Official: Barcelona sign Vermaelen from Arsenal

Official: Barcelona sign Vermaelen from Arsenal
The Belgium international passed a medical earlier on Saturday and has now completed a move to the Catalan club for a fee of €19m

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has completed a €19 million move to Barcelona, the Catalan club confirmed on Saturday.

The centre-back agreed to join Luis Enrique's side late last week after rejecting the overtures of Manchester United in favour of a summer switch to Camp Nou. The Belgium international flew in to Barcelona on Saturday morning for his medical ahead of the transfer, which will cost the Catalans an initial €15m and an additional €4m in extras.

"FC Barcelona and Arsenal FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of the Belgian player, who will sign for the next five seasons," the club revealed on their website.

Arsenal also confirmed the deal on their official site, releasing a statement which read: "Thomas Vermaelen has agreed to join Barcelona in a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.

"Vermaelen passed his medical in Barcelona on Saturday. His transfer is subject to the completion of the normal regulatory process. Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Thomas for his contribution during his time at the club and wish him well for the future." The 28-year-old has been blighted by injuries over the last few seasons and was given a thorough, two-part examination by Barca at the Hospital de Barcelona and later at the Clinica de la Creu Blanca on Saturday morning.

However, the former Ajax player came through the tests without any problems and is the second centre-back to join the Catalan club this summer, after Jeremy Mathieu arrived from Valencia in a €20m deal last month.

The defender, who becomes the third Arsenal captain to join Barca in seven years (after Thierry Henry in 2007 and Cesc Fabregas in 2011), will be unveiled at Camp Nou on Sunday.

Miley Cyrus Pees, Passes Out on Instagram

Following a run of several racy photos - here is Miley Cyrus in her underwear!
Here is Miley Cyrus nude in bed! - Miley Cyrus has maybe, perhaps, conceivably finally gone too far.
The singer posted multiple pictures on Instagram Sunday of herself drinking and partying with friends, including a shot of her popping a squat and another of her seemingly passed out.
  • Miley Cyrus Peeing
  • Passed Out Miley Cyrus
Cyrus included the hashtag #whitetrashrager along with the images.
The 21-year old has 11.1 million Instagram followers and it's easy to understand why. You never know what you're gonna get when you check out her account on a weekly basis.
We hope to never see Miley peeing ever again, but hey. At least she isn't pimping out her sister again.

Name National Stadium after Okwaraji – Family

Sam Okwaraji

Twenty five years after he died playing for Nigeria at the National Stadium in Lagos, the family of Sam Okwaraji would wish the arena is named after the fallen football star.
A bust of Okwaraji at the entrance of the National Stadium Lagos is the only reminder of how Okwaraji at the age of 24 died on August 12, 1989, while playing for the Super Eagles in a 1990 World Cup qualifier against Angola. Okwaraji’s brother, Patrick Okwaraji, told AfricanFootball.com his family is disappointed the football star has yet to be immortalised by the country he died for.
“The Okwarajis will want the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, where Sam took his last breath, to be renamed after him,” Patrick Okwaraji said.
“This is not too much to do for a man who gave all to his country and died doing so.
“Okwaraji died while in active service for Nigeria, we are therefore calling on the authorities to immortalise Samuel Okwaraji, a man whose life and legacies have continued to inspire and motivate our people.
“Nigeria should learn and start to celebrate our true heroes so as to encourage, inspire and motivate our people.
“We may be wrong in blowing this trumpet ourselves, but what do you do in the face of a nation’s negligence This is a situation that has continuously affected the psyche of our sports persons generally and has supported the culture of lack of commitment and patriotism.”

NANS commends Fashola for reversing LASU fee

The leadership of the South-West Zone of the National Association of Nigerian Students has commended the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, for reverting the tuition of the Lagos State University to its original rate.

Fashola had increased the tuition from N25,000 to between N193,000 to N350,000, leading the students to go on mass protests.
It was reduced to between 34 to 60 per cent, but the students were dissatisfied before it was finally reduced to the original amount.
In a statement released on Monday, the Public Relations Officer of NANS South-West, Comrade Jeremiah Olatinwo, thanked the Lagos State Government for the reversal.

It read, “The leadership of NANS Zone D wishes to commend the Executive Governor of Lagos State and his team for their giant stride, largeheartedness and faithfulness to their promise by reverting to the old school fees structure of one of West Africa’s acclaimed citadel of learning, Lagos State University.”
Olatinwo added that this action would advance the frontiers of education and make education affordable to the common man. He further saluted Barr. Femi Falana and those who stood by the students during the period of struggle for the fee reduction.

According to him, “Our profound gratitude goes out to our fathers and friends who in the spirit of comradeship stood strongly by us in the face of the struggle for the future of the students of LASU.
“To the students who despite the odds and pain, endured the fight, we say Viva Aluta.”

On the insinuation in some quarters that Fashola reversed the fees for political reasons, Olatinwo noted that he did not know of this.
He said he was grateful that the governor reversed the fees regardless of whether or not he had a political reason for doing so.
“People are entitled to their different opinions. He (Fashola) might have done it for political reasons, that I don’t know.
“One thing I am happy for is that we were victorious in our struggle for our colleagues in LASU. Political reason or not, he has done well to have listened to the plight of the people,” he said.

Magic Words: 4 Phrases That Will Make Your Boss Love You

It’s probably been many years since someone reminded you to “say the magic words” to get what you wanted, but it turns out “please” and “thank you” aren’t the only phrases that can help you get ahead at work.

"Please” and “thank you” aren’t the only phrases that can help you get ahead at work.

Here are four things your boss would love to hear — but all too often doesn’t.

"How can I help you achieve your goals?"
“These words are music to a boss’s ears,” says career coach and author Aaron McDaniels. Asking the boss about his goals and offering assistance is never a bad idea. It shows you’re focusing on more than just yourself, your goals and your duties.
“If you concentrate on making others (especially your boss) look good, then people will take notice, since everyone wants someone on their team who aligns their personal goals with the mission of the team,” he adds.

“I saw this wasn’t done, so I did it.”
“Initiative is the single most valuable skill,” says Steve Langerud, a workplace consultant. “As a boss, it is easy to fall in love with employees who see the gaps and fill them.”
Your boss’ nightmare is hiring someone who needs her hand held through every single step of a project. If you see something that maybe needs to be fixed, ask. If you know it needs fixing, just do it.

“I agree...”
This one sounds a little like glad-handing, but it’s really not. If your boss floats an idea, find a way to agree with at least a portion of it or the underlying problem that’s up for discussion. If you can frame your remarks in a positive voice that “resonates enthusiasm, agreement and support,” the boss will appreciate that, says Sandra Lamb, author of “3000 Power Words and Phrases for Effective Performance Reviews.”
“Even when you don't think something is possible, or a good idea, state your response in a positive, enthusiastic tone. ‘We should certainly consider that.’ or ‘That's a great beginning to the process…’ will work,” says Lamb. If you ultimately disagree with the larger idea, framing at least some aspect of your boss’ concerns in a positive manner will help you get your point across and make him happy.

"I'd be happy to do that."
See also: “I’ll take the lead on that.” and “I’ll get right on it.”
These sentences “express a spirit of proactivity and a willingness to do what it takes to get the job done. A person with this type of approach voluntarily takes on responsibilities, follows up and follows through, is a pleasure to work with, and contributes to the boss' and the team's success,” says Todd Cherches, adjunct professor in HR at NYU and CEO of BigBlueGumball, a management and leadership development consulting firm.

Incorporate these statements into your office discourse, plus a sincere “thank you” when appropriate, and your boss won’t know how she lived without you.

Ladies and Gents: Pretty Mercy Johnson Has A Word For You (Must Read)

Mercy Johnson in a new interview has explained how she built the ‘Mercy Johnson Brand’ and how she deprived herself of a lot of things to get to where she is now. She says its hard work and you never just stop working. While my mates were buying Brazilian hair and designer bags, I never knew what they were. I just wanted to be at a movie location and work, she said.
''Success is hard, it’s never easy. It takes more than luck to make the right decisions, and the right choices. A lot of people have actually been acting before me, but they are just nowhere close. It’s not because I am better, its grace. Continue below.
But really success is hard. It takes a lot of hardwork. At the point when my mates were carrying designer bags, I didn’t know what designer bags were. At the point at which they were wearing Brazilian hair, I didn’t know what Brazilian hair was.
I was kind of laid back. I was a step behind or 2 steps behind, because I was working so hard. I didn’t take vacations; I didn’t have time for all of that. I just wanted to be on location, so I could sell what I had. I wanted people to see what I could do. So every point in time, I was busy. I was so excited to work at every time. So, it’s like success is hard.
You really have to work hard; you really have to sweat to achieve what you want. Its only when you set to achieve it, that’s when it lasts,'' she said.
