to avoid over-cooking the okra.
  4. Now add the vegetable and stir well. Add all the meat and fish, crayfish, pepper and salt to taste. Then stir well.
  5. Cover the cooking pot and leave to simmer and it is ready to be served.
Notes: Shaki, Meat, Dry Fish, Iced Fish (Mackerel/Titus) and Stock Fish must not all be used at the same time in preparing the okra soup recipe. If you can, by all means use all as they will add to the flavour. But if not, an okra soup prepared with only iced fish ((Mackerel/Titus) can equally taste good. So don't go and break the bank because of a pot of soup!
Onions is optional because while some people cannot bear the smell/taste of onions in okra soup, others are like "Okra soup without onions? No Way!"
So feel free to add and subtract ingredients but the minimum ingredients that make an okra soup are:
  • Okra (of course)
  • Palm Oil
  • Beef, Iced or Dry Fish
  • Crayfish
  • Pepper and Salt (to taste)
  • Vegetable
  • Seasoning
Pumpkin leaves are the best for okra soup but for those outside Nigeria, this may be hard to come by so you can use spinach. But make sure it is the washed and frozen one. This works better than the fresh and leafy spinach as far as the Okra Soup recipe is concerned.
Serve with Eba (Garri), Cassava Fufu, Semolina, Amala, Tuwo Shinkafa, or Pounded Yam.
